Distinctive Interior Designs

This is the second time we have worked with Nicole at Distinctive Interior Designs. She did a beautiful job on our beach house and we asked her to help us with a new build for our primary home. She and Susan Ansberry were with us from the very first design choices all the way through full design, furniture and accessories of the home. We are more than pleased with the results.

Innovative ideas and an openness to work within our budget highlighted our experience with Distinctive Interior Designs. Nicole and her team took the dark and dated kitchen, eating area, and family room and created a bright, open and beautiful living space. The project was not without its hiccups and delays mostly caused by COVID supply line issues but in the end the results are brilliant and a joy to live in these “new” spaces.

I couldn’t be happier with my choice of designers! I had SO much fun working with Nicole and her team. Everyone here is so talented, efficient, hardworking, and super knowledgeable. Every question, problem, and concern was taken care of immediately, with zero hassle to me. I absolutely LOVE my home, all thanks to Nicole and her staff. Even my husband is happy with the designs (which is almost an impossible feat). Working with them has been the best experience I’ve ever had. The process started by meeting with Nicole and her team to plan a master suite/bath remodel. Their knowledge of materials, space, and design were outstanding. They listened to our vision of the space and brought it to life. Most importantly was their professionalism when issues arose, which happens in every project. Nicole is fabulous! She did an amazing job on a complete overhaul of our family room, living room, kitchen, morning room, powder room, and master bedroom. The wonderful design and project management that she has provided leaves us wanting even more rooms redesigned. We now plan on using her services to turn our office, basement, and bathrooms into something spectacular as well! It has been 10+ years that I have entrusted Distinctive Interior Designs to help update our windows with blinds and curtains, had a comforter made, and pillows made for multiple rooms in my house. No job is ever too small or big for this company to take on. One of the more challenging projects was the two story windows that needed curtains and later blinds replaced. This required a lot of man power and multiple two story ladders to get this installed. It is impressive when the owner of this company is fully vested in the project and is willing to help with a complicated install by personally helping do the install. The visions they create for the rooms are aligned with the customer taste and I love that too. Cannot say enough good things about this company. Every time I walk into my house I love seeing the vision Distinctive Designs helped carry out in every room of my house.

Nicole is very personable and easy to work with! When we first met, I had an idea, but after throwing ideas around, she came up with the perfect floor plan to fit our needs. She made the process of selecting colors, fabrics and furniture effortlessly. She is very accommodating when we had meet at various retail locations. Next project, I would hire her again!

Nicole and Judy did a fantastic job and created a beautiful space for my daughter. I kinda rushed them into doing the project as my daughter was visiting from LA and I wanted her bedroom re-done before she arrived. Regardless of the pressure to get things done, there were no shortcuts taken. The work was outstanding and the final product was stunning! Nicole was very professional, considerate of my time (or lack thereof). She would send me pictures of the items she was shopping for to ensure that I was in the loop the whole time. She also listens to you and is never judgmental.

We used Nicole for a project that included complete remodel of our master bath, updating our extra bath and powder room as well as kitchen backsplash and counter. My husband and I are not very knowledgeable with design and were smart enough to realize that going in. I found Nicole's company by searching and reading a lot of reviews and what stood out initially was her longevity in the business and how the business grew over time to include different types of services. Once we met Nicole we felt comfortable with her, with her knowledge and her professionalism. Nicole definitely provided a wealth of ideas, coordinated all the construction and was able to adapt quickly if an issue came up. Besides her design ability, willingness to listen and answer numerous questions, her patience was amazing as indecision on our end in making final selections prolonged project. Nicole handled all this calmly and with nothing but professionalism! We finished the project in fall of 2019 and are very pleased with the outcome. Our trust in Nicole and her work led us back to her this past summer for updating of our window treatments and once again she had great ideas and the windows in all the rooms look great. Nicole does great work and any project would be in good hands with her.

This is the second time I have used Nicole Lorber of Distinctive Designs. Her taste is wonderful and she listens to what I like also. She is easy to work with and the people she recommends are all craftsmen. It is true that your home is your palace and she has made me happy with mine.

Nicole did a big job for us which from the beginning ran into an extraordinary number of setbacks and problems. This was through no fault of hers and thankfully we had her managing and correcting the issues. She is very responsible and works very hard for her clients. The only reason we didn’t give her 5 stars was that we felt there were areas of inefficiency that could have made the project run a bit smoother. But we would definitely hire her again!

I’ve worked with Nicole on a couple projects and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have found her to be very professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with. Having recently moved into a new home, I needed privacy and light control throughout. After doing extensive research, and reading lots of reviews, I connected with Nicole at Distinctive Interior Designs to purchase shades, shutters, and blinds. She has a tremendous amount of knowledge regarding different types of products and helped guide me through some challenging decisions. Even through a couple of product hiccups (no fault of hers), this company stood behind the work and ultimately made everything perfect. The pricing was very reasonable.

I worked with Nicole from Distinctive Interior Designs on a couple of recent projects for my new beach house. The first thing she helped me with was window treatments and rugs. She did a great job matching my taste and decor and tying together the transitional and contemporary looks in my home. The rugs really completed the design look I was going for. The best project was a bar to fill empty space in my great room. Nicole was so passionate and creative. She drew the design for the bar and all was custom made to her very detailed specifications. The design was absolutely perfect for my taste and space. She considered every detail from the lighting, depth, utility, design details and options. The result was a jaw dropping stunning bar — the most beautiful thing in my home. Everyone that comes into my home just loves it. Nicole was so easy to work with. She is extremely talented and professional. She was completely on top of every detail of this project and made sure it was completed on time. I would highly recommend Nicole’s design work.

3 years ago, I was lucky to find Nicole for my master bath and living room/dining room update.... every day I take a shower in my 4x6 steam shower, I mentally thank her.... further, with what she did in my LR/DR, really makes a decorative statement. I watch a lot HGTV and DIY.... I know now that when I get my next influx of money, I am going to reach out to Nicole and just tell her my budget and let her decide what paint, flooring and furniture updates I need. My husband Marc and I were so fortunate to find such a wonderful designer as we furnished our newly purchased center city Philadelphia condo. We had complete confidence in Nicole's design ability as she offered suggestions and guided us through the process. We appreciated how she worked with our style and vision rather than trying to inject her own. We were completely satisfied with wall colors and the magnificent flooring that she chose for us. We will retain her services again when we tackle the future phases of our project.

We were new to New Jersey, buying an older home with a badly outdated kitchen/dining area that needed a major overhaul and found Nicole's company via Houzz. She guided us through this renovation, pulling in the various trades that were required, from kitchen design and materials to plumbing, electric, masonry, flooring and tile. She was unfailing upbeat and energetic, even when problems arose (as they always seem to) and was promptly responsive whenever we needed to contact her. She's a total professional.

Originally, her company was recommended to me by a furniture store I was purchasing from--funny that I ended up loving working with her even more than that store. We enjoyed working with Nicole this year on our extensive home remodel. I was so overwhelmed when I realized all the different phases our kitchen, family room, basement and bedroom remodels would entail. She took charge right away and her passion and experience were very evident. It took an amazing amount of coordination on her part. She guided us in picking out tile, lighting, flooring, paint colors, furniture, rugs and window treatments. Her team of professionals practically lived in our home for weeks at a time! They were really great to work with and Nicole kept a watchful eye at every point in the process. She puts her heart and soul in everything she designs. She has an excellent eye for color and I appreciated how she explained why certain colors/fabrics worked well (or not!) when we made our choices. I have worked with Nicole on dozens of jobs and have always been impressed with not only the finished product but the entire process. Her ability to understand the wants of the customer as opposed to imposing her opinion is amazing. Nicole has never tried to impose her will, which is more than I can say for many other designers that I have worked with.

Fast forward twenty years later working with Nicole again. I've been recommending her to friends while I was out of the area and always got such fabulous feedback. I recently moved back to the east coast and I was able to utilize the services of Distinctive Interior Designs for my own new condo. I was happy to see how much her business has grown over the past twenty years; she is a dynamo. We have just started the process, but so far every item that arrives, makes me giddy and excited like a child. Nicole just has an incredible natural eye. I'm a very hands on person who loves the thrill of the hunt, so Nicole allows me my fun of searching and searching but then I show her my top choices and I fully respect her opinion. Sometimes I need to be tamed and toned down (I love all statement pieces and have to remember that you can't have the eye looking at statements in all directions in a room) and Nicole politely tells me when I'm going overboard. I'm sure it would be a lot easier for Nicole to work with someone who doesn't have the time to obsess over endless searches and would just let her do her job, but I can definitely say that Nicole has tremendous patience for my style. I have also seen her results with clients who have just asked her to wave her magic wand and have it all done; so impressive. Nicole has great vision, can move walls and transform complete looks, but she encourages her clients to also pay attention to the accessories and fine details at the end which bring the total job together. So far we have completed install of my remote control window shades, furniture selection of some really dynamite and unique pieces, and my two fabulous rugs have arrived (one a lush, oversized shag and the other a subtle hair on hide rug that won't compete with my furniture choices). I'm already getting compliments on my "gorgeous" rugs and can't wait for my friends to see the furniture Nicole and I have selected. As an empty nester, I'm going to take this decorating job to completion and allow Nicole to make sure it has that professionally decorated look that I foolishly skimped on when I was raising kids or moving around and not settled into my forever home. So excited to be working with Nicole again, she is passionate, motivating, knowledgable and patient and makes this process fun, rather than a chore. As a side note, Nicole also visited my shore house in the past year and made some minor changes with major effects. My attitude 9 years ago was, "it's just a shore house"; using a decorator hadn't even occurred to me. I had used an inexpensive window treatment guy who only cared about making the sale, and didn't stop me from being my own worst enemy and making costly mistakes. Nicole found a cost effective way for me to correct my errors and not kick myself for wasting the money on the original window coverings. She also suggested that I rearrange the placement of existing furniture in the living room; her mind just works like that and with the snap of a finger, major improvements happen. She is hard working, honest, dedicated, as well as respectful of budget, personal style and goals. I would highly recommend Nicole to anyone looking to work with a down to earth decorator.

I have known Nicole for almost eight years. I contacted her, after seeing the work she did in our clubhouse. I’ve been using DDN for over 10 years now. Nicole has done all the window treatments in my house. I’ve also used her consulting for a renovation project that included everything from custom furniture, rugs & paint colors. It was a great comfort to have her by my side or a phone call away during what could have been a very overwhelming project. I've worked with Nicole for several years, slowly, (my choice) but surely, getting my home decorated. She is superb. Nicole has always been respectful of my ideas and preferences, is always on time and pleasant and, most of all, she is truly gifted. With very little experience or expertise in decorating, I ventured into this with some trepidation but it has been a delightful experience. She really listens, she has taken me to wonderful sources and has made excellent suggestions. If she says an installation will occur on a specific date it does. If she says she will be here at a particular time, she is. Without exception everyone who has entered my home has complimented me on how beautiful it is. I always point out that Nicole gets the credit, not me. I was just lucky enough to find her. Early on I was sometimes unsure if I would like her suggestions and in each case I was more pleased than I can describe. I now don't hesitate. If she makes a suggestion I know it will please me. Unlike other decorators I've heard about she doesn't not impose her taste on me but rather learned about me and has used her insight to make suggestions appropriately. At the moment major work on my house required that it be completely emptied and all furnishings packed and stored. Nicole handled all of that with no hassle for me at all. Of course she will also be the one I will depend upon to get it all back together and I know it will look as good as new. Unfortunately I'm sorry that since the house is now empty I can't include photos. I have recommended Distinctive Designs by Nicole to many people and they have reported back that they too have been very satisfied. I recommend her with pleasure and without hesitation and I continue to call on her still.
