Deciding to renovate our front walkway and landscaping was a big investment, but OMG we are so happy with the results! Doug was professional and quickly understood the aesthetic we were going for. He designed a patio, which in person exceeded my expectations. The workers are skilled and take pride in their product. It's rare to find a company focused on quality and customer service. No cookie cutter work here. If you're looking for personalized, high-quality service, Fernhill is the way to go.

Project: Backyard Patio, Start: end June 2019 Finish: early Nov 2019, Cost: ~$75-100K Our experience with Fernhill (Doug) and his team was great from start to finish. Doug worked with us on our ideas for our backyard space, offered great suggestions and worked with us to keep the project within our budget. He was patient with us as we worked through the early design to pair down our expectations and move/add some items. We were looking for some additional electrical outlets to be added and he found a great electrical contractor for us. His crews were excellent and we had the same lead (Ryan) for the entire project. The sub-contractors for the stone walls and boulder wall were excellent as well. We were nervous about water drainage due to the hills in our yard but Doug/Ryan made sure everything was sloped properly. At the end of each work day everything was cleaned and their were no tools or debris lying around. We've had several hard rains since the project completed with no puddling or washout. We absolutely love our new space and look forward to many family dinners and time spent by the fire. Thank you to the entire Fernhill Landscape family!

From inception to creation and through execution, everyone at Fernhill is top notch. Doug did a superb job bringing my vision for our backyard to life. He was patient, professional, and adapted quickly to any requests I had for last minute changes. His crew was hardworking, clean, and respectful. It is rare to find all of these qualities in one firm. Our friends and family consistently say how impressed they are and how much they enjoy our new outside space. My oldest daughter gasped when she saw it, and said she couldn’t have imagined it looking more beautiful. We are very grateful to Doug for creating our outdoor oasis. I cannot recommend him highly enough and plan on working with him again for any future projects.

It was great working with Doug and his team! From the start, Doug listened and incorporated our ideas into the phased project we requested and remained within the budget we established; always remaining conscious of timelines. We have been so pleased with the entire process of landscaping our large bank of our corner lot. From start to finish, Doug, and all members of the team who designed and installed our beautiful landscape, were professional and extremely easy to work with. My ideas were executed perfectly, even though I gave only a general description of what I envisioned. The project was started and completed exactly in the time frame we were given. We had a wonderful experience working with Fernhill Landscapes for the first phase of our back yard re-design. Marissa did an excellent job with our design. She was very knowledgeable about what plants would be successful in our yard and was open and willing to discuss changes according to our needs. The installation team was courteous and professional and the quality of their work was phenomenal! We are excited to work with Fernhill again to complete the rest of our project.

Doug and the great team at Fernhill Landscapes built the most amazing patio and outdoor kitchen for us, and helped us restore the understory of our wooded lot with native shrubs and perennials. The project photos are "Wayne modern outdoor living" on this site. Doug has a terrific sense of design and is very knowledgeable about plants, including natives. He drew up a beautiful plan and was very responsive to my requests. The patio/kitchen design works perfectly with our mid-century house. The Fernhill team is also exceptional. Brett, the foreman, worked with us to adapt the plan to complexity of the site and all the guys were prompt, hardworking, and cleaned up the area at the end of the day. This was a huge and complicated job, involving both fall and spring planting and of course construction of the patio and outdoor kitchen. Doug and team have also been great about replacing the few shrubs that didn't survive. The project is really a work of art. Highly recommended

We hired Doug to help us finish our evolving 22 year garden project. we wanted to do a patio and fireplace. We were not disappointed! Doug worked with us to refine our ideas along with his suggestions. we worked directly with him on choosing materials. He is a true artist. As a Master Gardener I have seen many landscapers who do not always hear the client. His workers were very professional and let us know each day what to expect and worked right on schedule. We would definitely hire Fernhill for any future projects!

Doug designed a well-balanced space behind our townhouse that blends nicely with the historic stone wall and gated steps that surround it. He installed hardscaping, landscaping, decking, and lighting to set off the area in a way that looks great and is very welcoming. We now have an exceptional area to relax, and will be proud to host guests there. We definitely recommend his services!

I am extremely pleased with my experience with Fernhill Landscapes, which included the design and installation of new walkways, front door entryway, and landscaping for my front yard in 2017. For several years I had debated redoing my front yard landscaping but was unsure about how to proceed, or how to find the right landscape designer who would work with me. I live in a natural wooded setting and wanted to find a designer who would appreciate and preserve that natural landscape with native plants. After reading positive reviews about Fernhill Landscaping and spending time at their website, I felt optimistic that this might be exactly the sort of firm I had hoped to find. After meeting and talking with the firm’s owner and designer, Doug Myers, I had no doubt at all that Fernhill Landscapes was exactly the right choice for my project! My home is approximately an hour away from Fernhill Landscapes’ home base, but Doug was glad to come meet with me and interview me about my hopes for the project. In our initial interview, Doug’s extensive knowledge about native plants that would be appropriate for my home was apparent. He was respectful and courteous in finding out what kind of a setting I wanted to create for the front of my house. He really took the time to inspect and evaluate the surroundings, and to get a clear sense of what I hoped to achieve. When Doug returned with the project design and plans, I was delighted to see what he had envisioned for the property. He had designed lovely flagstone pathways, front door steps, and complementary landscape lighting, as well as extensive plantings for the landscape. The plants that he suggested were perfect in that they were predominantly native, fit with the existing trees on the property, and gave a variety of colors, textures, and plant heights. I was especially impressed by Doug’s thoughtful suggestions for a number of woody shrubs that would grow with treelike branching and augment the wooded feel of the property, yet whose future growth would still fit with the space constraints of the front yard. Doug also took care to visualize and explain how the property would look in all seasons of the year. He included plants that would provide fall and winter color, as well as plants that would provide sustenance for wildlife and birds, which was also important to me. When the work began on the project, I was also impressed by the entire Fernhill Landscapes team. Everyone who worked on the project was knowledgeable, courteous, and respectful of my property. Like Doug, the crew understood what was important to me, and they were fully engaged and dedicated to making it happen. I had no reservations about providing access to my home while I was at work. The crew was mindful of my pets and there were no problems of any kind. Later, several neighbors commented to me not only on how great everything looked, but also on how hard the crew had worked the entire time they were on the job! Doug continued to communicate with me throughout the project. At one point I had some concerns about the mix of natural colors in some of the bluestone that had been delivered. Doug kindly listened to my concerns and generously allowed me to swap out a few of the stones, enabling the final mix of bluestone to complement my house with the color tones I wanted to emphasize. The final result is gorgeous, and I have received many compliments on the improvement to my property. The natural stone pathways and step are beautiful as well as functional. The plants are lovely and contribute to the overall wooded and natural feel of my home, which was an important goal for me. I am very excited that spring will soon be arriving, and I can’t wait to see what my new landscape will look like with its new growth. In summary, I could not be more pleased with my experience with Fernhill Landscapes. I give them my highest recommendation and my strongest endorsement, and I hope to be able to work with them again on additional future landscaping projects around my home.

I worked with Doug Meyer and Fernhill Landscapes on a complete yard redo. This consisted of removing an existing concrete patio and replacing it with flagstone (including seat walls), grading of the property, installing a fence in the backyard, redoing draining, and re-landscaping the entire yard. From the original consultation, design process, and installation, Doug and his crews were wonderful to work with. Doug listened to what we wanted and offered up wonderful ideas of how to make it a reality. He was very open to working with us on any modifications to his design, and always brought ideas to the table when we were unsure. He was very responsive throughout the project, kept us updated if there were any delays, and was very transparent on any issues that came up (e.g. - the nursery was out of a particular plant). The subcontractors used by Fernhill were extremely professional and did an outstanding job, as did Doug's own crews. They were a pleasure to work with, were good at communicating progress, and were receptive to any requests that we had during the project. Although there were some delays throughout the project, overall we had a great experience with Doug and Fernhill and would recommend them to others.

On our latest project, we partnered with Fernhill to refresh the landscaping in the front and side of our home to improve the curb appeal. The combination of Doug’s ability to thoughtfully translate our interests into aesthetically pleasing designs, paired with his team’s ability to professionally execute with excellence on projects of all sizes and complexities, has made us repeat and loyal customers.
