Classic and Contemporary North London Based Interior Designer

Helene Bowden Design offers bespoke interior design services to residential clients in the London area. Working in a nuanced and instinctive way, she aims to create authentic interiors with lasting character that truly reflect the people that live in them. She is also a strong believer in being sensitive to overall architectural context. While her children were small, Helene worked for a number of London based architects and refurbished properties of her own which ignited a passion for interior design. Developing this into a profession was a logical step forward, and in 2016 she gained a Diploma from KLC School of Design and founded her own practice. Helene's role in a project is to develop interiors in a highly collaborative way with her clients, guiding them through the process from start to finish. She has a number of trade professionals that she works with to ensure the best outcomes on workmanship, and a strong network of suppliers for finishing materials and furnishings. For larger projects she will work in a team of design and construction professionals.

I asked Helene to help me with the interior design of my house as soon as I moved. I really wanted it to feel like home as soon as possible, and she took the time to understand my kind of style, the colours I liked and the budget involved. Helene is a true professional and she has a great sense of style and pays attention to fine detail. She works hard for you on each project to ensure that you are completely satisfied and is always contactable. Would definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking for an interior designer.

Helene is very easy to work with and is extremely professional. She has a wonderful eye for space and colour and her joinery solutions are both innovative and practical. I needed to redesign a large ensuite bathroom and wanted to use more tiling and increase the storage I had. Helene responded brilliantly to the brief. She listened carefully to my ideas, incorporated them where appropriate, and suggested things I hadn't thought of to maximise space and aesthetics. She is meticulous in her attention to detail both on the design and the costing side, and my bathroom came in on budget and on time. She has a great team of suppliers and craftsmen and the lighting, mirrors and bathroom hardware she recommended are all of beautiful quality yet reasonably priced. Most importantly, we are absolutely delighted with the finished room. It looks stunning, is practical to use, and the storage solutions Helene's joiner created have made daily life tidier and more streamlined. Thanks, Helene!

Helene helped me transform a recently purchased three-bedroom Edwardian apartment into a stunning home I am absolutely delighted with. We worked with Helene for over a year to refurbish and extend our Victorian flat, and she has been brilliant throughout. Helene helped us achieve the optimal layout for the new extension and plan the rest of the space in 3D. Helene has been a massive help in terms of both the organisational element with liaising between various decorators and builders but also has impeccable taste. The finishing standard based on her recommendations on furniture so far has been fantastic and Helene has a great eye for detail and space planning when it comes to layout too. She's helped with an entire redesign of the existing master bedroom and bathroom working with her trusted contractors each step of the way. She provides regular updates and always presents a range of options down to every last detail.

After discussing our project with a few other interior designers, it was very clear that Helene stood out from the rest in terms of knowing her craft but also being warm and approachable. Helene has been a dream to work with, taking the time to understand our needs but also pushing our boundaries so that we were able to consider different ideas and aesthetics. Helene has a timeless style but knows how to add unusual eye catching features that have led to a very seamless feel throughout our home. Helene designed a built-in bookcase that joined two separate areas in our house and created a new room out of the space - that is warm and inviting, chic and comfortable. She also helped source all the fittings and accompanying furniture, rugs and lamps. She brought so much more to our ideas than we could have imagined. She has a great eye and sense of style, but more notably she is a true craft and drafts woman with incredible attention to detail.

We worked with Helene to refurbish our 3-bedroom flat. She was very quick to understand our requirements and suggest a plan of action - including a builder to run the project. What Helene excels at is her sense of style and her design recommendations. She suggested and sourced all materials, furniture and accessories according to our brief and budget. She also designed our fitted wardrobes and kitchen and managed their installation. Helene was very good at adapting to our taste and would make further recommendations if we were not 100% convinced at first. We are so pleased with the final result as it fits the brief we gave her and she allowed us to bring to life what we had in mind and had seen on Pinterest boards.

Without Helene's input I would not have been able to complete my project (two bedroom, two-story garden maisonette) to such a high standard. From the start she listened to what I wanted. She was collaborative, hardworking and she kept a close eye on my budget even as we made big changes midway through, such as ripping out a problematic staircase. Excellent drawings and 3D images were crucial in the early stages of the development She has edgy design flair and from the outset had a real sense of how the overall project would look. And then she tied everything together with wonderful (mostly subtle) elements. She chased down important details with the contractors to make sure jobs were completed to the design/standard that had been agreed. Big projects are stressful but Helene always kept a cool head and was responsive. Grab her while you can!

I contacted Helene Bowden to design my large Victorian flat. The brief was new floor and book shelves in the living room, two new bathrooms and a utility room. I am very happy with the result. The builders were excellent, Helene had worked with them before, they liaisoned with her constantly and she was frequently on site. She was very professional, full of great suggestions and went that extra mile. Highly recommended!

The project started off as one room but very soon became our whole home - she's incredibly talented, knows how to work with difficult spaces and introduce interesting colours.
