Ann did our property's front yard a few years back and we knew we would be using her again for the back when we were ready. She outperformed once again! The project is now complete and took a few years in the making. From design to completion and even during a pandemic- Ann is the ultimate professional. She leaves no stone unturned. Every detail is discussed- there are no surprises. When problems occur, and they always do on large projects, she is there to solve them quickly, fairly and efficiently. Ann knows everything you need to know on the engineering, the aesthetics, the plants and care etc. I would recommend Betten Landscape Design and I am available to discuss with referrals.

I have been extremely pleased with Ann Betten's work, from start to finish. She was very attentive to my requests, and created a beautiful and elegant design for my front yard and part of my back yard. In addition she developed a wonderful lighting design for my entire yard. She is extremely knowledgeable about plants/shrubs, and selected varieties which had interesting features during different seasons. She supervised the installation of the plants/shrubs/trees very carefully. She provided me resources for the care of the plants installed. She referred me to a wonderful landscaper. She is practical, and used existing plants and lighting wiring where possible. She was very responsive to questions I have had. She is friendly, personable, and easy to work with. I recommend her work highly.

After 25 years in our home, we undertook a major redesign of the landscaping surrounding our house. Betten Landscaping Design (BLD) worked with us during the planning stage to understand our goals and tastes. That information was very effectively used to build a unique design. BLD helped us assemble the documentation needed to present our project plan for homeowner association approval. Once the design was set, BLD oversaw all phases of the installation and helped us to arrange and manage the various contractors who worked to install the hardscape, trees, shrubs and turf involved in our project. The completed project contains a wide variety of native plantings and several unique features, which we look forward to enjoying for years to come.

My wife and I have worked with Ann at Betten Landscape Design for eight months, and we have been thrilled with her work. We moved into a Ruxton home that needed significant landscape redesign, including bamboo abatement and large tree removal, as well as development of a master plan. I have worked with Ann Betten for the past two years. She is an outstanding landscaper and hard scapegoat. She comes out and she looks at your area talks to you explains the plantings or hardscaping she’s thinking about using. She draws up a plan gives you an estimate which is right on target at the end of the project. Ann is meticulous in her planning. When a project is beginning she is right out there measuring, putting The plants exactly where there’s going to be planted, and instructing the workers exactly how they are to be planted and watered. As far as the hardscaping she has done for us it required a lot of Leveling and grading before the impervious pavers could be put in. She was right there with The workmen with her level in hand. Using an is the best thing you can do if you want a job well done. I’m looking forward to the spring when we will again be working on another section of my garden. Regards, Mikki Stratmeyer

Betten Landscape Design did a terrific job on a challenging water runoff issue on our property in Glen Arm. The work was efficient, timely and fairly priced. Using a quality subcontractor ( Old World Stone Masonry ) as well, Ann provided a clean and asthetically pleasing design that solved the problem for the long term. BLD was very responsive and open to questions and owner changes as needed. We were VERY pleased with the results. BLD comes with our highest recommendation.

I hired Betten Landscape Design to improve a dated patio that suffered from lack of use. Ann provided several design approaches and the flexibility to meet my budget. She was meticulous in designing for the flow of water that occurs during heavy rainfalls in my yard. The plants selected are easy to care for, as I requested. The work began and was completed on schedule and budget; Ann provided a customized guide explaining how to care for the new plants. Ann's work exceeded my expectations; the new patio and additional garden bed are a joy.

After hearing Ann Betten of Betten Landscape design At a district garden club meeting, I had her over to consult on a huge problem area in my yard. She came and gave me several ideas and I knew that we could work well together. Her style is easy to work and she came up with a design, told me about each of the plants, how many I needed, and why they would solve the problems in the different areas in my yard. I approve the plan, they came within two weeks, but the plan in place in 1 1/2 days. It worked superbly and solved my deer problem too. Everyone who sees what she has done can’t say enough wonderful things about the different areas that she’s helped me with. I will be asking her to come back again in the spring and help me with another problem area in my yard. She is wonderful listens to what you say and she stayed the entire time they were putting each and every plant in place she supervised everything unbelievable I’ve had other Landscape designers in my yard over the years and that has never happened. Ann's design to fix the persistent problem with water collecting against my basement wall was perfect. A French drain with attractive river rock now has solved the water coming into my basement. Ann was a thorough professional and a pleasure to work with. And she supervised the landscape crew that did the work.

I give Betten Landscape Design the highest rating possible because of the professionalism of Ann Betten, her creativity in designing a patio for me and re-figuration of the garden, her vast knowledge of plant materials appropriate for the site, her attention to detail, and her working closely with the contractor. She was always on the spot, she hired the most experienced contractor, she stayed within budget and saw that the work was done in a timely fashion. The total project was of the highest quality. Furthermore, she has followed up with me since the project was completed to answer any questions re:maintaining the area. Finally, she is a pleasure to work with and an excellent problem solver.

Ann helped turn an overgrown muddy slope of a yard into a lovely terraced garden. When working with Ann we received her complete attention. She measured our property and listened to what we wanted before drafting any plans. Those plans were changed several times as we worked collaboratively over several months. Ann worked tirelessly with contractors, making sure her plans were being followed. It was not unusual to see Ann walking our property after hours to look at the work completed earlier in the day. Over the years Ann has become a friend. She is an expert in her field. She is extremely reliable and will work with you diligently to achieve your goal.

I moved into my home six years ago and there was nothing but mud in the vast back yard. Working with Ann, we quickly turned it into a tiered garden with foundation plantings, loads of perennials, and walkways with paths and lighting. The transformation required working with subcontractors to create the walls and patio as well as a septic company to coordinate correctly placing the patio overtop it. Ann also found a great subcontractor to install a deer fence. Anyone who wants to see this work is welcome to contact Ann for a tour of my home!! My highest recommendation.

Description Of Work: We initially engaged Ann Betten for our landscape design. We were impressed enough to hire her to project manage the improvements, which included masons, electricians, landscapers, porch remodelers, etc. Ann competitively bid the work, kept all contractors on task and had a keen eye for quality control. Scope included landscape design, porch remodel, bluestone patio with sitting wall, re-grading and seeding of backyard, planting & outdoor lighting/electrical. Comments: Ann is a great listener, extremely patient, knows her stuff and is a true professional. While probably less expensive than the larger shops that have more overhead, Ann provides a very a high-touch, personal experience. She even assisted in meeting with our adjacent neighbors to help with apprehensions that are inevitable when construction is occurring in one’s backyard (always looks worse before it looks better). Her attention to detail was impressive, and she cared for our home/yard as though it was her own. She did this while remaining respectful of our opinions, aesthetic, goals and budget. We are very pleased with the results and would highly recommend her to our friends and family.

Ann Betten has helped us develop the landscape around our house for about ten years . Our corner lot was once a traditional grass plot with a few large trees. Now we can look out any window and love what we see. She has worked with us, at our own pace. We have never felt pressured. She has planned and executed solutions for projects large and small including drainage issues, hardscape planning and installation, trees, shrubs and perennials. I have worked with Betten Landscape Design for ten years, ever since we bought our current residence. One of the outstanding jobs they did was to create a stone patio with grill and seating area which we use almost every day. It was a pleasure to work with them, and the job was done to perfection. Additionally, we had a drainage problem from surrounding topography which the original developer did not deal with as originally planned. Betten Landscape Design regraded the area and designed a program to correct the problem, including the initial planning and follow up. We also have recommended this firm to some of our friends, who seemed pleased with their results.

We have worked with Betten Landscape Design over 11 years on several extensive landscaping projects at our home and have been very pleased with Ann's expertise and attention to detail. One project involved designing a new built-in swimming pool, pool decking, retaining wall, landscaping around the the new pool and adding a new deck coming off of the house. Another project involved regrading, waterproofing and landscaping in front of our home to address water seepage in the basement. Ann also replaced overgrown shrugs and plants. A third project involved designing the area where a new generator would be placed and then landscaping around the new unit. These projects all involved working with other contractors and Ann was reliable and gave clear directions. She has extensive knowledge about all plants especially deer-resistant plants. She is easy to work with and is reliable and honest. I would highly recommend Betten Landscape Design.

We have done a lot of replanting because of the age of our plants, the growing damage from the deer, and the increased shade in out yard.. Anne Betten has been amazing in helping us choose deer resistant plants, interesting and less commonly used plants, while making everything easy to maintain. She coordinated her work with other companies she provided to correct drainage issues in our yard. Anne is very professional and she takes great pride in her designs. She was willing to work within our budget and to listen to our thoughts and concerns. I would highly recommend her.
