Hal designed and constructed a 40x30 ft garden enclosure for our home in Afton to keep deer out. The garden includes 6 raised beds, each 6x12 ft. In the middle, with 3 raised beds on each side, Hal built a sturdy pergola so that grapes/hops can grow up out of the beds. At the end of the center aisle, Hal built barn style sliding doors. The surrounding fence is made of strong hog fencing and treated southern pine posts. The project exceeded our expectations and should last 100 yrs.

Hal’s work is amazing. He is the only one I would hire for garden structures. He listened carefully to what I wanted, examined my drawings, did a ton of research, and built the incredible structures in my Japanese-style garden. He is the only one I would hire, ever! His work is precise, very detailed, and always done correctly. He encouraged me to expand my ideas, then overwhelmed me with his capabilities. Yes, my garden is featured here with the Torii (gate), privacy gate, spouts, and more. My garden has many visitors every year. All are invited. Soooo many comments on the woodwork.

Hal designed and constructed a wonderful mailbox structure for our family. We live at the end of a dead end road and there are three built- in mailboxes. Morning glories grow up and across the trellis and it it just really, really nice to go out and get the mail. Hal loves his creative work, pays attention to every detail, and is as honest as the day is long. I recommend Hal for outdoor structures and just about any other project around the home or business.

If you want an ordinary looking, perfectly adequate fence (or arbor or pergola--a word I'm not even sure I knew before working with Hal), you should find a different contractor. If you want a work of art that expands your notion of what a "garden structure" can be and do, you should work with Hal Morris. Hal doesn't do square boxes. He listens to what you want your outdoor space to be, how you want to _live_ in it, and--filtering it through his sensibility--realizes it in durable yellow pine that will last longer than you live in the house. If you know exactly what you want, he'll respect that--though he may push back a little, for the good of the project. If you have no idea what you want, he'll help you get there. He has an opinion. I like, needed, and greatly respect that. Plus, Hal is a generous guy. Every winter the latches he put on our garden gates get out of alignment, because of the tectonics of winter in Minnesota, and every spring he comes out, even unprompted, and resets them. He'll do odd jobs for you around the house too, if it fits in with his schedule. He's a fascinating person to just shoot the breeze with. He's an artist. Hire this guy.

Hal designed and installed a pergola for us. It was nothing but a positive experience. From working through the design, to the work getting done when he said it would, and communicating with us about changes and costs, it was great. I recommend this company!

Hal's skills at design and building is unmatched. The garden structures that Hal builds are constructed with the greatest attention to detail and craftsmanship. Hal understands his client's needs and completes his work to fulfill those needs. Hal is great at communicating with clients about the project, completion status, and budget. He is very respectful in managing a worksite. The worksite is left neat and clean at the end of the day. Hal Morris, owner and craftsman for Garden Structures & More, is surely one of the few remaining craftsman out there that stands behind his work and will undoubtedly give you more than what you are expecting. His detail, work ethic and abstinence from junk materials ultimately give his clients a very meaningful product in the end. I am a landscape designer and Hal has done great things not only for my clients, but I trust nobody else to build at my house (outdoor or indoor). You are not going to get work completeted from Hal like many of the McDonlad's-type order 'em up and send them out type contractors these days, but when you have waited your turn you will not be unhappy with Garden Sturcture's final product.
