Need help for our kitchen!

We need help selecting both the design and color of backsplash and floor tile for our new kitchen.
As you'll see in the pictures, the cabinets are IKEA Adel Medium Brown with brushed nickel handles. The countertop is Colonial Gold granite, and the appliances are stainless and black glass.
We are looking for backsplash and floor tile that will compliment the Colonial Gold granite. Our goal is a create a somewhat Asian -- we think a Soft Japanese -- feel.
Many of the backsplash designs we've viewed have been too busy and take over the granite. Also, it's been difficult finding the right tile color to compliment the countertop as the Colonial gold has many colors in it from creamy biscuit and tans to flecks of rust, dark browns and black, none dominant.
As to the floor tile, again we don't want something too busy or bold that will take from the countertop or move from the Soft Japanese feel we're looking for. We prefer a slate look (perhaps porcelain) over a wood look. (The cabinets already bring much wood-feel.) Also nothing too light in color.
So help, help, help! We have hours toting around a chunk of the granite and a cabinet door, and then bring home hopeful tile samples only to find they're not quite the right match.
Any experience or suggestions as to material, design or color is greatly appreciated! (Did I mention that I'm a retired electrical contractor with no experience in design whatsoever? Help!!)

Commentaires (5)Bonjour! Is your ceiling unique to the kitchen or continues for another room? You can use the ceiling to add color If just the kitchen. A medium intensity color would warm up the space without making somber. You can also choose a wall as an accent, keeping the rest very pale. Tones of yellow would be nice. See the Benjamin color trends for 2016. A lot of whites accentuated with colors. One room has yellow, but you don't have to go so intense. Also see on houzz "clored" ceilings. You can also use our window frames to add contrast painting them a darker shade of gray or charcoal. It gives character, definition and class Sorry i dont have photos to demontrate at the moment (problem with iphone:( but you can always find on houzz) :) Hope this helps!... Commentaires (36)Microwave next to the table would solve the bad looks and the height issue. Normally upper cabinets can be about 48cm above countertop, but since it looks better to have them on the same height as the built-in hood, you'll need 60cm. But if you're 1.60m you could consider a free hanging hood and some upper cabinets next to it, otherwise all uppers would be too high for you and you'd only use the lower shelf. And even better: Buy an oven with microwave function! (already posted that I think) Oven with microwave is different than microwave with grill. I even have a 12 year old tiny Panasonic combi that makes perfect bread and pizza!... Voir plusCuisine 11 m2 avec ilot ?

I'm not trying to criticize, the space seems new, with quality materials and well-lit, but have you also noticed the other big white walls? and ceiling? Why just the wall with the mirror? You've got a majority of white, a good dose of black, some chrome / stainless steel details and an uninterrupted shiny pale wood floor. It's relatively astonishing that you have a white door and only one white window, but the other window is black? Everything is relativement anonymous, nice, but nothing too ground-breaking. Is this a rental or your own home? Are you sure that just some art on that one wall will make it cozy and beautiful? Have you thought about any window treatments? Store venetien? Rideaux? Store bateaux? Any type of rug under the dining table? A rug called Bolon, made of woven vinyl fibers, easily cleaned ant anti-allergy. Is the mirror not on the axis of the table on purpose? And why a dark wood? It adds to the "window types", a black one, a white one and the wooden mirror one... Some more information would be helpful. good luck, Lynn... Voir plus

il y a 9 ansDernière modification :il y a 9 ansI can't quite tell what the accent color is in your granite, but I agree that keeping it light and simple would be ideal. Plain stacked tile in the background shade in your granite would be nice, or possibly something like one of these:
