Describe Scandinavian style in one word!

Scandi might be the darling look of 2014, it's BIG. Although IKEA might've helped to give Scandinavian style a recent boost, the true icons are still Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto and Louis Poulsen.

How would you describe Scandi style in one word?

      As a Norwegian, I have been involved with design my entire life and I have been told my work is distinctly Scandinavian. It is not something I think about! But I would say my approach is to strive for elemental simplicity with natural materials and enormous amounts of natural light. In addition, I believe in the intrinsic value of craft and the beauty of patterns found in nature.

      I think Finne Architects above summed it up - warm and natural. I have relatives in Finland and their calm exteriors often hide genuine natural warmth and the most welcoming homes you can imagine. They also have a real love of Nature and natural things in the home reflect this. Most Finns and Swedes strive to get to a summer cottage by a lakeside or sea during the summer months, so they can live uncomplicated lives and discover whats important again, far from the clutter and chaos of city life.
