This room as an unused dining room. This couple loves to entertain so we designed the room to be dramatic to look at, and allow for movable seating, and of course, a very sexy functional custom bar.

During our 1st meeting in the homeowners' dinette we were crowded by a number of craft projects. We also learned that Mr. Homeowner regularly practiced playing the trumpet. But, there was nowhere his music could be insulated from the rest of the home. Enter the idea for a hobby room. Now, the concept was complete. Instead of one single-use room there were four very functional spaces that would greatly reduce the homes clutter. But, the fun was just beginning. The hobby room features two remote-controlled Velux skylights with blinds, a very contemporary ceiling fan and light and custom-built furnace hidden in an eave behind a wall and maple doors. Not shown is a very funky Kohler cobalt lav with black wrought iron fixtures. The lav was so difficult to manufacture it took Kohler five months to get the color right. At least that is what they told us. But, decorating took on a whole new dimension. Mrs. Homeowner also likes red. So, the cathedral ceiling became cranberry. We suggested an interesting sheet vinyl floor. But, Mr. Homeowner started surfing the internet and found a company in Florence, Alabama that laser cuts 1/8" solid color commercial vinyl tile. All we had to do was design it in CAD (computer aided design) and they would cut the individual pieces. Every different colored tile in this photo is an individual piece. The grid is a 1/4" wide strip of a metallic silver colored vinyl. All the pieces were laid with mastic as a puzzle. This room was an interesting project all by itself. But, it really put the homeowners' signature on this signature space. And, that is what we are all about. The signature in Signature Spaces is that of the homeowner. We are just the interpreters. This small family room has a contemporary vibe with bright, vibrant colors. To not overwhelm the tiny space, a neutral, gray sectional and walls ground the design. Vibrant colors—fuchsia, lime-green and plum—adorn the art piece, throw pillows and cornice. A vivid green, faux crocodile storage ottoman completes the design.
