I am an experienced landscape designer with over 35 years of experience, specializing in beautiful, drought-tolerant landscape designs that look great all year. My designs use little water, are low-maintenance, and do well in poor soil. I use plants from around the world; including California natives, Mediterranean plants, and plants from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and South America. As a former teacher, I educate my clients about the plants that are selected for their new landscape, keeping very much in mind the plants' climate needs and each client's vision.

If you want someone with an artistic flair who really knows plants, then you need Linda! Call Linda and you'll not only get someone extremely knowledgeable but also a plant-passionate and friendly soul who's pleasure to work with. Linda helped us create a flowering drought tolerant garden...a challenge as much of our yard is shaded all year, and another part under a deciduous tree. Besides that, Linda is a perfectionist and measures everything herself to guarantee that the plants will fit and not grow into one another. Working with Linda is a pleasure. She will work with you, show you plant options to help you choose the plants you'll love it. And so, together, we have created a drought tolerant, part shady part sunny garden that attracts hummingbirds and butterflies....and much of it flowers all year!

We hired Linda to design a succulent garden to replace 3500 square feet of thirsty lawn. Both the front and backyards were re-designed with an amazing assortment of color, height, and texture. After 2 1/2 years, we continue to get lots of compliments from neighbors and passers by! Our yard was even selected to be on a local garden club's tour in April! We highly recommend Linda - you will be thrilled with the result!

Linda is pleasant and easy to work with. She has an amazing understanding of plants. She knows every single detail about each plant and how to compliment one with another. .She advises every detail if the plant full growth will fit in a situation etc..Linda created a beautiful design for me . I am very particular and did not like several plants . I also wanted lesser plants. She is not threatened and graciously adjusted the plan so it is totally me. I am the one who will daily enjoy my yard. I am not left saying ,"I wish that I had changed something". She gives her all so her clients are happy with her design. That is why I can highly recommend her as" Excellent".

We hired Linda to design and install our front and back yard with drought-tolerants and succulents. The design process was very interactive which I loved, since I'm a gardener. I had a ton of potted plants that Linda was open to using in the design. I like Linda's philosophy of using drought-tolerant, beautiful plants, planted with final size in mind to minimize pruning and over-planting. The diversity of plants Linda chose create great color, texture, and interest every single day of the year. We love our yard and go out every day to see what's new. It is a joy.

Linda is very different from most landscape designers but in a very good way. First, she comes to your house, discusses your needs, measures the space, and then goes to work while still at your house! You have a design before she leaves! The other way she is unique is that she knows plants that many other designers do not. Our requirements were: low water; no spikes or cacti; no fertilizing; and little if any trimming. I have done my own landscaping on over a dozen houses so I thought I knew most plants. WRONG! I did not know the latest and greatest but Linda does. I have worked with various design professionals since the 1990's and Linda is among the best for your soft scape needs.

Linda has done two beautiful designs for me. She worked with me to understand my landscape requirements (4-season color, bird-friendly, water-miserly, curb appeal) and budget and offered multiple options that we discussed before making selections. She was knowledgeable about the pros and cons of each plant and where they could be sourced. I felt like I was part of the process. She works quickly and efficiently. It is fun working with her and I highly recommend Living Designs by Linda.

Linda is knowledgeable and passionate about her landscaping! With great attention to detail she looks at area(s) to be transformed from many points of view: location/how much sun or shade will it receive, varying heights so it always looks interesting, color or theme per area, giving clients choices to make it personal. Our small yard filled in in less than a year and looks beautiful. She is methodical, practical, reliable and thorough.

We are delighted with our "new" front yard! We transitioned to succulents, rich in color and variety. The compliments of neighbors and guest have been unending! We have been so please that we recently had Living Designs By Linda create a plan for two "eyesore" areas in our back yard. The results are stunning. We are looking forward to having Linda redesign the rest of our back yard. Living Designs By Linda has earned our highest recommendations.

Linda is a phenomenal landscape designer. She is an artist at the top of her game who paints/sculpts a tapestry with plants. Her blend of colors, textures, shapes, and sizes is absolutely masterful and unique. She designed a front yard and back yard for us (we have implemented the front yard and are now working on the back) using water-wise succulents and plants. Not only did she do the design but she worked with our contractor to ensure the ground was prepared the way she envisioned and that the irrigation system would meet the needs of the plants. She then oversaw the plant selection and their planting. It is now a year later and people still come by to comment on how beautiful it is and to take pictures. But even as her reputation has grown and deservedly so, she is still down to earth and very affordable. In my experience there are not many contractors that I would choose to work with again once a construction project is finished but we would work with Linda again in a heartbeat.

Linda did a wonderful. Job for us. She worked with us to establish a rough idea for a plan. She then prepared for us a detailed plan showing layout of a dry creek bed, and where to place larger boulders, as well as mounds. Her plan included a detailed placement of each plant, as well as where each different plant was to be place. She included for us a picture of each of the plants so we could envision what each of these plants looked like. Linda then purchased the plants, had them delivered, and place them on the site. We helped my gardener as to the type of irrigation and the frequency of watering. We couldn't be more satisfied with Living Designs By Linda Tom James
