We wholeheartedly recommend Gilmore Building Company (GBCo). During 2020 they conducted a complete remodel of the kitchen, pantry, a hallway, and mudroom in our 1895 Victorian home. What was there was outdated by many decades, and the demolition involved taking most of the rooms down to the studs. We ended up with an absolutely beautiful as well as highly functional space that we enjoy and appreciate every day. GBCo is known for building new homes that echo traditional New England styles. In our case, the remodeling resulted in a completely up-to-date kitchen that in many ways stays true to the feel, architecture, and materials of a Victorian house. There are two key qualities that make GBCo excellent in our experience: 1) They are committed to designing and completing a project that matches your hopes and expectations. We met with several builders and remodeling companies. Eric, the owner of GBCo, stood out by carefully listening to our ideas. In turn, his extensive engineering background and love for old New England homes led him to propose an ingenious reconfiguration of the space to meet our goals. Julie, the designer, drew up a plan and carefully consulted us with us about materials, and her plan guided the entire execution of the project. We were pleased to find that GBCo does not just rush to finish a job. We had weekly meetings with the multitalented project supervisor, Lou, and the unflappable project manager, Ernie, to confer and calibrate. Our expectations for the project were high: We are detail-oriented and care a lot about the historic value of the house. From start to finish, it became clear that Eric, Julie, Lou, and Ernie were committed to matching or exceeding our hopes and expectations. 2) Not only is everyone who works with GBCo professional, they are also very personable. GBCo has long-term relations with a list of subcontractors. Everyone shows up on time, cleans up every day, comes back to correct any issue as needed, and cares about the quality of their work. While we did not speak with every subcontractor, we did find that those whom we met were just plain nice. We always had the sense that Eric is honest with and considerate of his clients, and that seems to be an approach that characterizes everyone he employs. Gilmore Building Co. (GBC) recently completed our detached 3 car garage with future build-out loft space. The entire team at GBC completed the project in a very timely manner with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. GBC and their subcontractors were professional and a pleasure to work with throughout the entire project. From the beginning, Eric and Lou helped us transform the original design plans into a more cost effective and energy efficient final design. From the first day of construction there were little to no "down days" with subcontractors arriving on time and working 5 days a week. Lou did an excellent job managing our project and he was flexible in scheduling on-site meetings and kept us informed throughout the entire project. He was very responsive when contacted for questions or concerns. He resolved many of the issues very quickly and professionally. Lou is a knowledgeable project manager and managed all the subcontractors very well. Overall, we were very pleased with the quality of construction and professionalism by the entire GBC team! We live in an 1840 farmhouse and hired Eric to renovate a section of our home into our dream kitchen/mudroom. The work involved a ton of heavy lifting inside, outside, and under (rotten support beams), chimney demolition and a whole bunch of other things. Eric was able to manage all this while making our vision a reality. We are so thankful, and still love every inch of our renovated space!

From the moment I met Eric Gilmore of Gilmore Building Co,I knew he was the right builder for me. Unlike the 15+ other builders I interviewed whose first question was “ how much a square foot can you afford?’, Eric asked “what is your goal?’. My goal was to build a downsized retirement home with first floor living and a second floor for visiting family and friends on a lot I owned. Eric Gilmore’s background in engineering allowed for the best up to date selection of materials and products which would provide the least amount of maintenance over the years. The subcontractors were very professional, always arriving promptly and worked with great pride. You could tell they liked working for Gilmore Building Co. We found Gilmore to be creative in working around the challenges that a 200 year old house presents, conscientious of- and keeping us on- budget. Our renovation project consisted of creating a 1 bedroom/3 car carriage house for an in law suite, and renovating the existing barn garage space attached to our home into an extended kitchen and living area. Not a small or simple project. Initially we worked closely with Eric and his staff, and once ground broke, worked with our project manager, Jen, and our construction manager, Shawn, who were both terrific and endlessly patient through it all. They were professional at all times, honest to the overall aesthetic of our home, and overall a pleasure to work with. Our 8 month project timing slipped a few times due to unexpected challenges both project-related (eg, water run off, a gas line that needed to be routed creatively to get from point A to point B, town smoke detector craziness) and personal- a family illness that made regular weekly walk throughs more difficult. Gilmore did a good job of helping us understand why things were slipping, what the plan was for getting back on track and helping us understand what the slippage meant to the overall time table. As with most projects, we found ourselves delighted with the improvements, which made other areas seem, well, less than- Shawn and Jen were amazing with last minute texts asking "Do you think we could add....." (For instance, we decided to paint the existing house to match the new siding on the remaining project, and after seeing the first coat, called Jen and said, "Rip it off- side it all!") Jen and Shawn were always prompt collecting new proposals and explaining what made sense for now and where we might be better off waiting until we had lived in the new spaces. A year later, we are very happy with the end product and would recommend Gilmore to those interested.

I could write pages about my experience with Gilmore Building Company, but I’ll attempt to keep it brief. Building a house is one of the largest financial investments you will ever work through in life, and choosing a builder that will be on your side through the good and the bad is absolutely critical in making the project a success. I work in the pharmaceutical construction industry, so I live in the world of contracts and construction. I see the type of horror shows that can quickly evolve without appropriate project management and execution. That being said, Gilmore absolutely exceeded my expectations, which were quite high to begin with. Our project, like any typical construction project, had its share of issues, delays, impacts, which were born significantly outside of the project itself. Gilmore helped us to strategize, and mitigate the issues as they came forward in order to keep the project on track. I could list the many hurdles we had to face, and resolution to each of them, but will simply say that Gilmore’s employees and leadership have the experience and knowledge to handle anything that gets thrown at them. Now about the employees and interaction with the company. We interviewed many builders before deciding on Gilmore, yet Eric’s enthusiasm, knowledge base and innovation-centric approach sealed the deal for us. My wife and I are engineers, and it was evident that Eric’s company is well positioned to seek ways to improve comfort, cost effectiveness and efficiencies into his projects. With Eric having set the foundation for our project to move forward, we were then linked up with Julie, their interior designer support, to help guide us in the right direction with our selections – we thoroughly appreciate her hand in making sure our new house was the home we would be happy in. We were then handed over to Lou and Ernie – both of which were extremely pleasant to work with. Updates were provided timely, whenever there was a concern or question, discussions were had and resolutions found. Even after the project completed, support to close out the minor issues were never a concern. Overall, with all the horror stories of building a home, and clients being upset with their builders’ performance in one way or another, we could not be happier we selected Gilmore. Thank you to Eric, Julie, Lou, Ernie, and anyone else I may have missed, you truly made our lives happier. All of your support and long discussions through this journey will not be forgotten. Gilmore Building Company, Inc. is a professionally run company founded by Eric Gilmore. He has a Master's Degree in Construction Management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and has a Civil Engineering background from Syracuse University. Given the new, more challenging building codes in New England for energy efficient homes, Eric is one of the few builders I have interviewed who has kept up with the latest building technologies. The custom home Eric is building for me is a classic design with custom trim, best practice in energy efficiency using the latest hybrid insulation techniques, new Geothermal heat pumps using coaxial wells, hydronic snow melt, home automation, high end internet connectivity, and security, robust electrical design with backup generator. Eric works well with top building architects, engineers, landscape architects, and interior designers. The house design was done using computer-aided design (CAD) drawings, cut on computer milling machines (CNC) with great precision (panelized construction techniques). Building envelope is largely maintenance free using materials like mahogany trim, copper flashing, Zipwall, breathable construction, Advantech flooring (better moisture resistance and nailing benefits over plywood), Hardiplank siding, interior stone and quartz, and exterior stone work. Eric's engineering background has allowed a cost effective design to achieve the mandatory HERS energy index ratings adopted by Massachusetts municipalities (started in 2012). My main objective was to find a builder to construct a traditional/classic home with high technology amenities and advanced construction techniques. Eric is one of only a few builders I have found that could satisfy those objectives.

We hired Gilmore Building Company to design and build our new home. The process was thoughtful and collaborative and ended up being a lot of fun. GBCo was extremely detail oriented and managed all the details engaging us when decisions needed to be made. The communication and organization was exceptional and the project was completed on time and on budget.

For our project, my wife and I wanted to build a house that "fit in" on a street full of charming 19th century New England style homes. Eric Gilmore, president of Gilmore Building Company, a custom home builder in central MA, worked with us and his architect associates to develop a concept that combined our custom floor plan goals with traditional architecture using the Greek Revival style prevalent on the street to build a "new old home". To complete the look, Eric custom designed many of the exterior and interior trim and molding patterns himself. The exterior design turned out to be so authentic that at one point later in the construction phase, an acquaintance that didn't know we were doing this house project remarked to me as we drove past the construction site, "Aw, isn't it nice that someone is restoring that beautiful old house?" ... but it was this new house: goal exceeded! This was our first custom home, so we were looking for a low risk, low stress process. Once all the design goals were realized and the plans were drawn up, construction went smoothly. Weekly on-site meetings helped review progress and answer the "this or that" questions that inevitably come up during the build of a custom home. We are now moved in and enjoying all the hard work that Eric and his team put in to the painstakingly designed, quality built, energy efficient home that has all the features we asked for -- and it fits right into the neighborhood.
