Craftsman. Quality. Passion. Charles is a rare find in a world of slap dash construction. I’ve had the pleasure to call him into projects where we needed something more than the ordinary, projects that require someone that will collaborate and deliver. Charles cares about the projects he’s involved with, he’s interested, engaged (and engaging) and wants to build something that everyone is delighted with. There are so many things I admire about Charles, but when it comes to his craft, I so appreciate that he thinks about it, selects the best materials, factors in weather and wear and sets about fabricating a product that not only looks great, he crafts it with such care and consideration that you can’t help but stand back and simply admire the end result. All of this from someone with a natural easy nature, an intelligent happy soul that you wish you could spend more time with. It should come as no surprise that I’m always looking for the next project where Charles’s skills are needed once more!

Charles (Charlie) March built two trellises for our house as part of a landscaping project. The two trellises frame windows in the front of our house and along a driveway, and are now supporting growing vines. Charlie started with a rough sketch of the trellises, listened to what we wanted, then fleshed out and constructed the design in cedar. He refined the design to provide more shade on hot sunny days, and added some very nice details like the curved braces to help frame and strengthen the window openings. I was amazed at his craftsmanship, woodworking skills, and attention to detail. I highly recommend his work.

If you are looking for a true craftsman we highly recommend Charles. He built our family a beautiful custom arbor, which is the focal point of our garden courtyard, as well as several custom planters. Charles matched the exterior woodwork of our 1930’s Tudor home and meticulously cut each piece of wood to hand craft the pieces he created. He uses the best of materials and has the tools to create high quality outdoor structures. Charles is responsible, honest and reliable, as well as fairly priced. It was a pleasure to have him work at our home. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for quality craftsmanship. He is truly a rare find.

Charles is absolutely amazing. He built a a covered patio, a pergola, and a swing for our new house (lots of pictures in his portfolio). He is a true craftsman. But what is more important is that he is SO easy to work with: always smiling, fun to talk to, and straight up honest. Always does what he says he is going to do. His prices were extremely fair. I would recommend Charles to anyone looking for any kind of quality woodwork done quickly and at a fair price by someone who cares!

Last August Charlie March built a new pergola for us. Working with him was a pleasure from the start. After looking at the site and talking to us, he quickly turned out the initial drawings, and we worked out the details over email. We wanted the pergola to have curved supporting beams, which was challenging, as 4x6’s normally used as beams are rigid. Charlie proposed a solution that worked: to start with thin wood strips, and to glue them together with marine epoxy. Note that all this planning and discussion was done *before* he bid for the job. He calculated the cost of labour and the materials based on the design. He proposed to use the Western Red Cedar, a beautiful, high-quality material. Charlie carefully protected the work site, and had all materials and tools neatly organized. During the entire project he was constantly communicating with us. If we were away from home, and Charlie needed our input, he would send us pictures of the feature in question. The result was truly amazing. The pergola is a centrepiece of our back yard, and everybody who sees it is impressed. It is artistic, unusual, and beautiful. The quality is top-notch. You cannot see a single piece of hardware - all brackets, bolts, and nails are artfully hidden. Please see the pictures illustrating the progress of the project. We were so much impressed with Charlie's taste, craftsmanship, and attitude, that we immediately asked him to do one more project for us. We had a poorly installed front gate that we wanted to mend. Making the gate look right was tricky, because the stucco opening was uneven and out of plumb. Charlie set things right, he made the opening look even, hiding the imperfections with custom made casings. He adjusted the hardware, hid the bolts holding the gate posts, and even added nice tops to the posts. We feel very fortunate that Charlie has found time to do these projects for us. Charlie designed and built a fabulous gazebo for us. He is professional, reliable and extremely honest and creative. I would hire him for any job I had.

We hired Charles to build a 12 x 17 foot pergola out of cedar as well as a 9 x 6 foot elegant shelter for our pets. We worked together to come up with the design, which Charles then drew out to spec for approval. He had great ideas and vision. The complete project went smoothly, in budget and were very happy with the end results. Charles showed up when he said he would, cleaned up nicely at the end of day and always had a positive attitude and respect for our property. It really showed that he wanted to give us his best work and make us happy.

Charlie drove down with all of his tools and small scaffolding, and I provided all of the materials and home-cooked meals. Over the course of the week we worked hard from early morning to early evening. Even though the temperature was in the high 90s, Charlie kept his cool and made the collaboration effortless. We didn't grow up together and, due to geography, have spent very little time together as adults, so this was an unusual chance to really observe who my cousin had become. And I think how a man works is indicative of who he is at heart. At heart, Charlie is a hard-working craftsman, dedicated to his field, extremely knowledgeable, gracious when clients have input but willing to be direct about options, challenges and consequences for changes and adjustments, and overall a happy, happy guy who really enjoys what he does. The garage was enclosed exactly as I had wanted it and has since been outfitted with Gladiator rails on all of the walls for off-the-ground storage and is a spacious home for both studio and geekery. Charles made a beautiful deck/arbor for our backyard last winter. He pays attention to detail and has high standard for job quality. It has been a year, and the deck/arbor is still beautiful and so enjoyable. I highly recommend this company.

Charles March designed and built a 15 by 18 foot arbor for my back patio cover. He carefully considered my desires and then designed and installed a beautiful structure that I expect will be standing as long as my house will.
