Greg's story into landscaping begins at the young age of nine. It was summer break and Greg and his six brothers began begging their parents for a Nintendo system. Unbeknownst to the boys, Harry and Linda Black instead purchased lawn care equipment and upon their return home informed Greg and his brothers they would have to earn the Nintendo system themselves. Greg and his brothers did earn a Nintendo system and later, Greg earned a Bachelor of Science in Plant Sciences and Landscape Systems from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville while maintaining residential landscapes and creating outdoor living and recreational spaces around the Knoxville area. After working for a large landscaping firm in Palm Beach, FL and managing over 1 million dollars of commercial property, Greg later moved to Memphis. Once in Memphis and instantly captivated by the city’s potential to be increasingly beautiful with proper care, Greg founded Curb Appeal Memphis in 2012. Armed with a passion for landscape design and a desire to beautify a city, one yard at a time, Greg and his team began transforming exterior living spaces from downtown to Collierville, and everywhere in between. Due to the business' expansion outside of Memphis, the company changed its' name from Curb Appeal Memphis to Mid-South Curb Appeal, LLC in 2016 to reflect the business' expanding client base. Greg has been featured as an expert in lawn and plant care in multiple media outlets, including: Local Memphis Live (Channel 24) Live at Nine (WREG News Channel 3) The Marybeth Conley Radio Show (KWAM 990) Greg's passion for and knowledge of plants and landscaping systems make him a desirable choice for speaking engagements. Besides being a featured speaker on the Marybeth Conley Radio Show, Greg has been a guest speaker at several Memphis area garden clubs.

Greg and his team did an exceptional job on our home. We had a sprinkler system put in for our lawn and flower beds, complete new landscaping on three beds with spot lighting and he took care of a drainage issue on the side of our house which two different contractors did not fix over the years. Mid-South Curb Appeal will not leave your property until you are 100% satisfied with their work. His team cleaned up every day after they were through working and left our property meticulous. By far, Greg was the most responsive landscaper we received estimates from. Workmanship and Design was great. He even came out after a huge rainstorm to add a pipe to a gutter that was washing away the fresh mulch!

I called (with very little notice). They came (with a very polite crew of three). They cleaned (the roof, washed the gutters, pressure washed the chimney, mowed and trimmed the yard, and yes, cleaned the curb and gutter, within three hours).

Mid South Curb Appeal did a drainage project in my backyard, and I am so pleased with the work they did. I actually had water coming in my house, and they installed box drains to alleviate the problem. They also put rocks and sod in to complete the landscape, and I am very happy with the outcome. Greg Black, and his workers, are wonderful to work with, and they always were here when they said they would be. Excellent job, Mid South Curb Appeal!

My husband, Bruce, and I are very happy with the work done by Mid-South Curb Appeal (MSCA) in our yard last month. In addition to a general Spring clean-up, MSCA removed two tree stumps and replanted with arborvitae trees, removed and replanted a front flower bed, fixed drainage by extending a flower bed and installing water loving plants, and installed and repaired stone borders in different areas of the yard. The stone work, in particular, in the front of the house was superb. In addition, we enjoyed working with Greg Black, the owner. Greg was prompt for all appointments and very responsive to our needs.

I could not be happier with the design and installation by Greg Black, owner of Mid-South Curb Appeal. Passersby have already complimented my yard's new look. Greg began by solving the mud and grading problems in my backyard. He designed a curving border of antique bricks cemented in to the ground and planted Sweetspire, bushes appropriate to a really shady area. His crew transplanted older azaleas from the front yard to the back, added mondo grass in areas frequented by my dogs, and will replace sod next week when it becomes available. My overgrown front yard is now trim and balanced. Freeze-proof gardenias have replaced the overgrown azaleas next to my house. A second antique brick border encloses lorapetalum and groundcover. Lenten roses surround my Japanese Maple. Newer azaleas on the north side of the property will bloom twice and provide a carpet of pink and lavender flowers. I also plan to hire Mid-South Curb Appeal to take care of my irrigation and lawn care needs.

Greg added a custom fire pit and seating wall, along with stone walkways to the front of my house. I had a vague idea of what I wanted but needed creative input. Another bidder was not helpful with ideas and expected me to spec the job out in detail. Greg immediately came up with some innovative ideas that I never would have thought of. The workmanship was great but his vision for the potential of this space was invaluable. He really is an artist when it comes to outdoor spaces.

Greg and his team along with Freddie, landscaped our backyard in 2014 and we absolutely loved it. They came back out in 2015 to landscape our front flower bed which turned out nice, as well. He is one of the few professionals that will follow up with quotes and get the job done. Several came out and never responded.

Greg and his team did a great job on my yard. The two main things that stand out are the quality of my grass and the improved drainage system. They put in all new Zoysia for me which looks great year-round and requires little to no maintenance. They also put in new directional drainage that keeps the water from drowning my yard and plants. We've had 12 inches of rain this month in Memphis, but thanks to Mid-South Curb Appeal, my yard looks impeccable.
