New floor plan: The original footprint included the wet room (left) and the vanity area (center). The water closet (right) used to be part of a large walk-in closet and has a pocket door for privacy. This new portion of the bathroom measures 39 inches by 69 inches. The door into the bathroom is located opposite the vanity (center bottom) and the towel rack is located to the right of the door.
I'm doing two wall toilets in my new build -- using Durivit. Duravit has a rimless flush toilet and they have a new coating (Wonder Gliss) ... both really work. They are a bit more expensive vs traditional .. but I love not having the toilet on the floor. The install is about the same the tank and bowel are around $600.
Wall-hung space saver. For tight spaces where every inch counts, Stephens has a wall-hung favorite. “Code requires 21 inches of clearance in front of a toilet, so its short length — 21 1/16 inches versus round front at 26 inches or elongated at 28 to 30 inches — can make the difference between having a legal, functional powder room or not,” she says. “It also has a cool modern look.” The tank is accessible for repairs through the flush panel on the wall.
We planned for a half height wall beside the toilet, and added shampoo niches in the half wall to hide all the products in the shower. A cabinet over the toilet was custom built to house the toilet paper, and angled to follow the slope of the ceiling. Custom magazine rack was added beside the toilet and painted out to match the walls.
Water closets. The minimum space requirements for a water closet are 30 inches (76 centimeters) in width where it is centered in the space, and 24 inches (61 centimeters) of clear space in front of the fixture. It’s advisable to make the width a minimum of 36 inches (92 centimeters) and the length of the space in which the fixture rests at least 60 inches (152 centimeters). If your budget and space allow, you might want the water closet to be its own separate room, a setup especially popular in the past three decades. This room should be a minimum of 36 inches wide (92 centimeters) and 60 inches (152 centimeters) in length. For luxurious accommodations, a width of 42 to 48 inches (107 to 122 centimeters) and a length of 66 to 72 inches (168 to 183 centimeters) will provide a spacious and comfortable setting.
