Albert, Carol & Conrad Kitchen
Sink style and how it fits mid century style
The ides of where the microwave, toaster oven are.
Plate shelf
I like the hint of color on the tiles. And the white cabinets against the dark floor
The island is interesting but larger than we could probably do. Also the single open glass no pain door I really like
butcher block is interesting concept. But what I love about this is the cut out above the stove. I love the idea of having olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic -- all ingredients I use every day be accessible
Lighting above the island.
I want a coffee bar concept in the kitchen. I was always thinking this could go on the west wall in the corner. We make coffee every day and then we Rinse out the pot and founds and leave it out on the counter to dry. Having this in a special out of the way place is key. So I also like the idea of a small small sink here. The storage would accommodate travel mugs, coffee mugs, tea, coffee, etc.
This is a layout of a kitchen that is almost the same size as ours.
Work station. We have a challenge in the for now the boys use a computer in the kitchen. Which we like. But it won't always be that way. They will eventually use their rooms. So the work station needs to be transitional.
hiding the charging station! This seems to be a trend in remodels and Jane has put this concept to good use.
computer station against the buffet
Local - Conrad doesn't mind the multiple levels of the counter top.
Corner! Conrad says cool, but I'm not adding $2K to the budget for them!
The way you can see all the utensils - Conrad says "Brilliant!"
Shallow pantry
Flat cabinetry - and color
I like the "chunky" sink for the bathroom - maybe that should be a design element that is carried throughout?
Conrad like the pod counter to right of fridge (for the coffee bar)
Likes one piece of marble as back splash on wall. Coffee nook could be the lift up cupboard to right of toaster oven.
Recessed ceiling.
Conrad loves floating shelves - Carol thinks they get too dirty and are hard to clean.
Likes cantilevered piece on the island and is multi use. Glass doors on cabinets are nice.
long drawers and tall cabinets
Love the cantilever design on island. Lots of nice things about this whole remodle and the uniformity.
Conrad says this is one of the most attractive islands he's come across. He wishes it had a cantilevered overhang though.
Nice example of contrasting colors without being outrageously bold.
The walnut cabinets are pretty interesting and seem very "mid century" modern. The backsplash is cool but fells very now and would not have a long style life
The whole house concept
Nice look. Clean, sleek. We like flat look and feel cabinetry. Conrad says he likes the idea of having the entire wall tiled (rather than just a 6" backsplash) because it allows you more use of color or design and ties the cupboards with the counter cabinetry better.
I love the fact that they used bright color for the backsplash since it's a white white white kitchen. Also like the plain cabinetry. I would agree but maybe not so bright.
If we went with an all white contemporary kitchen - I like the idea of the backsplash tile going up to the cabinets. Also this kitchen has a LOT of lighting and I want canned - our ceiling is just too low
Conrad REALLY LIKES these flat paneled cabinets without pulls. If we go in this direction I wonder again about the backsplash going up to cabinets for some texture and contrast.
I like this contractors' work.
The cabinets are really interesting
The extension on this peninsula of shelving does answer a question of what do we do about the current "planter" shelving we will need to remove? the blond wood is pretty with recessed lighting above box beam. Conrad says the planter could be replaced by a relatively inexpensive geometric bookcase.
We both like the way there is a shelf for the microwave and not a full cabinet.
The pull out is under the Sink
