Jane Finlay Garden Design

So grateful to be working with Jane. Our garden is an average terrace house in the centre of London and with Jane's help we hope to transform the space. She has been excellent from the beginning of our discussions, explaining every step of the design process clearly and in layman's terms. Jane responded swiftly and imaginatively to our brief and so far has exceeded our expectations. She has managing landscape construction plans for us, refined drawings both technically and conceptually as changes arose and above all has been dependability and flexible. The standard of construction drawings and the thought put into the plant palette has been first class. We are excited to think of what the garden will look like when we are finished and thankful to have found Jane to realise our plans.

We asked Jane to design a garden from scratch. We have built a new, virtually see-though house on an existing urban site and and wanted the house and garden to share a visual impact, be easy to maintain, and give year-round interest, as the design of the house means that the garden is very much part of it. We did spend some money! But we have mature trees and clouds of beautiful planting, a stunning internal courtyard and a front garden that has people stopping us in the street to say how great it looks. On a professional level, Jane is a delight to work with. She thinks out of the box, she consults, researches, listens and discusses. For us the full-on labour of gardening is not where the joy of the garden lies. Rather, what appeals is the pleasure of being in a garden that stimulates the senses while calming the mind, a space that affords relaxation over a meal with family and friends, the peace of just sitting about or sharing a cool glass of wine. Essentially that, along with the more obvious necessity of the garden being a beautiful extension of the house and a constant joy to behold, was our brief to Jane. Now we have terraces of sun and of shade, scent and sound - rustling grasses and gently splashing water - and a garden that gently calls to us every day, regardless of season or weather. We contacted Jane Finlay Designs to design and plant our new garden in London after our move from the country. Jane was very professional spending time with us to discus what type of garden we wanted. Unfortunately we did not have clue what we wanted so we decided to leave it in Jane's hands. She firstly carried out a sun and shade survey and a soil test. She used an abstract painting we have in the the room that overlooks the garden and the copper beach tree in the garden as a colour 'theme' for the design. She presented us with a comprehensive report including designs and photos which we readily agreed and the garden was duly installed and it looks wonderful. I can only say that we are two very happy and grateful clients.
