So when adding onto and renovating the first floor of their classic 1810 stone farmhouse, they had their architects design their dream greenhouse. They sought a space where they could tend to their orchids and other plants, gather with family and friends and enjoy their morning coffee while looking out onto their property’s picturesque pond and gardens. Scope of work. The greenhouse is part of an addition to the first floor of the home. They also added a first-floor master bedroom and renovated existing spaces. The setting. The little stone structure in the foreground above was also part of the project. “The homeowners wanted a classic springhouse seen so often around the Pennsylvania countryside. It was built at the mouth of the pond and is also very useful for storing skimmers and such for cleaning the pond,” says ...
10845 Eden Roc DriveHomeowners: Jalie and Shawn Watkins of Watkins RemodelingThis 1955 midcentury modern home designed by architect Niles Resch is set on a hillside and features vibrant art, large windows, a round backyard pool and a guesthouse.The size of Jalie and Shawn Watkins’ home is deceiving when seen from the front. Nestled in the rear of the lot is a backyard made for entertaining, with the large pool, an outdoor kitchen and a 850-square-foot guesthouse. “The half-acre lot allows for great entertaining of large parties, which we often do,” Shawn says.
The height of the Douglas fir ceiling from the entry to the wall of windows bumps up about 4 feet in height, “so you enter in a compressed space and it opens up into an expansive living room,” DiRocco explains. The mahogany-framed windows are from Dynamic.The double-sided gas fireplace in the living area is white plaster, with a New York limestone base. A blackened metal insert separates the two materials. The fireplace features an open flame with no glass or other type of barrier.
Around the corners from the bookshelves in the reading area, the passageway opens up, on both sides, to two hallways, each leading to a guest room. Together with the master bedroom, these two rooms make for three full bedrooms in the house. But the home has still more space for guests: Twin beds are tucked into niches in the hallways.
