Everyone makes it. Behr has Polar White. Sherwin-Williams has Super White. Benjamin Moore has Decorator's White. The list goes on, and to be sure, there are subtle differences — some are bluer or grayer or yellower. A positively true bright white is a matter of your eye and the light, and what direction your windows face. (Bright white looks better on south-facing walls than on north facing ones, by the way.)
Most paint companies have a "pure white" or "ultrawhite" paint, which will give you a very crisp and clean look in the kitchen. But you can also go with a shade of white that has a tiny touch of yellow, brown or gray, which will warm up or cool down the white and add a little life to it. Note: The differences in the paint swatch appearances will vary depending on your monitor, but this can give you a starting point at the paint store. As always, be sure to paint a large test area and look at it through the day and week, with natural and artificial light, before making a final decision.
Cool white trim colors. Each of these paint colors reads as plain white or a slight off-white individually. But when they're placed next to one another, you can really see the hints of other colors they contain. Depending on the color calibration of your monitor, what you see here color-wise is not necessarily what you are going to get. Always refer to the actual paint swatches when selecting colors and sample any colors you like to make sure they work in your space.

White spaces can often feel cold and sterile, but you can counteract this if your space has striking architectural details and charming furniture, fixtures or accessories. In fact, the white wall color allows these details to take center stage where a vibrant color would be too distracting.
Tumbled marble tile. This backsplash works in a similar way; it mostly has just slight variations in color that coordinate with the creamy tones of the Giallo Ornamental granite counters, punctuated by darker tiles here and there. When choosing your accent tiles, you’ll have a few places to pick up the right hues. Look to the range of colors in your granite pattern to find the right darker tones. Look to your cabinet color as well. Tie the cabinets to the countertops with these accent tiles.
A simple tile with eclectic accents. Plain subway tile might have been too plain here, but the dotting in the eclectic tile pattern plucked from the range mosaic adds a playful touch. If you’re looking at a palette that has a lively granite pattern but feel like the color blocks of simple white or cream tile and miles of cabinets needs breaking up, consider livening things up over the range. Here the designer helped his clients find a geometric mosaic. He even took it a step further by adding a few circles plucked from the range mosaic’s pattern all around the room.

3. Rule: Kitchens demand tile walls. Why you should break it: While we’re adding tile to bedroom walls, why not consider other materials in the kitchen? With a low backsplash in place to stop the typical food splatters, the remaining walls of this kitchen are free to take on charming wallpaper. This helps keep the kitchen feeling like a true part of the home rather than a strictly functional space. Tip: Use a sheet of glass to cover wallpaper and you won’t need the addition of another material at all.
