BGI DesignAn airy and light feeling inhabits this kitchen from the white walls to the white cabinets to the bamboo countertop and to the contemporary glass pendant lighting. Glass subway tile serves as the backsplash with an accent of organic leaf shaped glass tile over the cooktop. The island is a two part system that has one stationary piece closes to the window shown here and a movable piece running parallel to the dining room on the left. The movable piece may be moved around for different uses or a breakfast table can take its place instead. LED lighting is placed under the cabinets at the toe kick for a night light effect. White leather counter stools are housed under the island for convenient seating.

Bright inviting Kitchen great room

Taylor Made Custom Contracting Inc.We removed the existing column to free up space between the kitchen and breakfast area. All new stainless steel appliances were chosen and the electric range was replaced by a large six-burner gas oven. To add more storage space, 30” cabinets were replaced by 42” cabinets in “white porcelain”. Translucent glass cabinets with interior lights were an interesting accent without exposing the inside. The enlarged island in a “shadow pewter” now sits four people. It houses many outlets, recycling, and a drawer-style microwave. Black and white granite in “Alaska white” bridges the color scheme between the two cabinetry colors. Elegant accessories such as large cylinder pendants, black farm sink, and opaque glass wall tile created a uniquely coordinated style.
In addition to the main kitchen area, our clients wanted to enlarge their existing pantry. Keeping with the new color scheme, the pantry is now double its size and holds dry goods on the right side and a bar area with floating shelves on the left. A rolling black barn door was installed to be creative and functional.

Houseplay Renovations LLCFor this project, the Houseplay team converted a single level, three bedroom/three bathroom apartment into a duplex.
Thanks to the conversion, the family we worked with enjoys a new great room, including an expanded kitchen, two new skylights, and a laundry closet on main floor. They also have a new master bedroom suite on the lower level, including a bathroom, walk-in closet, and small office.
We fitted new crown mouldings into the great room, and also added new baseboards, door mouldings, and raised-panel doors throughout the apartment. New flooring was installed in the kitchen to match the rest of the rooms before we refinished the hardwood floors throughout the duplex.
Our team installed new recessed and feature lighting throughout the space, and we brought in a new tankless water heater along with all-new plumbing for the laundry area and master bathroom. The gorgeous glass tile in kitchen and master shower is our handiwork, as is the fresh coat of paint on all of the walls, ceilings, mouldings, and doors throughout the apartment.

The 4-seasons porch is where all guests desire to stay – welcomed by the peaceful wooded surroundings and blue hues of the great lake.
31E DesignsStraight edge subway tile and a neutral color scheme was not going to cut it in this home. From top to bottom, each material has its own characteristics that play nicely together with simple cabinets that tie it altogether.
The speckled counters flow into the playful backsplash with a wood-trimmed window that seems to add emphasis to the pattern of the tile.
The contrast of the busy backsplash against the solid, honey cabinets brightens the space and gives it the character my clients felt it was missing.
Next was to remedy the ample amount of open space in the center and little, uninterrupted countertop.
When I first met with my clients, we sat at a small table off to the side of the kitchen. A table that was clearly used on the regular (the homework table), which meant, desperately needed.

Jordan Design-Build GroupBeyond aesthetic updates, we had to address several issues that the homeowners found frustrating about their old kitchen. The biggest problem was a lack of flow. To create better circulation, we relocated the doorway to the formal dining room and replaced a peninsula with an island. The previous location of the refrigerator was inconvenient; it offered no adjacent counter space and was separated from other work areas by the main traffic path through the kitchen. The new kitchen layout has a more functional work triangle and provides better access to the informal dining space. Relocating a laundry room door allowed us to create a large walk-in pantry; replacing a swinging door with a sliding barn door assures that the walking path remains clear.
We paired white Shaker cabinets with Fusion Gray quartzite countertops and selected a complementary gray for the island, completing the design with a custom cherry island top. New hardwood flooring ties the home’s foyer, kitchen and formal/informal dining areas together. Custom millwork in the adjacent dining room adds the finishing touch.
