One of my biggest pet peeves is counter depth refrigerators. There are times they are needed but they are often overpriced and cost more than a same or greater capacity standard depth. With a counter depth model, you essentially are usually paying more and getting less. They provide clean lines but there are other ways to get the same look.

Instead of paying more for less, get 18" uppers on the refrigerator wall and 30" deep base cabinets. The added cost for extended depth cabinets should be a wash with the extra cost for a counter depth refrigerator. So instead of paying more for reduced refrigerator size, you are gaining extra cabinet storage and countertop space while enjoying the storage capacity of a standard depth refrigerator.

This isn't necessarily saving cash but it provides more bang for your buck.
