POLL: Pick your favourite staircase!

We've been seeing some really interesting staircases on Houzz recently!

From floating styles made from restored wood or glass, to parrot stairs which help to save space (and look pretty cool too).

The style of staircase you choose for your home will usually depend on space, cost factors and your interior decor - however we want to know which is your favourite style of all! No need for practicalities here, we just want to know which you would rather come home to everyday!

Vote below for your favourite or let us know which you prefer in the comments below!

I like all four shown but in order to choose it would very much depend on the style of the home itself. All the ones shown suit their surroundings but if I just ha dot choose one I think I'd go for the split level and the Grand being my least favourite

Hi. Depends on the house really. Love the grand staircase but in a smaller property I would love storage built in. For a modern home the floating one is really cool!
However if I had the space (and money) I would always go for a curly grand staircase :)

We get asked for floating staircases all the time, it depends on a number of factors as to whether this is feasible. This our latest work in progress...

    Hello,

We find that most of our clients prefer traditional staircases in their households, such as the one pictured here.

Floating stairs are ideal for cleaning and hovering the dust that normally gets caught in the ridges between the steps!! However I have a great aunty who comes often to stay, she is scared of heights and I sense that if we had a floating staircase it may turn her anxiety into fear. These stairs do look incredible but I am wondering how practical they are in a home which is dictated by 3 toddlers??

The Floating and Grand staircases look stunning and both make a marvellous focal point in the space though not a realistic option for the majority of home owners.

As with your pictures we find the wood and Paint combo very popular.

Here is a sweeping stairs finished with wall paneling on one side which we thought was nice, and also a stairs we have done which splits in two directions at the top which was another nice design feature.

It will very much depend on the period of the house as to what suits it best however the look can be updated with the type of floorcovering that is used on the staircase

Like this Split level, am designing one at present, only one stretch though. Mine will be wider than normal, made from a solid trunk of oak, drying out at moment. Have to design system to stop twist, have approached this with laser cut steel strengthening, which you can't see.

The floating staircases are called "cantilever" staircases, they generally require a structural wall because they are steel plates bolted to the wall and clad in whichever timber you like and most popular balustrade would be glass, so they will not suit all house types, the split level staircase, with the landings are easier to produce and can fit in most house types and are still very contemporary, I am also a fan or the curved staircases because I understand the work involved but i would suggest the curved staircase would be more suited to a traditional house type.

The floating staircase is quite the contemporary statement piece, especially combined with the lighting in the example photo provided. We're big fans of a variety of staircase styles so it was particularly difficult to pick a favourite! See below for a photo of a magnificent wrought iron staircase which accentuated the grandeur of a beautiful townhouse we recently renovated in Kensington.
