Todd has been a pleasure to work with. We asked him for help in designing plans for a renovation for our 1960s home. The existing home had a one-car garage, and we wanted to expand that to a two-car garage and add an extra room for a second work-from home office, as both my husband and I work remotely. After reviewing our lot’s survey, it was discovered that we were too close to the property line to expand the current garage, which necessitated putting the new garage on the other side of the house. This added another layer of complexity to the project, as we now needed to incorporate the existing single-car garage space into our home as usable living area. Todd listened to our ideas for repurposing the space and provided good recommendations of his own. As others have mentioned, he worked well with our builder and quickly answered questions from the county permit office, expediting the permit approval process. We would have no hesitation in using Todd for our next project.

Todd has been awesome to work with. We asked him for help designing a 2 phase addition that would include work on all sides of our existing house and every floor of the house. He has helped us through the entire design process, answered all our questions, made very good recommendations and answered questions from our builder and the county permit office. Todd is the architect for our dream home. After meeting with him, my husband and I knew that he was the one to make our vision a reality. He is passionate, patient, and innovative. He was quickly able to take our ramblings about timber framing and passive house techniques to create a design that suits our needs. In the Fall of 2020, we hired Todd to design an addition to our home. We thought we had a strong idea of what we wanted to tie the addition into our existing home with like and kind elements. Todd impressed us with the design and creativity that he brought to our project. His expertise and professionalism took it to the next level. He was responsive to our questions and feedback and has been patient with us as we worked through ideas to get the design we wanted. His attention to detail in every aspect of the project was fantastic and enables the success of our project. We are currently in the construction phase and it is already apparent that the plans Todd developed are exactly what is needed. Todd is helping us design our dream home, and we couldn't be more grateful to have found him! From our very first meeting, he has been supremely professional, responsive, and helpful. We presented him with the slightly more unique situation of my husband being the one who will be GCing our build, and Todd has been patient and so informative throughout this whole process. We knew we wanted to design a green house, being guided by Passive House principles, and Todd's depth of knowledge in that regard has been cruicial throughout the process. I've been so impressed with his keen creative eye and artistic ability to take our loosely constructed concepts and vague ideas, and turn them into a feasible reality. His attention to detail has been great and gives me tons of confidence that he really will have thought of everything as we near receiving our final plans. We are on the cusp of getting the final design submitted for permitting, and are gearing up for construction to begin in the relatively near future, and I just can't wait until we get to live inside of our dream house!

We’ve been working with Todd Willoughby since early in 2018. We had purchased a piece of land along the Chesapeake Bay and wanted to build a small but thoughtfully designed contemporary garden cottage for our retirement. After speaking with a number of architects we chose Todd and we’ve been very happy with that decision. Over several months, we worked have closely with him through the several design phases, culminating in a very complete set of construction documents, that we are now using for bidding. Throughout the process we’ve found Todd to be personable, smart, perceptive and creative. He’s been able to translate our ideas into working drawings that one of the contractors noted were called the most detailed he’d ever seen. Todd has captured our vision for an environmentally friendly house with solar and rain water harvesting. We have met with him many times talk through the many details, choices, and constraints you inevitably face. He’s done all the coordination needed with the other specialties – the engineers, surveyor, and solar energy firm. Having enjoyed this first part of the collaboration, we’re hiring Todd to help us through the bid evaluations and construction admin phases. The best recommendation would be our actual house, but until we get there we can say Todd has done an excellent and professional job getting us this far, and we look forward to working with him through to a completed project.

I would like to share our story (as a thank you note to Todd) We had a 3 bedroom house, and needed an extra room. Invited quite a few contractors and other architects but no one seemed to know what to do on a reasonable budget, and it was very depressing... Then Todd came, and everything clicked! Now we have a large beautiful new room (lifted the roof up), + other useful modifications in the house that we would not have otherwise. Todd's work was of an exceptional quality, on schedule (!!!), very reasonably priced (compared to the others), and no headaches with getting whatever permits from the county. And, he is a very easy person to work with. Highly recommend!

Todd Willoughby is a very talented architect. We have had the pleasure of working with him to design our custom home in Middleburg, Virginia. Todd is extremely knowledgeable about residential and commercial construction. This is our third custom home, and we have worked with several other architects on various projects through the years. My husband is in commercial construction and has worked with numerous architects in the past forty years. The biggest difference with Todd is that we felt as though he wanted to design the house that WE wanted, not the house that he wanted to design for us. He listened to every suggestion and made every change we recommended to design our home exactly the way we envisioned. His step by step design process allowed us to see our ideas come together. We were able to see whether we were achieving the look we had in mind. Todd gave us very helpful suggestions. He responded to every question and email almost immediately. He told us exactly what to expect and when to expect it. His 3D model was amazing and unbelievably helpful in helping us to actually "experience" the sizes of the rooms, windows and many other little details. It gave a perspective that is just not possible to get from a 2D drawing. Todd was even able to put the civil engineer's grading plan on 3D along with the house and property. We have never seen an architect be able to do this. It helped immensely. We could not have been more pleased with Todd Willoughby's skills, knowledge, responsiveness, professionalism and ability to deliver exactly what we wanted by the date promised. His pricing for his services is very competitive and reasonable. He is truly a nice guy. We look forward to working with Todd again in the near future.
