RSL Outdoor

We worked with the team at RSL fall 2023 on a large landscape overhaul at our house in Boulder. This included a complete tear our of existing landscaping, relocation some large trees, re-grading, tearing out all existing concrete and installing pavers, and a handful of other projects. John, Brian and Steve presented a budget that was easy to understand and were very helpful when we needed to value engineer a few areas to meet our budget. During the project we recieved daily and weekly updates on schedule, clear billing, and opportunities to provide input on materials placement and other details. We think RSL is the best and would recommend to anyone looking for a high quality landscape installation.

RSL (John) did a landscape plan for us including hardscape and vegetation. They took our desires which included low-water usage, a raised-bed garden area, patio with a pergola and an area for a fire pit and incorporated them into the plan. John helped us with material selection and revising the plan to meet our needs. RSL then bid and executed on the plan. They kept to the budget and timeline they initially proposed. The quality of the work was excellent. The crew was easy to work with and suggested improvements as they were implementing the plan. The house was still under construction and RSL worked well other contractors on site (this could have been a problem). I highly recommend RSL.

I would highly recommend RSL to any potential clients. The first person I met from RSL was John. We did a walk-through the yard and shortly after he came back and provided me with beautifully rendered images of the project that captured what I was imagining. It went beyond my expectations. The project included a covered patio with heating lamps, an Island with barbecue, refrigeration, and a pizza oven expanding to a seating area with a fire pit and hot tub and an addition of a putting green! The plantings blended in with the surroundings and RSL brought in very experienced contractors to add Nana wall doors in the bar and dining area opening up the entire house to enjoy the outdoor area. Once the project got started I met with Brian the project manager. I knew then that I already had a great team! From beginning to end everyone that worked on the project was hard working, on time, worked through some bad weather and was highly professional. I live in an area where my home is very visible. People are always stopping by to tell me how gorgeous my backyard is now. I am looking forward to working with RSL in the future and highly recommend them.

I worked with RSL on the landscaping of my new build in North Boulder. They were fantastic from the planning stages through the execution. I didn't have the budget to make my dream garden, but they worked with me to simplify things to where I could afford something I love and build upon it over time. 100% would work with them again.

Excellent planning and very creative in the landscape design plan. We only made a couple changes from the original plan, and RSL was very accomodating to our suggestions. Additionally, the landscape architect has incredible knowledge on which trees, shrubs, and perennials thrive in this climate, in addition to his innate skils in designing a landscape plan. The landscape installers were very respectful of our land/lot and were also truly a pleasure to meet and work with together. We wholeheartedly endorse and recommend RSL Outdoor.

RSL handled our pool deck and paver system around our new home in Northern Colorado. John and his team were thoughtful and collaborative with our build team and ultimately delivered the product we had envisioned. After living in our home in Boulder for 30 years it was time to take the look in a new direction! RSL was referred to us and they were wonderful, Starting with John Herron designing our new look which included taking thousands of pounds of flagstone out and replacing with modern products, John designed a look and feel that makes our house POP! Next came the execution, Brian Bauer and his expertise came next. He managed a great team of very professional people to do the heavy lifting. The outcome was more special than we ever imagined. This work was not for the faint at heart but the number of people that walk by our house and stop and comment means that what we hoped for was delivered.

Before we connected with RSL our new house was great but our yard was truly an eyesore: a shabby wasteland with weeds, dead grass, overgrown shrubs, and zero style. To make things worse we live on a busy-ish street across from a golf course, so not only were we having privacy issues but broken windows as well. Until John and RSL Outdoors saved us! They completely transformed our property: Our awful backyard is now a gorgeous, stylish patio/sanctuary that is a pleasure to hang out in. They tore out the giant shrubs our house was cowering behind (in effort to protect itself from the hail of golf balls) and replaced them with marvelous and well-designed sculptural privacy walls that are beautiful to look at as well as protective. We now have a very well-constructed fence around our property and no longer feel like we're living in a fishbowl. Our landscaping is completely redone with the beautiful, xeric plants, trees, and grasses that John and his team advised. Working with RSL has not just substantially increased our property value but has transformed our experience of our home. The addition of the outside spaces that John and his team created for us makes us feel like we doubled our square footage, and the privacy and beauty they created have brought us peace and tranquility — both inside, and out. RSL truly transformed our home's whole vibe. It went from shabby ranch to mid-century show-stopper, and we are so grateful for their vision and execution. Best yet, John and his team were courteous and reliable, and the whole project was extremely well-planned. We stayed on budget and on time. If you're seeking to transform your property, I can't recommend RSL highly enough!

RSL did a terrific job from creating the design all the way through installation of our firepit / grill / pizza oven / patio project. They were great at communicating throughout the project, did high quality work, kept the job site tidy and left us with a beautiful value-enhancing new outdoor space that we will enjoy for years to come. Working with RSL on our landscaping endeavors has been a gift. John’s vision surpassed anything we could have dreamed up for our yard. He patiently worked with us, without pressure, over more than a year to refine drawings and find the right time for execution. What began as a drainage improvement project blossomed into years of partnering with RSL on retaining walls, children’s gardening area, several water features, stone pathways that are simple and others that are more elegant, and optimizing the greenery to keep the space looking natural but under control. As a mountain family, we have a short growing season and intense weather patterns with which to contend. John was realistic with us about what we could reasonably expect to survive! He’s been thoughtful about our requests for keeping wildfire mitigation as an important tenet of the planning process. We continue to bring them back for “one more project” year after year. I can’t say enough good things about the team of skilled laborers executing John’s plan under Lupe’s supervision. From their attention to detail on stonework to their handling of electric lines to back breaking work moving materials to thoughtfully making suggestions to improve drainage even beyond the scope of work – we were genuinely sad when they finished and we said goodbye their thoughtful team! Everyone was respectful, kind, and takes great pride and care in their work. We will continue to work with RSL - already locked them in for our next project together!

From start to finish, we were so impressed with the design, and the implementation of our whole yard project. We needed a new pool surround, as well as a full new landscape design. The whole process was so well done, and so professional. Neighbors stopped by to comment on how beautiful the landscape was. You know it's great when young trick or treater says "we love your yard!" We highly recommend RSL. We have used them on a previous project, and will continue to seek them out when we have any landscape needs.

They were very professional and transparent. There were no surprises during the project despite some difficult spaces to work with. The RSL team fully exceeding our expectations with their work. Prior to embarking on the complete backyard makeover I was skeptical that the space we intended to redo would ever be worthwhile. Now that the work is done I am simply blown away. I wish I would have done this project years earlier as the entire family has been enjoying the space. The RSL crew performed a high quality, professional landscape job based on a plan from an unrelated landscape designer. It was a very large project (for us) and the plan was well executed. Once our contract was signed, it was scheduled for 6 months out. They kept that commitment and completed the job on schedule - well worth the wait. The crew was diligent and respectful of our space (leaving the driveway clear and ensuring the dogs had outside space). Communication with the leaders was always promptly responded to and solutions were provided and discussed. Change orders were also well documented. We were so pleased we’ve asked for them to design and execute our phase 2. Our neighbors are excited about the transformation too.

I hired RSL to totally transform my already beautiful backyard to an absolutely amazing area. There was major demolition, 3 large concrete patios, steps and a large pergola. The way RSL handled my project was amazing and over the top professional. I was involved in all decisions made and was made aware of what the workers would be doing. There were 6 men on the crew that worked on my project for 3 1/2 months, all very thoughtful and respectful. I don’t think a project this size could have gone smoother. What an excellent experience! RSL was professional from the first meeting to the last detail and their communication from the head office, foreman down to the installers was easy, clear and consistent. Our project was quite a large undertaking with lots of details that needed to be worked through as the project progressed that could not be outline in the initial design. RSL did not take any short cuts through the project, in fact we were surprised at the many additional details that they added to make things just a little nicer and more serviceable for the future. We met with almost ten different companies to help us transform our backyard. When we met with RSL, we realized they were clearly the company to go with. During our initial meeting, John helped us envision what was possible. He listened to our needs and presented many options and ideas. I am very pleased with the finished project. The materials were delivered before the project started so we did not have delays with supply chain issues. The focus is on one project at a time and workers show up daily until the project is complete. The team is very professional.

We were looking to transform our unusable, old and tired backyard to a tranquil oasis and RSL made it happen!! We retained RSL Outdoor to design and build our new outdoor patio space. The project involved coordination with multiple sub contractors as well as several weeks of work by the RSL crew. The project was complicated by unseasonably wet, cold spring weather conditions. We could not be more thrilled with the results. We never would have conceptualized the use of space as they did, and the result far exceeded our expectations. The space is functional, beautiful and has added a wonderful new dimension to our house. There were no big surprises or unexpected expenses, and RSL was very professional in keeping us informed about the schedule and project timeline. What impressed us more than anything was the integrity their entire team displayed throughout the project. The work site was cleaned up every day, the workers were friendly and professional and overall we felt that RSL "had our backs". We have worked with RSL on two projects now. Everything looks exactly how we wanted it to look. The quality of their work appears to be excellent. After interviewing several firms, we chose RSL Outdoor to transform our sloping front yard from an overgrown mess of grasses, weeds and rocks into something truly special. John Herron took our general ideas (retaining wall, big boulders, pathway, native plants and trees) and morphed them into a beautiful landscaping design that both suited our home and blended in with the surrounding wild, mountain environment in the Boulder foothills. We starting talking to John at RSL about an idea of how to protect our entertaining area from incoming golf balls. We immediately knew RSL was the right company as they took the approach of collaborating with us vs. telling us what we wanted. John was extremely patient and we loved the ideation/collaboration on our project. Brian was our project manager and was very responsive to our many many questions. The Crew were very respectful and kept the area as clean as they could. We are over the moon with how our Patio, Pergola and Entertainment area turned out. We hired RSL to transform our outdoor space. It was a very large project that included removal of 2 large trees and a *very* substantial but dated and old pergola. We wanted a low maintenance, welcoming outdoor space to enjoy with an outdoor kitchen, a water feature and seating for large gatherings. RSL delivered. They were profession and dedicated. They engaged with us on a great design that fit our needs. They kept us up to date throughout the project. When we hit a snag or two (which is inevitable in this size of a project) they informed us, gave us options and then executed. The project was multi-months and in context of this completely on time. The team was mindful of delivering a high quality job. Change orders were quickly addressed and resolved fast. I highly recommend RSL for your project.

RSL transformed our small yard into a beautiful and fun oasis. We border open space with a narrow area to work with. They achieved our vision of using every bit of space to either enjoy physically or visually. They paid attention to detail on finishes and plantings and created a space that will add to our longevity in our house. Our lovely covered patio (with beetle kill pine ceiling), fireplace and bocce court make it feel party ready whenever we step outside. It is worth noting that we started the design process with RSL after a rough start with another landscaper. John Heron was kind and professional in working through the issues we needed to change. The design process was comfortable and not long winded, and the crew kept us updated on timelines throughout the process. Steve Paige discussed changes easily, and RSL had good advice when we needed it. We would certainly hire them again and recommend them to others.

We hired RSL to replace our patio stone and put in a water feature, fire pit and seat wall. We also had some additional plantings put in plus a concrete edge between the grass and the beds plus new sod in the back yard. Later we decided to upgrade the landscape lighting so that got added on mid-project. John was great with helping with the design. Steve was at the house to over see the project and walk us through the design before they started. Unfortunately our project landed in one of the wettest springs and they were working in rain and snow many of the days. Due to this the project got delayed despite the crew working in pouring rain. They made every effort to keep to the schedule as much as possible. The crew was friendly and kept the area as clean as they could. In the end the project came out beautiful. The fire pit is very warm and functional. The water feature is a nice touch and helps drown out some of the neighborhood noise. It had some pump problems, but they came out and replaced it pretty quickly. The planting choices helped add some dimension and filled in the empty spaces. Some of the plantings didn't quite make it, but we are told they will replace anything that doesn't survive next spring. They were flexible when we had changes or add-ons. Overall, they were great to work with and the end result was as good or better than we expected.

RSL did an excellent job with our entire lot landscape (2/3 acre) for our Longmont CO house. Our choice of RSL started with the first impressions we had of John Herron, our first contact and the designer for our project. He worked closely with us to develop a plan to worked with our vision of the outdoor space usage and our budget. When we were stumped on how to move forward on an aspect of the design, John suggested good ideas that improved the overall design. RSL started the work about when expected this summer and finished it right on time in September 2019. During the construction phase we had several small changes and the RSL team did a good job being responsive to those changes. The crew doing the work was very professional and kept the worksite safe and clean. I have already recommended RSL to colleagues that are looking to do landscaping on their properties.

Ok, let's get one thing straight - RSL rocks the landscaping world! From the moment we started our design process to being in the throes of construction to the final, finishing touches, the team at RSL did the highest quality work I've ever seen for outdoor projects. Sure, there were little bumps along the way - after all this is construction - but every time we had to talk something through, John and Steve made good on their work, their word and their follow-through. One of the most important aspects of any big project is the communication between me (the client) and RSL (the contractor) - and I have to say, their communications were perfect. From emails late at night to text messages during the day, we worked out the details, figured out new ways of getting the job completed to our satisfaction and ensured that what we designed and paid for was done professionally and well. We are so pleased with the outcome of our back patio (pergola, water feature, tiled cement and stone walls/fire it, that we are already considering having them re-do our front driveway and yard. There's no higher compliment in my book than feeling so good about who you picked to do the work that you're ready to hire them again for the next project. Lastly - this is not inexpensive work - but it's very clear that you do in fact get what you pay for. Their work and their professionalism in all regards makes the cost worth it. John and Steve and the entire crew at RSL have been a pleasure to work with! We've had them working on projects at our house for the past 3 years. John's landscape designs are creative and beautiful! He has a great knowledge of local plants that thrive in the front range, and has been great about merging our own ideas with his designs and suggestions. Steve has been fantastic on the coordination and management side of things. The quality of work is outstanding. They're reliable, professional, communicate well, and in general they're people! The crew is hard working, punctual, and highly skilled. They designed and implemented a massive landscaping project for us. The project included a screen porch, deck, built-in grill and cooking area, flagstone patio and walkways, a crushed gravel patio, irrigation system, wood chip play area for our kids, infrastructure for a hot tub, electrical, turf grass, giant boulders, a dry creek bed with a sandstone slab bridge over it, bushes, trees, flowers, mulch, rocks, etc.! This has happened over 3-4 years. We keep hiring them back to implement the next "phase" of our overall plan. We're extremely happy with the results and will use RSL again for future projects! I shopped around a lot before hiring these guys. I can confidently say that we made the right decision! We highly recommend them!

I can not recommend Rock Solid Landscape highly enough! We hired them to take over a project that was not turning out as we had envisioned. Immediately they brought fabulous ideas to the table to help remedy the situation. I had a very specific vision in mind for our pergola but was unable to find any photos that were in any way similar. Instead I described my vision to and he instantly was able to bring my ideas to life. What they have created for us is nothing short of magical. Everyday I wake up feeling like I live in a resort. We have a large backyard and it was a weedy, scraggly mess. RSL helped fashion our ideas into a beautiful back yard escape. The design of the hardscape elements integrated perfectly with the new landscape lines and we have never enjoyed our backyard so much. It is a perfect space to enjoy the beautiful backdrop of the Rocky Mountains! The large pergola we wanted was beautifully executed and a masterpiece.

From start to finish, RSL did a great job transforming our yard into an oasis filled with many different spaces. We wanted a landscape design that blended with a natural area behind our house and gave us a feeling of continuity from inside our home and out into the yard. RSL delivered with a great design that used the terrain of our yard, and native trees, shrubs, grasses and plants that provide privacy without looking out of place. We have done many home remodelling projects over the years but I recall none that were drama-free until we had RSL Outdoor come to create a livable outdoor space in our backyard. Except for inclement weather (when we would receive advance notification that they would be unable to work) the work crew was here every weekday until project completion. They were kind, professional, and kept their workspace and our yard as clean as possible. Their work was impeccable and the things I took mental note of to make sure were addressed were addressed without me saying anything. From the outset, RSL Outdoor was good fit for us as John Herron, the GM and designer came up with the best set of ideas amongst the other companies we'd had over for estimates and design ideas. His personality is well-suited for his role as first-contact with customers: soft-spoken and observant, he listened to our wants and turned them into a reality. If you are looking for a company you can trust implicitly to do the job right, the first time, and with as little to no drama as is feasible, I would look no further than RSL Outdoor. You will not be disappointed. If I have any disappointment at all, it's that they don't do home remodels because I would hire them in a second for any other project we have.

We have had the opportunity to work with RSL on two different projects, the first of which was six years ago. For both projects, the experience was very positive and we were pleased with the entire process from design to final outcome. Most recently, RSL helped us update and expand our landscaping. Their vast knowledge of plant varieties and creative ideas were exactly what we needed to solve some maintenance and erosion problems. What we appreciated the most was how they listened to our requests and were patient with our changes and last minute additions. They immediately responded to and addressed every concern. RSL Outdoor provided initial concept sketches and approx price range for each ( 4 options) RSL designer met with my wife and I and reviewed the designs and provided scope options and material selection ideas , more specific costs and approximate schedule. After we narrowed our ideas and made choices based on their choices RSL submitted final construction plans to city of Boulder , obtained several permits and proceeded to construct the improvements. They built a elegant natural sawn cedar pergola, complete with Tivoli lites, laid porcelain pavers throughout the patio surface, and built a fully functional kitchen with stone countertops and a stainless steel gas grill( high quality) , an outdoor firepit(has) also trimmed with stone and a Basalt stone column water feature in a garden setting. John Herron was very professional and creative and helped us create a beautiful design that I’m sure we will enjoy for years and is a valuable asset to our home. Steve Paige handled all the construction very professionally and in a clean and organized manner. When the city permitting required more foundation he made adjustments quickly and explained the credits as well as adds to his contact. He chose and managed all sub trades well and their work quality is as good as I expect on our commercial projects. I highly endorse this team and would not hesitate to recommend!

RSL finished a major landscape project for us this summer. They were amazing. From design phase to execution, the project was managed very well. The final product is exceptional. The design was very thoughtful and customized to our space and how we were going to use it. Steve and John were always professional, met their deadlines and stayed in budget. Every question that we had along the way was thoughtfully considered and professionally answered. Our job had a significant amount of hardscaping as well as a very large area of planting and irrigation. We will recommend RSL to anyone planning on doing landscaping in the future.

RSL took our rough idea for an outdoor patio and water feature, brainstormed with us about ideas on how to implement it and then came up with a design we loved. As they installed it we saw the design coming to life and once it was completed it was better than we had envisioned. The care they took during all phases of the implementation helped us realize we were getting a quality product. You know they care when they use a level when placing each piece of flagstone. The water feature is awesome and makes the patio a true retreat. During the install they were more than happy to address little issues that I saw.

I am very happy w/ RSL. They designed and executed the landscaping for my new home. It was a hard project on the side of a hill, and they got it done very efficiently. The workers were very respectful while doing the work. I strongly recommend RSL.

They did excellent work overall. Good communication and responsiveness, and always respectful and courteous. We had a few issues that we weren't totally happy with at first, but they continued to fix everything until we were satisfied--even once when we told them it was ok and not to worry about it--they insisted on re-doing it so that we would be perfectly satisfied. They were definitely not the cheapest bid, but it was worth paying for high quality work.

Our project involved replacing a deck with an upper patio, lower patio, outdoor kitchen and outdoor fireplace. The old deck was taken out and a new patio was raised to near house floor level. Everything was done with top quality and their crew were always very respectful. We could not be more pleased with their work and the results.

It’s always nice when excellent design ideas meet attention to detail in the execution. With RSL’s efforts we replaced an aging hot tub enclosure with an open hardscaped patio area which transformed the look and function of our back yard. We hired Rock Solid to redo our back pool area. Unfortunately the first person we hired cut corners and their work was failing after a year and a half. Rock Solid was more expensive but was well worth it to get the project done right. They were very professional and had great ideas to make the area work better than we could have imagined on our own. Would definitely recommend Rock Solid and would use them again.

We would absolutely hire RSL again. They completely redesigned most of our outdoor living space. We needed to replace a crumbling front patio, but the real challenge was the back yard. We have a small yard, and the space had been laid out poorly. We wanted to replace our old wood deck with a flagstone patio, and to optimize the remaining space for lawn and plantings. We needed to level a steeply sloped section of lawn, and add walkways on the north and south sides of our home to optimize access. John and Steve listened carefully to our needs and executed our ideas in a way that exceeded our expectations while remaining within budget. John’s design incorporated curved retaining walls and flowing lines that made the final product exceptionally beautiful as well as functional. John and Steve remained flexible during the project, and gave us good advice when questions arose. The team who did the actual work at our home was excellent. The hardscapes were built to last. The foreman was a true artist with flagstone, paid attention to details, and clearly took great pride in his work. And despite the inevitable chaos of such a major re-do, they were very considerate and kept the project area as clean and usable as possible. They stuck to their timeline. We were told 4-6 weeks, and the project finished in just under 6 weeks. We did encounter a few challenges, as any project will. Getting just the right design (size/shape) on the flagstone steps off our back patio took a few tries, but they re-did them until they were perfect. We discovered our old front patio was set on concrete rather than dirt, so incurred a little extra cost over estimate in order to deal with that. Our freshly poured concrete walkways got rained on, and the color and finish were ruined. To his great credit, John insisted they be re-done, as they did not meet his quality standards. We strongly recommend not choosing hardscape materials out of catalogues, because pictures in catalogues don’t accurately represent product colors. RSL created opportunities for us to see actual samples of materials, so there were no surprises. The end result is gorgeous, and has dramatically improved the appearance, function and enjoyment of our outdoor space!

John, Steve& Brian were excellent to work with. Their design for the project was exactly what we wanted. The project took less time to finish than originally predicted & is more than we ever imagined. They were accommodating to our changes. I would definitely recommend this company for any landscaping job.

RSL provided landscaping for our backyard in our new home. They installed a patio extension to our previous patio and took the backyard from dirt to a beautifully landscaped space. We had a new back yard area installed - fire pit and all. RSL was terrific! From the very beginning with the design all the way through to the finish and details. First, it's stunning. But they made it very easy to understand the process and were very upfront about costs and ways we could save and yet still keep our vision. The crew was amazing, they took care of details always left the site as clean as possible at the end of each day. We couldn't be happier. Now just for spring to arrive so we can enjoy!

We had been working with another landscape design firm initially but decided on working with RSL after meeting with John and reviewing his plan for our space. The design incorporated a BBQ Island, Pergola dining area, water feature and fire pit as main elements which complemented both the house as well as the lot. They also created a raised garden and a retaining wall which tied in the entire space near the house. I should note that design incorporated flood mitigation throughout; our house is on a sloped lot that is backed by a creek. The results exceeded our already high expectations so much so that we added an additional parking area for a camper. The crew was extremely professional and were sensitive to the impact on our neighbors and neighborhood. In fact, other contractors working at the house commented that it was the cleanest job site that they had ever seen - every day the guys would tape off any dangerous areas so that our kids could still access and use the rest of the backyard - which we very much appreciated! They replaced over 1000 sq ft of deck with pavers by raising the grade. The seat walls around the fire pit and seating area create intimate spaces in the overall open design. We could not be happier with the results and have and will continue to recommend RSL to friends and coworkers.

We had an old deck off our kitchen that was rotting and in a very windy area. We hired RSL to build a patio with a 6 foot privacy wall and wind barrier. We now have a wonderful courtyard to entertain and grill in. In addition we had RSL fix some grading issues. Their crew was efficient, extremely hard working, and respectful of neighbors, keeping the disturbance to a minimum.

From the moment we contacted RSL they were professional yet friendly and personable. John listened to our ideas and with creativity and enthusiasm produced a fantastic design. The team worked fast and despite some weather challenges stuck to our time frame. Everyone treated our property with respect and all the workers were a pleasure to deal with. Whenever an obstacle arose it was immediately dealt with even at weekends and at odd hours. We cannot recommend Steve and his company enough. They continue to support us and our maturing garden. We have been very grateful that despite the project being completed, they are always ready with advice on planting and irrigating our new garden in Colorado's unfamiliar climate.

We designed a patio and vegetable garden and RSL offered great design input and options to complete the project within our budget. The project included a flagstone patio area, cultured stone walls, a pergola, lighting, irrigation, storage bench, etc. We had unavoidable rain delays and RSL went out of their way to install a tent in an effort to start and continue working. They were respectful of our property and returned everything to it's original condition when the project was complete.

It is a stressful experience to hire someone and spend the money to get what you want, especially in your home. Then when the project starts, maybe it isn't what you thought originally. We had the pleasure of working with RSL on a very large new build in the foothills of Boulder, Co. RSL produced a full hard and softscape and did a wonderful job. The moss rocks and flagstone patio was gorgeous and the plantings are perfect. RSL provided a spectacular fire pit and jacuzzi tub which they incorporated into our natural surroundings. Another great aspect of RSL is their creative design initiatives. Steve, John and Mel came up with solutions to make our landscaping blend into the environment and add functional ideas to the existing structure. The companies integrity and willingness to do whatever it takes attitude deserved a 5 star. Their time management projections were a little off- which is why we gave them a 4 star. RSL rebuilt our steps leading to our back door from the driveway up two retaining walls. John was very responsive to my initial inquiry, calling me back within a day. He came to our property to look at the project, suggested a couple ideas, and listened to ours. Within two weeks, he provided us an estimate, complete with drawings, proposed materials, and plant suggestions. Once RSL started our job, the crew was dedicated to our project every day 100%. The workers were professional and hard-working. They finished within about a week of their initial time estimate. Steve was great about checking in with us every few days to see if we were satisfied, and what we'd like changed or different. At the final walk through, we addressed the few remaining punch list items and RSL took care of them right away. Our landscape looks beautiful now.

Rock Solid Landscapes, owned by Steve Paige and managed by John Herron and Chris Bauer is a top notch landscape company. From the beginning of our project on 15 October 2013 until the final day on 15 November 2013 there was daily communication with Steve or one of the landscape crew. Our project involved tearing out existing fence, rock stairs, flagstone patio areas, and concrete patio. A new path area was installed connecting to new Stone-Bilt steps with an extensive area of new stone built patio. A Veneer Stone BBQ island with a gas grill was installed. As well as a rectangular fire pit and a rectangular bar. A rock water feature and an led lighting package were added. Trees, shrubs, grasses, and plants were added to provide privacy and color. The project was finished by the estimated deadline. Steve Paige was always available to answer questions either in person or by phone/text. The entire crew was professional and courteous.

They installed a rock wall, irrigation system, lawn, and other landscaping and hardscaping. They were professional, timely, and the yard has been transformed. I would gladly work with them again.

Complete rework of backyard including full design patio construction, drainage improvements, upgrade of irrigation systems, and landscaping. Additionally, design included sod replacement with xerioscape elements.

My husband and I recently renovated our house which took over a year and we were constantly running into issues or arguing with those that we hired so when we began looking for a landscaping company to complete the look of our home, we were cautious. RSL Outdoor Living turned out to be the best company that we hired (by far). The process, from beginning to end, was handled professionally and the final outcome was extremely well done… we could not be happier that we chose them over everyone else. They were the silver lining at the end of our project. They went above and beyond. Their employees are incredibly nice and considerate men. They had a project manager that checked in multiple times a day to make sure the project was going along well and as discussed. Whenever we had a question, they got back to us immediately and were incredibly respectful, honest and fair. I can't say enough good things about this company. We will need more work done in the future and we will not be interviewing any other companies - we've finally found a company in Boulder that honors and understands professionalism.

It may be a bit unconventional to write a review prior to work being started at a residence, but we believe the time leading up to a project is just as important. We have been working with RSL Outdoor Living for a couple of months designing our backyard living space. So far, we have nothing but wonderful things to say about them. From the moment we met with John Herron, of RSL, we knew this was going to be a great project. His design ideas, knowledge, professionalism, and willingness to work with our pool contractor set him far above the competition. We truly appreciate how much time, and care he has taken leading up to the start of our project, and we are very excited for them to begin!

My experience with RSL has been a very positive one. They are knowledgeable, while remaining amenable to all changes which I frequently added throughout the entire landscaping process. We called RSL early this year because our front landscaping, sidewalk and porch needed a facelift. Our sidewalk had cracked and settled away from the concrete porch and our landscaping consisted of ragged looking junipers. We had worked with RSL before on our back patio area and were extremely pleased with the result, so we knew that we would get a well designed, professional proposal from them. We were not disappointed! Our project began in mid July when they tore out the existing beds and cracked sidewalk. The new design incorporated new plants, perennials and bushes. The crowning touch was beautiful porcelain tile that was overlaid on the newly poured concrete sidewalk and porch. This tile - called Landmark Frontier American Stone - is durable, non-slip, all weather and ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! It has entirely upgraded the outdoor appearance of our home. Our experience with RSL was once again exceptional and I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to upgrade the landscaping around their home.

RSL constructed a front patio/porch at our residence in 2013. This was a project we had envisioned for many years, so it was important that we select a firm capable of translating our ideas into reality. John Herron understood our design parameters immediately. During on site consultation John educated us about the realities involved in actually translating our wants into reality based on limitations and attributes of the site. He quickly generated a design which was refined several times on site prior submitting a bid for the actual work. Once construction started, Steve communicated with us, sometimes daily, so that we understood exactly what would be happening, and when. Refinements and inevitable changes or problems were handled immediately and without drama. The RSL crews were on the job every work day from beginning of the day to end of project. They were timely, polite, and tidy. Their workmanship was impeccable, and truly astonishing.

When we finally got around to professionally landscaping the yard of our custom built house in the foothills near Lyons, Colorado RSL Outdoor Living was one of several firms we interviewed. There was no comparison between the creativity and professionalism of RSL versus the other firms. RSL had great suggestions which they executed on in an amazing fashion. We know enjoy the exterior around our home every bit as much as we enjoy the interior. The distinction between "interior" and "exterior" areas of our home now blur because of the integrated manner in which they designed and developed the outdoor living areas. RSL significantly improved our overall enjoyment of our home!

Working with John and his company was a delight. They have the talent to hear your concerns and the staffing to make it happen quickly. All of our concerns were addressed and changes we requested were done promptly without excuses or conditions. No hidden surprises in deadlines or quality of work. If only ALL of my contractor experiences in Boulder has gone so smoothly. I'd give an unqualified 4 star recommendation for their work!
