This GE Profile UltraFast Combo, a full-size combination washer and dryer with ventless heat pump technology, is one example. Introduced at KBIS last year, the bestselling machine will have a new over-the-air software update later this year called Pet Hair Remover. In this mode, the machine will use air to separate the hair from the clothes and collect it in a filter before the wash cycle begins.
“We did a wall of custom cabinetry specifically for sports gear,” she says. “They wanted a spot for things to dry after going through the wash, so we made a cabinet with a metal screen door detail and rollout screen trays for the gear to be laid out on. Everything can be neatly tucked away while drying.”
This streamlined, galley-style Australian laundry room in a home built by D Pearce Constructions has built-in front loaders raised on deep built-in cabinet drawers. There’s a drying rod in the tiled sink alcove and, for longer clothing items, a simple wooden wall shelf with a rod attached underneath.
Black-and-white checkerboard tile flooring, vertical shiplap walls, Carrara marble countertops and a barn light add country charm to this Dutchess County, New York, laundry room in a classic Greek Revival home renovated by Crisp Architects. A tiled dog-washing station and a wide farmhouse sink are practical features for country living.
This Salt Lake City laundry room has all the functional elements you could wish for — a sink for hand-washing, a drying rod, elevated front-loading machines, lots of storage and countertop folding space. But designer Rachel Hutchens of Maven Home Interiors took the room to the next level with an island that provides extra storage and work surface. The drawers store wrapping paper and craft supplies. The other side has open storage for a rolling laundry cart and cubbies for baskets.
Pros also highly recommend adding custom drying drawers or cabinets. Designer Emily Pinney of Pinney Designs in Boston added custom drying drawers with mesh bottoms to this remodeled laundry room. “So many items need to be dried flat and not go in a dryer,” Pinney says. “These drawers allow space for that. And by stacking these shelves and building them into the design, they’re not taking up precious floor space with free-standing drying racks.”
The LG Studio Styler steam closet doesn’t require plumbing. It’s designed to fit into a walk-in closet or laundry room, and now has increased capacity for up to five hangers, so you can refresh and deodorize more delicates and clothes between washings. It also helps sanitize items such as outerwear, pillows and stuffed animals and reduces allergens.
