Really really really need help!
Ok so as the subject says, I REALLY need help because we are seriously stuck!! We’re building our kitchen and I thought we knew what we wanted, but when we left the cabinet designer yesterday I was feeling totally confused and stressed about colour choices....
We were supposed to have picked the kitchen bench top (caesarstone) and the cabinet colours there, as well as the bathroom vanities but I’ve asked for more time.
The colours I am ultimately aiming for are earthy tones (browns and creams) because I think we’ll paint the walls a nice very light brown -- but should I go light countertops and darker cabinets underneath or the other way around? And then I was thinking lighter brown wall cabinets..? And then I have to think about a splash back... arghhh just totally confused.
Any help at all would be most sincerely appreciated!! Even just an opinion. To give you an idea of the kitchen plan, I’ve attached a similar design below, except our floor will be large glossy creamy tiles.

Can you paint cement and ceramic tile?
Commentaires (2)Hi Pamela, Yes you can but note that it won't last forever because it is paint after all. However when you apply it the correct way, it can last for a few years. You could use Homax Tough Tile Tub & Sink Refinishing Kit (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Homax-Tough-as-Tile-One-Part-Brush-On-White-2106/202061380#) , which you can find at Home Depot for about $35 or so. I used it for the bath tub and tiles in the bathroom and love how it came out. Let's say that it is the next best solution if you want to change the look of your tiles on a budget. Just be aware that it is very toxic so you may want to wear gloves and a mask because the epoxy gives off some really nasty fumes. I’d even say, best to open the windows if possible. Having the right basics to work off are crucial so make sure to first and foremost clean your tile with the solution that is in the kit. Once the tiles are clean you can apply the epoxy paint with the brush that is in the kit. Don’t worry about the brush strokes, as they will even out eventually. You will need to apply more than one coat but make sure the first one is dry before applying the second one. It takes a few hours for the first one to dry. Two coats were sufficient to cover my tile and provide a great looking finish but if you want to apply more (depending on the tiles’ existing color) you can. Note that you can also paint the grout in between. On the box it says that it is completely dry after a few days but I’d say one week to be safe. Commentaires (2)I see your point, It does look ugly :) Since its a rental apartment, do you have the authorization to remove it ? Because unfortunately, you can't put down vinyle over lino, it will not work (and its not because of the uneven floor). You can remove the lino and put another one, less ugly. It can be nice actually :) http://designmag.fr/design-dinterieur/lino-sol.html You are speaking about sticker, its quite cheap, why not trying and see if it fits with an uneven floor ? Although Im not sure that it will look pretty. Last solution, you can paint the lino, it will not last forever but it could be nice. Ask for expert advice to by the appropriate painting pots.... Commentaires (36)Microwave next to the table would solve the bad looks and the height issue. Normally upper cabinets can be about 48cm above countertop, but since it looks better to have them on the same height as the built-in hood, you'll need 60cm. But if you're 1.60m you could consider a free hanging hood and some upper cabinets next to it, otherwise all uppers would be too high for you and you'd only use the lower shelf. And even better: Buy an oven with microwave function! (already posted that I think) Oven with microwave is different than microwave with grill. I even have a 12 year old tiny Panasonic combi that makes perfect bread and pizza!... Voir plus

il y a 7 ansWe photograph houses everyday and the kitchen is the soul of the house. I believe that each room should flow from one to the next telling a story. I am a big fan of earthy colours. Having different textures brought in can be very useful to help break it all up . We have lots of different kitchens we have shot that you may find helpful.

il y a 7 ansHi Louise - I had exactly the same problem recently and for advice from here too!! I really didn't want a white kitchen and I also love earthy neutral tones - it took me 6 months (yes - 6 months!!) to settle on colours as we have a timber floor and I didn't want it to clash - ended up going with Laminex Sorrel on the base units side of our galley kitchen and Fossil in a riven (textured) finish on the side with full height cabinets. It's Smartstone Naxos benchtop. We absolutely love it - some people may find it dark (photos taken at night so no light coming thru window!!) but we love the look and find it has soul and warmth :) I've attached a photo before the splash back was installed - can attach another Friday after they've finished installing the splash back. I think yours would like good having a lighter wood textured finish one side and the fossil the other as you have a light floor... Just my opinion!!!

il y a 7 ansDohraime - Yes those are our tiles :) Would have liked wood but that would have blown the budget. I agree! I think I might go with Wild Rice, however I am also considering Shitake (below) - what would be your choice?
Arcke - Thanks for your advice! I've taken that on board and will stick to the same caesarstone benchtops. The floors are similar to the tiles below:
