While in theory some seem like good features, the idea of spills and having to clean the nooks and cranies created by some of them (inset chopping block and knife holders! and that flip power outlet) is just unrealistic. Especially since the island is the countertop that sees the most spills, flour dust, etc. And outlets hidden in drawers or inside a cupboard is unfortunately not allowed in Canada (Ontario anyway).
From some of the comments, I’m realizing many people don’t know that wood is naturally antibacterial. It is much safer and more sanitary than a plastic cutting board. Goes for butcher block countertops too.
I know Houzz is all about the amazing & mostly out-of-reach ideas/renovations for most of us.....but I would take any of these either befores or afters. My barely 60 square foot kitchen with 3 egresses & we have no "steal space from", even stumps the professionals for a better design/layout. Oy LOL..... :(
I'm utterly in love with #3! What a gorgeous galley kitchen. I love how the little details elevated the space while essentially leaving the exact same layout. Lighter blue cabinets with a more furniture feel, crown molding, paneled fridge and dishwasher. Just so smart and sleek.

Beautiful set ups for freestanding tubs. I would love to see an article on built in shelf tubs. I am building my new house to age-in-place and while i love my current freestanding tub, i will be doing a built in grande tub alongside a sauna and steam room. Looking for modern and beautiful ideas. No one designs for built in tubs anymore but in 20 years, i will be thankful i put one in as senior legs can use a bit of help to slide in!
