Julian provided an excellent service and turned work around fantastically quickly. He listened to our needs and provided a solution to meet them. He took our ideas and successfully applied his own knowledge and design flair to make them a reality. In this instances and when we where not sure what direction to go, he gave us information to help us decide and challenged us to challenge ourselves and take the bolder choices.

Moving into a rather decrepit thatched cottage in Sussex, I needed an architect who was prepared to work with the technical issues that occur in such properties. An online search and I found Joy Architects where Julian expressed much interest in my project. Whilst working on drawings he was happy to deal with my questions and ideas and was good at explaining problems that might (and often, did occur). He could understand and interpret my ‘dream’! He was generally punctual with producing the technical drawings and often visited the site, especially at times of interest, such as trying to find the best way of linking the original upstairs route through to the new building at the back whilst having to negotiate the large chimney in the centre of the property. Not only this, but Julian came in under budget. I would thoroughly recommend Joy Architects to those looking for an unusual project.

Joy Architects provided a beautiful and sympathetic design package to our complex and large period home. As well as explaining the limitations we were working within, Julian created wonderful design solutions. His imaginative design included a glazed central atrium and roof lantern ideas to cover what had been an ugly external courtyard which sat in the centre of our house. This has created a fabulous light and space solution, uniting and transforming the whole internal space of our house. The house now feels spacious, light and well appointed. Two years later we still love every inch of the house and that's due to the foresight of Julian's understanding our needs. Julian assisted us when the budget started to grow in where the best options were to spend our money. He comes highly recommended and is professional, personable, approachable and offers great value for money. Thank you again.

I have no hesitation in recommending Joy Architects to any prospective customer. My experience was excellent – great service without fault, and very good value for money. If I need to employ an Architect again I would engage Joy Architects without question. Julian offered a flexible and scalable service from initial consultancy, through design and application, and even including project management of the build, according to our needs and budget. Our project was quite modest in scale, nonetheless the company were thorough and professional in every way, paying great attention to all the details, and showing full understanding of the many regulations, procedures and formalities that had to be observed for planning and building compliance. Joy Architects made the entire process very simple and easy to understand, explaining all the steps in plain English, providing valuable advice while interpreting our wishes and needs to deliver a design we were very happy with, and delivering or facilitating the planning applications, engineering drawings, surveys and consultancy with the builders and various other agencies, so that the project ran smoothly, on time and without stress.

Julian designed my plans for a kitchen/ulitity and bedroom extension. He helped project manage and was highly professional and great to work with. I can highly recommend his firm.
