Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room let the light pour in, and transformed the kitchen into an entertaining delight with seating/dining spaces at both ends.
The breeze colored island stone backsplash tile (Pental Surfaces) is low maintenance and long-wearing, and pairs perfectly against the stained cherry contemporary cabinetry (Decor Cabinets). Quartz countertops were installed on the surround (Caesarstone) and island (a charcoal color with a suede finish was selected for the island to cut down on glare - Siletsone by Cosentino). Chilewich woven fabric applied to the back of the island adds durability and interest to a high-traffic area. The elevated, locally sourced Madrone bar (Sustainable NW Woods) at the end of the island—under a stunning "ribbon" pendant (Elan Lighting)—is a perfect spot to sip Sauvignon.

Plain & PoshThis young family wanted to update their kitchen and loved getting away to the coast. We tried to bring a little of the coast to their suburban Chicago home. The statement pantry doors with antique mirror add a wonderful element to the space. The large island gives the family a wonderful space to hang out, The custom "hutch' area is actual full of hidden outlets to allow for all of the electronics a place to charge.
Warm brass details and the stunning tile complete the area.
The Cleary CompanyCustom storage options designed for new cabinetry to increase function of workspaces. Lemans pullout makes great use of "blind corner" in base cabinets. Deep and wide drawers used to store cookware. The expanded original kitchen footprint by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room. Cramped kitchen was closed off to rest of home with only two narrow entryways. New layout provides more countertop workspace with the addition of a peninsula. Soffits were removed to provide full height cabinets for additional storage. Natural light floods the new open concept layout.
Rebecca Reynolds Design -New Canaan KitchensA complete makeover of a tired 1990s mahogany kitchen in a stately Greenwich back country manor.
We couldn't change the windows in this project due to exterior restrictions but the fix was clear.
We transformed the entire space of the kitchen and adjoining grand family room space by removing the dark cabinetry and painting over all the mahogany millwork in the entire space. The adjoining family walls with a trapezoidal vaulted ceiling needed some definition to ground the room. We added painted paneled walls 2/3rds of the way up to entire family room perimeter and reworked the entire fireplace wall with new surround, new stone and custom cabinetry around it with room for an 85" TV.
The end wall in the family room had floor to ceiling gorgeous windows and Millowrk details. Once everything installed, painted and furnished the entire space became connected and cohesive as the central living area in the home.
Rande Leaman Interior DesignA vibrant blue island is the centerpiece of this white kitchen. The backsplash picks up on the color with a blue subway tile and dramatic quartz countertops. Beautiful matte brass lanterns from Serena & Lily accent the island. The appliances are all Thermador.
Mosaik Design & RemodelingThis outdated kitchen came with flowered wallpaper, narrow connections to Entry and Dining Room, outdated cabinetry and poor workflow. By opening up the ceiling to expose existing beams, widening both entrys and adding taller, angled windows, light now steams into this bright and cheery Mid Century Modern kitchen. The custom Pratt & Larson turquoise tiles add so much interest and tie into the new custom painted blue door. The walnut wood base cabinets add a warm, natural element. A cozy seating area for TV watching, reading and coffee looks out to the new clear cedar fence and landscape.
