Boulder Architect, Michael Silbert, specializes in custom home design for the mountains and plains, as well as additions and renovations. With 32 years of experience in Colorado, Michael understands the value of incorporating the clients’ vision with his own and balancing these ideas with the building site environment to create a well conceived, energy efficient design. "As an avid outdoors-man and environmentalist, I have always felt a deep connection with the natural world. I believe that same relationship is important in residential architecture, which is why energy efficiency, sustainability, and strong visual links to the outdoors are an integral part of my designs. Another important part of my philosophy is the team approach. The homes that I create are not for my use, but for my clients to live in. Their ideas are crucial to the schematic design process and their feedback throughout the later stages of the design process can help turn the early sketches into their dreams. I have designed around 300 homes in the Front Range and Vail areas, so I have experience with mountain and plains design. I have designed numerous additions and renovations both large and small. I have also designed mufti-family projects and small commercial buildings. I offer free initial consultations for those who are considering any type of project."

Michael was a joy to work with. Plans were produced on time, on budget. Modifications by the homeowners were thoughtfully considered and always included in plans with no push-back. During the build we decided to fully finish the basement and he quickly produced plans for the additional 2200 sq. ft.. If only all the people in the custom home build process were as good as this architect! Oh, and we love the design, too and people frequently comment on its unique shape.

We interviewed a few architects and after meeting Michael we decided that he was a perfect fit . For me personality is very important in a relationship like this and Michael filled that for us . Working with him was a pleasure , it's nice when you can hire someone for a project and towards the end you feel like a friendship has started . That's how the it should be ...he made a lot of things easy for us and I would recommend him highly . We are from the east coast so a build in the Rockies was a challenge for us and I'm glad we had someone who could steer the ship so to speak . That being said my sister just purchased land close to me and will be calling Michael soon . For me his eye for building in the mountains , being on top of things & great communication with us ..add a good personality and it's Win/Win for the client and the architect . I look forward to working with Michael again in the future .

Michael is a joy to work with. He has a strong sense of place and skillfully captures the natural beauty of the environment in his designs. He has a gift for incorporating excellent flow. His homes are very live-able and well suited for entertaining. He knows exactly where to position windows and decks to bring the outdoors in and creates a living space that compliments the lifestyle of those for whom he works. He is prompt and his prices are reasonable for the work he does. Anyone who works with him will ultimately be delighted with their dream home. Michael Silbert was the architect for our house in Sunshine Canyon which we rebuilt after a wildfire had destroyed our previous house. We had lived there for 16 years and had a good idea of what we wanted in terms of a floor plan but we were at an impasse in terms of the exterior and creating a cohesive design. We had worked with a different architectural firm for 8 weeks without making any real progress towards arriving at a solution. Michael offered to perform a time boxed conceptual design for the exterior of the house. The result was a design that worked great for us. We then hired Michael to complete the architectural design and construction drawings. An added bonus was Michael's knowledge of energy efficient construction and the intricacies of dealing with the Boulder County building regulations.

I run D&D Builders Inc, in Boulder Colorado. We have framed dozens of homes Michael designed over the last 20'years. I find his drawings to be easy to build from and have a great balance of good design, without the clutter of excess detailing that is so prevalent in modern architecture. I know he is budget conscious and will keep the client's priorities in mind.

Michael did all of the conceptual design work on our "mining architectural theme" home that we built in the Black Hills of South Dakota, which was then handed off to a Design/Build general contractor who took the project from there. Michael captured our design theme perfectly - we could not have been happier with his work!
