NYC's Sophisticated Interior Design Firm

With more than 20 years of experience, Sara Bengur Interiors, the New York-based design firm, designs sophisticated, warm spaces that reflect the multi-cultural background of its founder, Sara Bengur. Sara, the daughter of a Turkish economist with the International Monetary Fund, she spent her formative years in Washington DC; Istanbul, Turkey; and Maine. Sara has completed residential interiors in Manhattan, and the Hamptons, New York; Connecticut; Vermont; Massachusetts; Maine; Miami, Florida; and the French West Indies. Her projects range from new construction to remodeling. Sara starts by understanding clients' needs in order to create a comfortable and elegant interior that reflects that client's personality and lifestyle in every aspect of the interior. From custom upholstery and window treatments to antique textiles and one-of-a-kind pieces discovered here and abroad, Sara and her associates select or craft each detail of every interior specifically for its future occupants. The result is interiors of great visual depth, complexity, and personality but also great ease, comfort, and accessibility.

I have completed two projects with Sara Bengur. My first project was a new condo in South Florida. Sara was able to create a modern feel that suited the environment with out having a slick glossy empty feeling. Her travels and interest in cultures from around the world added texture, warmth and a unique character to the space, while also incorporating her knowledge and selection of beautiful and special items that made our vacation home a place that is inviting and relaxing for our family and guests. My husband and I were so in love with the work that Sara did in Florida, that we asked her to do the same for our two bedroom apartment in New York. Sara was faced with the challenge of finding space and storage in a small residence, while creating a sanctuary from the busy life of the city. Our apartment is peaceful and calm, and holds a lot of character that is distinctive to Sara Bengur Interiors.

SKOLNICK Architecture & Design Partnership

I am an architect in NYC and have known and collaborated with Sara Bengur for over 11 years. We have worked together on a range of projects including a NY townhouse, and a country-house in upstate NY that involved major renovation of multiple buildings and the creation of a family compound on a large site (see cover story of House and Garden from May 2007 - Couture Cabin). Her involvement in these projects has resulted in a joyful collaboration that I have found to be intensely creative, professionally respectful and fun and the best part is - our mutual clients get to be the happy beneficiaries of her thoughtful, interesting and personal vision. Sara creates individually conceived, beautifully detailed and well-crafted interior environments that are inspiring, colorful and uniquely reflective of each client-situation. Sara is a joy to work with. She's respectful to your ideas and budget. She is fluid in her thinking, always bringing a special nuance to the project; she does not do cookie cutter design. She is also a great colorist with fantastic visualizing skills. Recently redoing a guest bedroom is our second project together. Again, I am very pleased with the outcome. Not only does the room function as I was hoping but the overall design has a wonderful sense of completeness. She has not created a room where things are just put in a place but, has created a space where the furnishings are all in a wonderful relationship to each other.

Sara Bengur is not only a great designer, colorist and innovator but most importantly is a great big open heart. The process of design needs a caring designer so Sara provides her compassion and bright intelligence to all she does. I highly recommend her after 15 years of cooperation.

I have worked with Sara and her team for 10+ years on high-end residences. As an architect I have worked closely with Sara Bengur Interiors on developing and executing projects with high level of design and details.
