Peter Hanson Sculptural Spaces

Peter is on a whole different level. You can totally trust him to envision possibilities. We have lived here for 45 years and never found a solution to our garden hillside. He came in and listened to our ideas and opened our eyes to unimaginable possibilities. The results are a miracle! There is such an orderly flow to how he works with every aspect of the job. He brings a great depth of experience with him that informs his unique perspective. One doesn't know until they meet him how wonderful the process will be,

Peter combines a refined eye for design and beauty with a very practical hands on approach to getting the needed work done in a timely fashion. His fountains and sculptures are both elegant and contemporary. And the way he is able to create outdoor living spaces using site appropriate materials and plantings makes him an unusually gifted artist. He's also very personable and excels at developing lasting relationships with his colleagues and clients.

It takes a team of creative, intelligent and hard-working people to build a beautiful home and Peter fit into our team perfectly. Each member contributes his/her own perspective, ideas, energy and expertise. Peter's included an ability to visualize and construct wonderful shapes that work with the environment--hence the marvelous, flowing stone walls. He is also a great communicator (eg, with the architect, contractor, owners), is positive with a good sense of humor, takes initiative and sees any job finished. We'd hire him again in a minute.

Peter designed and constructed a series of sculptures for a residence we designed in Carmel. Without those sculptures the project would have not been very successful. In fact when the Wall Street Journal came to the home to write an article about the house. The videographer decided to start the film with one of Peter's sculptures. By focusing on the sculpture WSJ was able to capture the essence of the house.

Peter's work is exquisite and original! Peter sculpted the most beautiful and unique landscape out of the very blank, flat space in front of my simple ranch-style home in 2013. It's elegant in its simplicity, and creative without being in any way contrived. Passers-by routinely compliment us on our yard or u-turn to drive again. Working with Peter was a joy too - he was both inspired and inspiring. He was collaborative and attentive to our priorities AND strong enough to take a stand against some of my silly ideas (I absolutely trusted that he should have the final say!). I admired his attention to every detail and appreciated his involvement with every aspect (new driveway, garden beds, irrigation, plant selection, drainage, etc). I've seen some of Peter's other landscapes (and his own back yards) over the years, incredibly, each one is unique, and somehow seems very personal. Clearly, I whole-heartedly recommend him and wish you joy in the process.

We hired Peter as a landscape designer and we were exceedingly pleased. Peter has a spacial awareness and eye for beauty that I have rarely seen. His advice on plants, design, placement, and outbuildings resulted in a most magnificent garden and patio. He designed and built a beautiful fountain that is a focal point of our patio which now serves as a sanctuary, dining room, and entertainment center. It's incredible how many complements we receive. We were so lucky to find Peter and work with him over the course of a number of months. He even recommended a fantastic contractor whose workers did a superb job. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Peter Hanson is a landscape architect genius! He completely transformed our back yard into a tranquil sanctuary with beautiful, live palettes of color, a custom designed sculptural water fountain, and a one-of-a-kind pergola. He will listen to your ideas and then elaborate on them--we kind of knew what we wanted (and didn't want), but he greatly exceeded our expectations with his vast knowledge of plants and space and his creative imagination. Peter's work has greatly improved our quality of life in our home and garden.
