New kitchen shelves

Hi everyone
Please would you be so kind to assist me with a design dilemma?
We have just had a new kitchen installed. It is going to be painted a dark blue on the units (little Greene hicks blue) and we have white metro tiles to go up.
Do you think the shelves look ok? I am worried about the shelves over the breakfast bar not being long enough. I think they look a bit odd! I have had to make so many decisions and not sure I have got any right!
Any other advice on styling would also be very much appreciated thank you

We have moved them over a bit using the same fixings in the wall just making new holes in the shelf. I think it looks better what do you think?

Hi - first pic what is going in the middle of the shelves ? Second pic - I do think they would be better the length of the wall - not sure why they end mid way ? (sorry !!)

merci à tous! effectivement notre idée première était de la conserver mais cela fut impossible!!! les photos avant sont celles prises avant l'achat avec les meubles de l'ancien propriétaire.

merci beaucoup de ces informations, pas de souci c'est bien normal de privilégier vos projets persos. Avec la base que vous avez faites ce ne sera pas très difficile. En tout cas merci pour ce site, je n'ai pas encore pu trop me pencher dessus mais ça a l'air top. Alix, ça rend super bien même si c'est un peu petit à l'écran. (il y a peut-être une fonction pour enregistrer l'image qui donnerait une meilleure qualité qu'une impression d'écran?) par contre je ne mettrais pas l'armoire et le banc dans ce sens car là ça va être coincé coincé. Personnellement je le mettrais en parallèle du coffrage du compteur électrique. Et je mettrais le bureau sous la fenêtre, comme ça jolie vue quand on veut s'échapper 2 minutes des tâches administratives, et pas de reflets sur l'écran! Par contre ne pas coller le bureau au mur s'il y a un radiateur pour ne pas faire chauffer l'ordi et empêcher la circulation d'air chaud. Sinon sur la dispo du reste je trouve ça pas mal, je suppose que vous aussi?! Pour la déco c'est trop petit pour se rendre compte mais la multiplication des sources d'éclairage indirectes pour le côté cocooning c'est super. Par contre je ne sais pas si c'est une bonne chose de prendre 3 fois le même modèle de lampadaire, ça va peut être faire trop figé? (mais peut-être qu'il n'y a pas trop de choix sur le logiciel?) Manque un tapis peut-être. Pour la cuisine, du coup vous optez pour ouverte sur le salon ou fermée avec une verrière? (à titre personnel je vous l'ai déjà dit, pour bruit, odeurs et masquer les casseroles qui traînent je vous conseille la 2e solution surtout que vous avez la lumière du jour dans la pièce...) Pas moyen de caser quelques étagères supplémentaires sous cette fenêtre?? Pour mettre une rangée de belle tasses ou bols par exemple? PS: pensez à la place pour vos torchons de cuisine"en cours", je n'ai pas regretté d'avoir laissé 10-15 cm entre 2 meubles pour installer un porte torchon coulissant. Ma mère a oublié, du coup ça traîne un peu partout et c'est moche (je les avais enlevés pour la photo ;-)

Hello ! Lynn thank you for this plan, we started to look, now it must decant! The good points: we deviate little arrivals and evacuations of water, the living room does not give directly into the kitchen, and the traffic seems easy. By cons, the sofa that cuts the entrance we do not adhere, but in a pinch we must be able to change its meaning too difficult! What annoys us more is the living room to the north, and roadside. There we must see if we can make this concession. rems, voici un plan du sous sol avec les points d'eau, je pense qu'on doit etre peu limité vu que tout est apparent un étage plus bas, sauf si cela fait exploser le budget de tout modifier :) L'électricité de la cuisine aucun soucis, dans tous les cas on doit la refaire intégralement. Voici ce que cela pourrait donner en mettant la chambre à droite de l'entrée : Pour la chambre, c'est génial, ca agrandit la salle d'eau et on peut meme avoir une partie dressing, en revanche, à cause de l'escalier, on a un grand couloir qui fait perdre 10m² et je me retrouve toujours avec la problématique de cet espace tout en longueur de 3m de large seulement. On a pas réussi à placer les meubles et murs de facon fluide. Et plus de fenetre dans la salle d'eau ! J'ai des rdv avec des artisans la semaine prochaine... affaire à suivre :D

I was worried they were too close to the pendant light so decided they should not go too near....then I thought they should be in the centre....argh expensive mistake!

Hi. Re the first pic, will you have anything next to the base unit on the right to take it to the end of the ŵall? If not, I think I'd shorten the shelves so they align to the end of the base unit. Re the breakfast bar I think I'd probably Align to the centre of the bar although that could look odd with the lights, hard to tell. They are aligned centrally with the ŵall though so don't look bad

I think the shelves are fine near the range but think they are unnecessary near the breakfast bar. I would rather see wall art.

I agree, a big canvas there would look great but I am a messy cook. I can imagine a blender or mixer related disaster happening.
I wanted a tea station with cups hanging from hooks and kettle underneath on worktop and nice tea canisters and teapots on shelves. Maybe longer shelves but not centred, so towards the window more?

I would make the shelves over the breakfast bar the full width of the wall. The shelves each side of where the extractor and cooker are going may be a dirt collector consider having closed wall units, maybe with clear glass doors.

Still think they would look better all the way across the wall. If the main purpose of them is to have more storage to get thing off the worktops why not have longer shelves giving you more space.

The builder advised that we shouldn't go too close to the window as would block out light, and also if we went too close to the pendant lights it would throw off the perfectly equal dimensions of space between each light...

I don't need them for storage really as have a utility room with floor to ceiling cupboards on one wall so they were just for a few bits and pieces

I'd suggest that you won't lose much light if you had longer shelves but I see what you mean re interfering with the lights.

It may well be possible to bring the outside ones inward slightly to help keep them away from the shelves if you swapped them out for longer ones. I'd say they would look better if they were bigger personally, but at the end of the day it's your space so do what you're comfortable with.

We like them, the finish matches the kitchen tops and from the photos it looks like the size and location are ok... nothing to dislike. You could make them longer, but you may not know until you start using them. If the lighting is an issue which it may not be you could try and fitting led lighting strips underneath.

The shelves look much better in the centre. Where is your kitchen from? Will you be painting by hand? I'm just curious as I wish to do something similar.
