Susan Sutherlin Designs

Susan is an incredibly talented designer and she did a beautiful job on our home in Carlsbad. We moved in with basically no furniture because we came from a much smaller place, and we didn't even know where to start. After interviewing four designers, Susan immediately won me over with her warm personality and excellent taste, and we hired her to design our family room, front living room/dining room combo, and master bedroom. From the start of the project, Susan guided us expertly. She first asked us about all our preferences made amazing suggestions that I never would have thought of. But she also very much respected our particular tastes and was sure to check in on everything. After working with us closely on initial color, paint and furniture selections (which included visits to the furniture store and to our home), she came to us with two design presentations that were incredibly professional, with glossy photo mockups and a list of accompanying items so we had a great idea of how everything would look and cost before we made final purchasing decisions. We purchased some wonderful furniture through her that I never would have been able to find elsewhere, and she also worked hard to honor our budget constraints by trying to balance our investment pieces with more affordable accessories. She also added nice touches when accessorizing like subtly including nods to our family's interests and hobbies in the artwork and accessories. The final installation day was nothing short of thrilling. Susan and her team handled everything for us -- we left the house empty in the morning, and when we came back in the afternoon it was like something out of a magazine, with everything set up to perfection. I can't even believe this is my house. I would unequivocally recommend Susan to anyone considering working with a designer -- she is the utmost professional, has impeccable taste, and is a joy to work with. Once we have a budget to work on additional rooms in the house, I would definitely hire Susan again.

We contacted Susan because she represented a specific brand of shades we wanted. She arrived on time and did not rush us through the process of selecting the fabric for 3 different rooms. Susan gave great suggestions and also handled having a fabric valance made using our own fabric and custom design. The installer she used was also great to work with and really knew what he was doing. As a result, we have beautiful window treatments (roller shades and roller track panel systems) that are not only functional but enhance the look of our home. We enjoyed working with Susan and would not hesitate to use her services again.

I recently assisted Susan with selections for the Mohns project. She is professional, very organized, good eye for color and knows what she wants. Very decisive. Susan gave us a ton of info and good ideas on the initial consult. We pretty much did everything she recommended. We were skeptical about a couple of her ideas, but they all turned out great. Susan then came up with a full design for our living room, den, and dining room. We were not easy customers to deal with, but Susan was professional and patient throughout the process. One of the things I appreciated the most was her honesty. She was up front about how she does business, she was open to ideas but willing to tactfully let us know when our ideas might not be that good. The products we purchased through her are very good quality and look great. I would definitely recommend her services.

Susan helped us decorate our family room. We didn't want to spend a lot, and she was very understanding of our budget. In the end, she recommended the perfect couch for our small area. It is fashionable, yet functional. To compliment the couch she also helped us pick out the perfect rug for our couch area. Whenever we had questions, Susan was quick about returning our calls or emails. Highly recommend!

I had just purchased an older home that needed updating. I hired Susan to provide color and product choices throughout all my rooms. Besides helping with flooring, she was able to help me with kitchen cabinetry, paint colors, electric light fixtures, and tile choices during my renovation. Everything worked well together and when I sold the home, it sold in just days at a time when most were taking weeks. The home was warm and inviting thanks to Susan's recommendations.
