The Australian backyard has certainly evolved over the past decade, but there are still features that make a backyard iconically Australian.

Last year, a Queensland mother-of-three Amy Beard, organised a 'retirement' party for her Hills Hoist to celebrate 56 years of faithful service. You can read the full story here.

Unfortunately I have had to let my house for the last decade and although it still has a Hills hoist, the lemon tree died.

A snag on the bbq .... or enjoying a meat pie from a deck chair while watching the backyard test match wth your neighbours ... cleaning the fishing gear in your thongs in the back yard ... or spinning the hills hoist as fast as you can to watch the sheets fly! ;) Oh - and a you beaut Bowen mango tree!

There is nothing more Aussie than a backyard BBQ!

We are finding with the estate blocks getting smaller, more of our homes are being customed and personalised to include a BBQ area in the under cover Alfresco space.

A beautiful modern take on the traditional Aussie BBQ that is perfect all year round!

You have to love the traditional hills hoist. They may not be attractive but they are fabulous for drying clothes, sheets and playing on it as a kid! We recently had to demolish ours as we knocked down our house and are rebuilding. My partner was sad to see this go more than the house!
