UserLarge open floor plan in basement with full built-in bar, fireplace, game room and seating for all sorts of activities. Cabinetry at the bar provided by Brookhaven Cabinetry manufactured by Wood-Mode Cabinetry. Cabinetry is constructed from maple wood and finished in an opaque finish. Glass front cabinetry includes reeded glass for privacy. Bar is over 14 feet long and wrapped in wainscot panels. Although not shown, the interior of the bar includes several undercounter appliances: refrigerator, dishwasher drawer, microwave drawer and refrigerator drawers; all, except the microwave, have decorative wood panels.
Vicente Burin Architects The kitchen was left as open as possible so that the view of the water could be accessible from the family room through the kitchen and out of the large bow window in the dining room. This kitchen’s clean contemporary lines stand in contrast to the homes otherwise traditional framework.

ClosaBespokeThis bespoke, traditional country style kitchen is set in a listed building in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside. The room features original exposed oak beams which were beautifully restored and inspired the oak cabinet interiors and circular breakfast bar. The solid wood cabinetry has been hand painted in an off white, complimenting the natural limestone flooring.

While the flow of the kitchen worked for the family, the focus was on updating the look and feel. The old cabinets were replaced with new shaker-style custom cabinets painted in a soothing grey, to compliment the new white-washed, brushed oak floor. Taj Mahal granite counter tops replaced the old dark ones. The refrigerator was replaced with a wider 48” Sub-Zero. The built-in pantry in the kitchen was replaced, with pull-out shelving specific to the family’s food storage needs. A 48” dual fuel Wolf range replaced the outdated cooktop and oven. The tones of the new slate backsplash and slate and metal mosaic on the face of the island created cohesion between the pine hues of the remaining original ceiling and the new white-washed floor. Task and under bar lighting also brightened the space. The kitchen is finished out with a unique concrete apron sink. Capitalizing on the natural light from the existing skylight and glass doors, the upgraded finishes in the kitchen and living area brightened the space and gave it an up-to-date feel. |

Sheila Rich Interiors, LLCThe alcove and walls without stone are faux finished with four successively lighter layers of plaster, allowing each of the shades to bleed through to create weathered walls and a texture in harmony with the stone. The tiles on the alcove wall are enhanced with embossed leaves, adding a subtle, natural texture and a horizontal rhythm to this focal point.
A custom daybed is upholstered in a wide striped tone-on-tone ecru linen, adding a subtle vertical effect. Colorful pillows add a touch of whimsy and surprise.

Kitchen EncountersThis basement bar has an island with a unique lighting feature. The radius stainless steel back of the island is backlit behind a sheet of white plexiglass. It also has white tile surrounding the remaining back and side that looks like sugar cubes.

An ammonia stained storage shelf with a rustic iron pole attached for convenient utensil hanging. A minimal wall air vent here flows directly outside to ventilate the kitchen, designed to avoid a larger extractor dominating the compact space. A Burgundy modern Everhot electric range cooker provides a colour boost as well as controllable kitchen heat and cooking throughout the year. The Island with tongue and groove panels is painted in Paper & Paints Pure Grey. The rest of the cabinetry is painted in Paper and Paint Egyptian Grey.
Kathy Marshall DesignOnce apon a time I was a scary basement located in a congested section of Cambridge MA. My clients and I set out to create a new space inspired by France that could also double as a guest room when needed. Painting the existing wood joists and adding bead board in between the joists and painting any exposed pipes white celebrates the ceiling rather than trying to hide it keeps the much needed ceiling height. Italian furniture, books and antique rug gives this once basement a very European well travelled feel.

UserThis tv room and library space is a cosy corner in this large thatched cottage. The butter soft leather sofas are teamed with an upholstered ottoman and comfortable armchair. All surrounding a log burner and brick fireplace. The curtains are in James Hare Silk fabric with Bradley Collection curtain poles. The painted cabinetry is bespoke, and contains a special area for log storage. The tv is placed on an extending bracket within the cabinetry within the recess by the fireplace for comfortable viewing. The oak flooring is covered by a traditional rug for a cosy feel. The cushions are covered in Emily Bond country motif fabrics of foxes and hares.
