John Scott, owner and principle designer for Landscape By Design, worked for 20 years as an Art Director for television and film, collaborating closely with photographers to create lasting images. This same artistic eye for detail can be seen in the landscapes and outdoor environments created for his clients. In addition to his extensive design and construction skills, he has an Applied Degree in Horticulture and a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture. Each John Scott design is custom tailored to fit the needs of each client. Site considerations include architecture of the home, screening needs, drainage, traffic flow, handicapped needs, and much more, all matched aesthetically to the lifestyle of your family, children, friends, and pets. Curb appeal enhances the first impression of your home. We had John design and install new landscaping in our backyard. He was so great to work with from start to finish. John was respectful of our budget, listened to our input, and produced a great plan. We picked Landscape by Design based on other reviews. So happy we did. John and his firm were incredibly easy to work with, very professional, and gave us an incredible design and install on our project. We had an older overgrown landscape in the home we purchased so John's firm also had to remove all the old plants (some had to have been here since the home was built in the 90s) without tearing the place up. What amazed me was how quickly and carefully they were in removing the old landscape plants, preparing the beds, and then installing the new plan. We would gladly hire Landscape by Design for any landscaping project if we had it to do again.

After interviewing 3 landscapers We chose to use John to do our backyard landscaping because of the yards he had done in the past were beautiful and had some similar elements to what we were looking for. He did a fantastic job that exceeded all our expectations! He takes great care each step of the way. We enlisted him to redesign the front yard flowerbeds as well as add a paved patio, pergola, privacy screen, flowerbeds, and a fire pit area to the backyard. He is very knowledgeable, creative, and efficient! Even with all the rain this summer he was able to persevere and create a tranquil outdoor living area for us. Besides his conscientious work ethics he is a very kindhearted man who cares about his customers. We recommend his services 100%!

We recently moved to Argyle from out of state and wanted to create a very rustic, natural space with stacked stone borders, lots of natural foliage and a spa in our backyard. It was important for us to keep with the character and architectural style of our home. John was very patient with us through the design process and despite many challenges along the way due to weather and scheduling logistics with some of the subs he always maintained his wonderful demeanor and careful attention to detail. We were very pleased with the end product and would highly recommend him.

We had to redo and update quite a bit of landscaping around the front and side of our house. John did a great job of putting together a design, integrating some existing plants where possible, and walking through the plan explaining his thought process. Worked with us on making modifications and answering questions. He definitely added more life and color to our landscaping. Brian Perry and Landscape By Design did a really excellent job in re-landscaping the entrance of our neighborhood. I'm in charge of landscaping on our HOA Board serving a neighborhood of 57 houses. First of all, Brian and his Landscape By Design team produced the best design and most cost effective of the three bids we received. He listened carefully to what we were looking for and then furnished a number of options (pictures, drawings and descriptions of various shrubs, plants, flowers and boulders) that would fit those needs. After winning the bid, Brian and his team went to work installing our selection in a very professional and timely way ... keeping me advised as to their progress along the way. A few months later, they quickly replaced a small number of shrubs that suffered from summer heat at no cost. Our HOA Board is very pleased with Brian and Landscape By Design. I would highly recommend them.

John listens to and incorporates the client’s ideas also offering suggestions to make the ideas amazing. John only uses top notch employees who are professional, experienced and experts in their field and who have worked with him for many years. When the job is completed, workers remove all debris, leaves the yard clean and John does a final overview to assure the client is satisfied with the job. I’ve hired John for several projects over the years and each job exceeded my expectations. I recommend Landscapes by Design to anyone wanting an exceptional outcome.
