Bernard A Marson | Buonaguro-Swanson Residence
Note : You're viewing the non-styled version of this site. Buonaguro-Swanson Residence Monterey Massachusetts The house is set among the trees on a site that slopes steeply down to a lake. An entry bridge spans between the roadside and the upper level, which consists of a bath, powder room and two sleeping areas separated by a storage partition. A stairway down from the entry at the upper level leads to an open living-dining-kitchen area with its sliding glass window wall opening onto a sun deck overlooking the lake. Overhead beams act as a sunscreen. To protect privacy on the narrow lot there are no windows on either side of the house, but vertical louvers are used at the deck to allow breezes. Exterior walls and roof decks are tongue-and-groove cedar plank; floors, decks and beams are fir. Instead of a foundation cut into the rocky hillside, the house was set on fir columns to save construction costs.
