We hired Debora to provide us with a landscape design that integrated with our house remodel and brought her in early so that everything flowed together, we spent over a year and 20K just for the design and construction documents. It turns out that the landscape design could not be executed per local codes. We asked to have this redone, but the answer was "No". Debora does have good designs but make sure your contract states that the designs must comply with local codes.

We hired Deborah to redo our entire front and backyard and could not be more pleased with the result. Deborah’s ability to see the big picture, coupled with her attention to detail make her an exception. As somebody who has managed design and construction projects, I can truly say that from conceptual design through installation Deborah and her teams were exceptionally responsive. Our yard is now the envy of the neighborhood.

Debora Carl Design provided us valuable consultation and exceptional design for our large landscape project. This included pool design, all hard and soft landscaping, recreation area, and an outdoor living structure with kitchen, bathroom and fireplace. 2 Projects- both still in progress Project 1: Complete re-design and install a small yard on a sandstone cliff, that included collaborating with a pool engineer for an infinity edge Pool. Also a redefining and designing street level, at base of cliff, and designing new entry way stairs with planters. Project 2: New construction landscape design and implementation on sons new home, collaborating with architects, construction supervisor and owners. In progress. I’ve a masters in architecture and have built many homes. Landscaping is not my strength-and I searched for the right talent, and history of work...for years. Looking for someone that had modern design sensibilities yet organic with a love of plants. I think that was a rare combination. Debora Carl Landscape Design is all that and more. Project 1: My home, with a hope for a dream pool and a beautiful, functional small yard fit for entertaining and enjoying. Requests for a design, that complemented modern architecture, with a grill, pizza oven buffett table, a deck with a pergola over it, with dining for 8, pool, water feature, bench, herb garden, lemon tree, fire table with chairs. The design is spectacular and the living space fits our dream....it’s incredibly beautiful. We are so happy. Project 2: Son’s landscape design- new construction. The design is again beautiful and functional. The high level of professionalism and ease of collaboration with others is an amazing thing to watch. There is so many destails that can be addressed and planned for, before construction starts that will implement easily all we would wish: fire bowl, deck details, outdoor lighting fixtures, drainage etc. it’s been a please to work along with Debora and her team at this early stage also. I waited a few months to have our projects considered and bid upon...and I can easily say, it was worth the patience. Debora did a complete landscape design for us, including hardscape and pool/spa, and we couldn't be happier with the work! Her design transformed our property from a potentially very average parcel into a real showplace and a home that we never want to leave! I should also mention that we were fortunate to have some exceptional contractors to turn the vision into reality (all Debora's recommendations). After going through an entire winter/spring cycle since the work was completed, all of the planting is growing out beautifully and everything looks even more amazing. Debora clearly has a great deal of botanical knowledge and an exceptional artistic ability to go along with it. On the practical side, Debora and her staff were always easily reachable, pleasant and responsive to any questions or concerns we had during the process.

We hired Debora to design our extensive front and backyard landscape remodel. Can not say enough good things about her creative drought tolerant modern design. Her use of color and texture with plants and hardscape are amazing. Debora and her staff are wonderful to work with, extremely professional and just great people!!!

Our project involved the demolition and makeover of approximately 20,000 sf of landscaping (that was done contemporaneously with a full house remodel). Debora (and her team) nailed it!!! We wanted something with a sleek, modern look, but we didn't want anything that was too stark or harsh. In addition, due to the size of the project, we had to make sure that there was a seamless and coherent transition between four distinct areas of the landscaping: (1) a front entry/courtyard, (2) a zen garden, (3) the pool/patio area, and (4) a sizeable "apron" area that transitions into a larger area that is "native", i.e. not landscaped. Debora came up with the perfect design that tied everything together. Given that Debora's very first design rendering came very close to what we were looking for, it was apparent that she listened to our thoughts and input before put pencil to paper. And while there were inevitably issues that arose and changes that had to be made as the project progressed, the process was always very pleasant and efficient. In almost every instance, Debora had the perfect suggestion or solution for addressing the issue and effecting the change; there were only one or two times when we "overrode" her design with something we thought would work better for us. We recommend Debora and her team without any qualification.

We hired Debora and her team to complete the design of our backyard build out. We knew we wanted a pool, outdoor kitchen, fire pit and multiple seating areas but we could not determine a layout that would work for the shape of our yard. Debora quickly came up with a conceptual plan that exceeded our expectations and made us realize hiring a professional designer was the best decision we could make. Her attention to detail, knowledge of plants and materials and overall design aesthetic is unparalleled. Our backyard is now complete and looks incredible with a finished, polished look that would have been impossible to achieve without her help. In addition, Debora is a wonderful person to work with, very genuine, sincere and with a pleasant, calming demeanor which always helps when going through a major construction project. I would highly recommend her to anyone doing a large scale project.

Debora is a very talented landscape designer. She initially joined our house renovation team to do a landscape design and did a great job at that. She also took on responsibility for much of the additional design of the outside of the house - including front entry, driveway, entire hardscape, spa, choosing stucco and roof colors, all exterior lighting, etc. Debora has great sense of color and extensive knowledge of different plants. She has great attention to detail - we still use her very detailed landscape plans and plant list today. Our project was a success in large part due to her efforts.

Debora designed the landscape for project we designed in Carlsbad. We could not be more happy with the results. Every time I visit the place, there is a smile on my face due to the gorgeous landscape, the beautiful colors and how well it has held up since installation.

We hired Deborah to redo our front yard and had such a great experience that we hired her again two years later to do our back yard. She is polite, knowledgeable, creative and listened to our needs and preferences. A delight to work with. Her recommended contractor, Joaquin, was reliable and did excellent work. Debora has the ability to step back, see the big picture of the entire home and garden, and then focus on the details that create harmony in her designs. She brings an extraordinary sense of style and design to her work. Her talents include the ability to integrate new ideas with what exists in a remarkable and creative way — whether it is with plant material, hardscape or other garden features. For more than five years Deborah has helped shape our garden. Initially, she provided us an overall perspective and a plan for sprucing up our property and, over time, she has enabled us to adapt to factors outside of our control such as changes made by a neighbor or a city ordinance. We love Debora’s color schemes and choices; plant material selections; and garden ornaments and other items she has brought into the mix. For example, using three metal panels she took an idea we had for many years and turned it into reality: our spa area effectively became an art installation. And, by installing a simple yet beautiful trellis in keeping with the architectural design elements of our home and by suggesting that we paint the perimeter fence, she created an outdoor room. Bottom line: Debora’s refined yet subtle hand is worth waiting for!
