Diego Gutierrez works collaboratively with his clients to understand and bring alive their ultimate architectural vision for living and work spaces. To each of his projects, he brings the principles of sustainable design, green construction and environmental awareness, and the results of his work are found throughout the Berkshires and Great Barrington, Mass., nearby New York state, and Northwestern Connecticut. Born in Bogota, Colombia, he immigrated to New York City at age of nine, attended high school in Manhattan, and graduated in 1987 from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, with a Bachelor in Architecture. He worked for various architectural firms in New York until moving to the Berkshires in 2000. Now in his own practice, he works on a wide range of residential and commercial projects in the tri-state area. Diego’s love of architecture extends to education: he teaches children about the art and science of architecture through various design workshops at local schools, libraries and community centers. His workshops have been funded partly through grants from the Berkshire Taconic Foundation and the Boston Foundation for Architecture. He is also on staff at Flying Cloud Institute, a year-round educational arts and sciences camp serving children and teens. Diego lives in Housatonic, Massachusetts, a village in the Town of Great Barrington. He has been a member of various local committees, including the Energy Committee, which was instrumental in gaining state designation for Great Barrington as a “Green Community.” He has been a member of the Steering Committee of Friends of the Great Barrington Libraries, an all volunteer group dedicated to supporting and promoting the libraries in Great Barrington. He is assisting the Parks Committee of Great Barrington in developing a Master Plan for the Housatonic Village Green.

Demetriades + Walker is located in the Northwest hills of Connecticut. The work is primarily residential, spirited by an innovative approach to modernism and site integration. A site and client responsive approach is fundamental to all projects. Stylistically, our work embraces innovative modernism, as well as the vernacular tradition; we believe the choreography of light, volume and spatial progression transgresses stylistic labels. We research and select materials for sustainability and for harmony with our architectural objectives, balancing dynamic and contemplative aspects. For over twenty years, our architecture firm has taken an innovative approach to modernism while embracing the land, our clients' needs and the vernacular tradition. The timeless aspects of good design - light, volume, space, and sustainability - are the foundation of our practice.

Kate Johns, AIA, is an architectural firm specializing in new traditional architecture and historic preservation. Established in 1986 in the Hudson Valley Region of New York State, we concentrate on classic country house architecture, whether formal or informal. Circulation, the experience of moving through interior spaces and from interior to exterior spaces, as well as light and the framing of views are our primary design concerns. Attention to the rules of proportion and classical detailing are also important as is the building's relationship to the site and to its architectural context. "Burr and McCallum fitted the house to the land like moss to a rock.” ~ Robert Campbell, FAIA, architecture critic for the Boston Globe "Frank Gehry meets the Shakers" is how former Dean of the Yale Architecture School, Thomas Beebe, once described our work. These two quotes describe what we strive for in our architecture. It must start with a strong connection with the site: physically, historically, and emotionally. And from that beginning emerges invention. We love to use old materials in innovative ways. We update traditional construction methods that have proven their worth over centuries with new materials and current energy conservation techniques. History is our friend and our inspiration. Franklin Andrus Burr, FAIA, received his B. A. from Williams College and his M. Arch. from the Yale School of Architecture (1970). Andy is a registered architect in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Ann Kidston McCallum, FAIA, received her B. A. from McGill University and her M. Arch. from Yale School of Architecture (1980). She currently teaches architectural design at Williams College. Ann is a registered architect in Massachusetts and New York. Ann and Andy are both Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA). Becoming a Fellow is considered a great honor; fewer than 2 percent of all registered architects in the United States are elected to fellowship in the AIA. Of these, less than 15% are design fellows, putting Burr and McCallum Architects in an honored status among less than one half of one percent of all American architects. David Shaughnessy, Partner, has been a vital part of the firm’s success for nearly three decades. David is in charge of construction documents and project management, collaborating with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients.
