Forgive me. What did you want when you bought it? The location! It's a very traditional suburban style home that HAPPENS to be located at the beach..
You are saying, that no matter where you'd live, city or shore, a very casual , light, airy, sea, sand feeling is what you like. You knew that when you bought this, and you bought it how long ago?
You plan on keeping it I assume?
For the moment, you ditch the lumpy micro fiber seating I see in the pictures and furnish. Rugs, upholstery and paint .......can proceed while you think about the kitchen.
First ? The flooring. Do you love it ? I think it is laminate, and I doubt you can refinish. If you like it keep it and PAINT the cabinets, change counters /splash. Or? You gut the kitchen. You asked "budget friendly" That means WHAT exactly? 20 grand, less ,more etc.
Life and homes are not Amazon .com. It does not need to be BEACH beautiful a month after purchase.. You wanted this? It's not what you bought...: )

When someone says " It is not at all our style" and then follows with " budget friendly ideas please..." ? Budget friendly means different things for different people. She posted the former condo which she loved. The "beachywas a wicker chair, seashell decor, etc AND a white kitchen
We can't answer the budget question, but changing ( drastically ) a home that is lovely/suburban/not beachy is just a question of how far you want to go , to be thrilled.
It's the internet, and she got my answer, no differently than if I were standing in that space.
.

My son, who lives 8 minutes away, is my check in service. 😊 He texts me several times a day, even when he's at work.
Eta: DS got me an Apple Watch, which is set up to alert him if I have a medical emergency. My iPhone is set up the same way. Also, he will usually call or stop by on his way home from work.

I asked my sister how they are dealing with her husband falling a few times and she mentioned he now wears a SmartWatch.

Define "Senior"
Mobile? How senior in age? Frail? Sturdy? Mentally vibrant? Social? Isolated and a more retiring sort?
A daily are you alive and feeling well.......is different than the possible what if's.
If a check in the am, what of a fall mid day or in the dead of night? Will she wear and use a simple wrist monitor? Would you be far better off in the long run with security cameras in strategic places, where YOU can monitor from any distance on your phone? Not to pry, or invade privacy, just to know she/he/they are safe.
A wake up moment leaves a lot of "other" time.

Not sure the book-match is worth it once you remove half the pattern ...

@s m, thank you for pointing that out. Very true, I was answering based on my almost 11 year experience with Belvedere, one of the hardest varieties of soapstone. In all those years, I’ve only had the tiniest chip at the sink edge, where a cast iron pan hit it during cleaning. That I disguised with a black Sharpie marker.
The one major scratch, where years ago, DH dragged a cast iron pan off the rangetop grate onto the counter, I simply rubbed the area with a green Scotch pad, and applied mineral oil. A few days later, the scratch couldn’t be found.
Btw, I’m impressed you remembered the variety of my soapstone, as I didn’t mention it in this thread!

@s m, ah yes, I recall the discussion about enhancing sealants, which are a no-no for M. Teixeira clients, like me. Different strokes. I much prefer the completely matte appearance of Teixeira’s finished product, and letting patina form naturally.
I do hope the OP finds a solution, and returns to tell us if Mamagoose’s suggestion worked.

Megan, you might try contacting your fabricator for any repair suggestions they might have.

Hit it with a color matched Sharpie before overfilling it with super glue. Scrape it to flush then refinish the area to match. You may pull your glue out when scraping. If that happens a second time, you may have to make the divot a little deeper.

I don’t have laminate floors, but I have to tell you…it would be better if your wording wasn’t a command. Adding a simple, ”please” to ”show me your laminate floors with wood cabinets”, would change the feeling of your request.
I’ll add…it’s never a good idea the install imitation wood next to real wood. Just makes the imitation look more fake.

Yep - wording is a turn off!

At the least, use waterproof laminate flooring. We have a rental house with laminate installed throughout by the previous owner. Pretty much destroyed in the kitchen. Wear layers scraped off under office chairs elsewhere.

I was surprised by how light my Santa Rita soapstone turned out to be. And I am so besotted with the color... like a spruce or eucalyptus... frosted almost.

What do you like better? It’s your kitchen and you’re the one that’s going to have to look at it on a daily basis.

River White is a stunning granite. If you get polished River White you will have the ultimate - in beauty and strength,
I can’t imagine buying “on looks” if you are referring to any quartz. What looks? Also, face facts- you and husband are likely not going to regularly use trivets.
I’m a vegan and I do a lot of stir fries. Although, I don’t use tons of oil, etc. I have no idea what you are referring to, in terms of the problematic maneuvering. It’s easy enough to put the pan either back on the cooktop or on a trivet on the counter until it cools off. Also, with a stainless sink, there is no problem with just putting the pot/pan in the sink for a few minutes, until it's cool enough to run water into it. And I don’t turn the water on full blast... I just run a little bit of water into it at first, in case it might still splatter.

If easy to follow habit is cooking are hard to follow? You don't buy anything for looks. You can't set a hot pan on an unused burner? Are you a catering service or feeding a dozen people?
Surely you can manage a silicone mat on the counter top?

Good questions for your builder and his painter.

Interesting, and quite amusing that you’d hired related cabinet makers for different projects, without knowing! Neither of them will know you’ve inquired about the dw panel, unless you tell them. 🤔
I’m curious…why did you remove the panel from the SZ fridge and change to stainless? My SZ is paneled, and much prefer how it blends in with my cabs, and doesn’t show fingerprints. You could’ve had a new panel made to match the custom cabs.

I returned to the appliance store this morning and ordered the Bosch 800 d/w in finger-print resistant SS with the pocket door (recessed door). The price was slightly lower than last week, and the salesman offered me some perks -- such as free delivery and installation.
I decided on the pocket door to avoid the temptation of hanging a towel on a bar handle. I think wet towels hanging against the SS front panel may be the culprit for my having to continuously clean rust-like smudges off the door.
Neither cabinet guy showed up to give me a quote for a wood panel. After I read the installation instructions for a custom panel, I realized that it would likely cost me an extra $400 for the wood panel plus $100 for a SS handle. And the custom panel work would be "out of sync" in terms of replacing other kitchen appliances in the future.
@darbuka,
I do not remember why I switched from paneled to SS on the SZ doors, but I admit that I like the SS better, and the doors are easier to open. My 2015 team (GC, cabinet-builder, and designer) all encouraged me to make the switch to SS on the SZ.

Sounds like a good idea... Good luck with it.

I wouldn’t make an expensive decision like that, based on a future resale. In all likelyhood, whoever purchases your home will renovate to suit their taste.

It depends on your local real estate market. If there are many new homes in your area with 10 ft ceilings with cabinets to the ceiling, then it would make sense to upgrade your home with similar specs.
If most homes are of the same vintage as yours and they all have soffits, then it might not matter if you keep shorter cabinets.
As a buyer, I would be annoyed that you had a newer kitchen and kept the soffits with short cabinets. Depending on the market, I might make an offer that would take into account having to remove the soffit and get new upper cabinets.
You aren't going to please everyone!
Maybe show us a photo of the kitchen so we can see how the soffits "feel" in the actual space.
Also how big is the kitchen? Getting rid of the soffits will have a bigger visual impact in a smaller kitchen.

" I am remodeling my kitchen and replacing almost everything but not changing the layout, no walls will move. "
We have remodeled 2 kitchens without moving any walls, but we absolutely made layout changes. In the first one - a U-shaped kitchen with the sink in the middle - we moved both the range and the fridge away from the corner, greatly improving both storage and work space in the kitchen.
Chances are there are places you can improve with minor tweaks to the layout, without significantly changing walls or appliance placement.
As for your question: in both our kitchens, the top of the uppers are 8' from the floor, in spite of vaulted ceilings in both cases. I would always recommend cabinets to an 8' ceiling; possibly 9', depending on the situation. But 10' is WAY up there. Cabinets are too expensive to install if they are not realistically ever going to be used.
Pictures would help a lot!

Now is the time to consider replacing the over the cooktop microwave with a true exhaust fan…especially with gas. I’m not a fan of full slab backsplash (personal opinion) and I definitely would not do quartz there with a gas cooktop.

I'll echo others and say that 24", generally, is too narrow for more than a couple of pots if you don't want to stack or cram them together. I've had two 36" pot drawers in both my previous house (when I redid its Kitchen in 2007/2008) and in our current home.
I also agree that full-extension drawers are a "must" (for any drawer).
Regarding pot/pan drawer vs pot rack - if this is a home for aging in place, drawers are superior to pot racks b/c pot racks require lifting fairly heavy items up to the rack and then taking them down. That's fine when you're young and have full mobility/strength. However, that can change. Yes, we all say we'll stay in shape we won't be one of those who lose strength/mobility when we get older, but life happens and you develop things like arthritis that can significantly reduce both your mobility and strength.

It will be just as "amazing" on a wall with a hood.
What is supposed to be amazing is the the chef, the food! Not the grease, steam in the air, not the scent three days hence and I care not whether that food is cooked on an invisible surface, or a honkin 48 inch s.s range with red knobs.
Vent it.
“we do not want to go through the process of installing a ceiling hood and can not do down draft”— then you cant do a cooktop. not having ventilation will be nasty and disgusting.
