My wife and I wanted to build the house of our dreams - our "last house" until we get sent to an assisted living home. AJK was recommended to us by multiple friends and business sources. We contracted with them in 2015 - and I can only say that AJK and his team of tremendous subs truly built the house of our dreams. The attention to detail was impeccable; the quality of the materials - top notch; and most importantly - the subs he hired to put our dream home together were 1st class in every respect. He had a supervisor at our home for almost 2 years - making daily visits - to ensure the project was "on time" - "on budget" . When we requested changes - AJK would put together a change order - and would have everything in writing for us to consider. I have always been told that building a house can strain a marriage because of challenges. But whoever experienced that problem obviously didn't have AJK to build their home. Scott and his team were always checking in with us - asking if we wanted a different shade for the staining of the wood; a different pattern for the tile work in the bathrooms. And anytime an issue arose during construction, he or his supervisor was there to answer questions or fix the problem. My wife and I actually built a home in Richmond Va back in 1997 and we swore at that time - never again because of all the problems everyone hears about in building a home. I can only thank the people that convinced me to sign up with AJK. I recommend him without reservation.

We purchased our house new from Appalachian Construction/A.J. Kirkegaard Contractors 12 years ago. The primary reason that we bought this house over others, was that the quality of the construction and finishes that were so far superior to any of the other newly constructed homes in the area that were available. And after living in tour home for 12 years, we have never had any reason to change our high opinion on the quality of A.J Kirkegaard and Scott in particular. In addition, we have called Scott on many occasions to ask a question about how something in the house works, or who to contact to have some home project done.
