Gregory Dedona founded his architectural practice in Mill Valley, CA in 1989 after receiving his California licensure. For over 30 years Greg has been serving local residents and project developers primarily in Marin County, as well as in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, and Los Angeles. Greg's commitment to quality design and high level of thorough service has earned him a loyal client base and a reputation for ability and integrity. Throughout the years he has built a team of experienced professionals including civil and geotechnical engineers, land surveyors, and building contractors. Greg is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, School of Environmental Design - B.A. in Architecture. His design philosophy is rooted in a contextual approach to each project site by shaping the client's program needs and fitting the design solution to the surroundings. He is not characterized by any one style, being adaptable to stylistic genres of traditional eras or modern contemporary influences. His abilities range beyond design, incorporating problem solving, management, and leadership skills into every project. Greg is committed to implementing Sustainable Design and Green Building practices in all his work. Greg served for over 12 years on the Tam Design Review Board, a planning review body appointed by the Board of Supervisors for the unincorporated Mill Valley areas of Marin County, and was Chair for nearly half his term. He is active volunteering in his community as a scout leader, and as a youth sports coach with his son and daughter. Gregory Dedona offers a wide range of architectural design and consultation services. Greg has a long history of designing new houses and remodeling in Marin. We worked with him on a full remodel in Mill Valley. The project, as many full remodels are in the historic town, was tricky and challenging. He was mindful of our budget, listened to our ideas, and worked with us on multiple options and designs to help us make educated choices. He was able to expand and completely redesign the inside of the house while preserving part of the history of the 100-year-old house. His insights on how to work with the building departments were invaluable. He didn't delegate and we always worked directly with him: he became intimately familiar with the site, house, and project. He was also very responsive, making himself available even when out of town which was a bonus when decisions and changes had to be made quickly. If you like the style of the houses he has designed, don't hesitate to hire him, especially if you work with him and Jim Barton as the contractor - they make a great team!

Greg was fantastic! We came to him with a bunch of bad ideas and he guided us to a project that ultimately worked perfectly for our family. He was attentive, responsive, timely, and cost sensitive. Greg also had a great understanding of local ordinances, which allowed us to avoid potential pitfalls and keep our project on track and on budget. Can't recommend him enough!

Greg worked with me on a home remodel transforming our basement into a living room and office area which turned out great. It was an awesome experience to work with Greg. I was looking for someone that could not only design the space but really someone that could function as a project manager - he was stellar in both respects. Also, dealing with planning commissions in Marin County is a difficult challenge to say the least and i frankly don't think our project would have been green lit without his efforts. He understands how to navigate those treacherous waters. He also brought in great people - Jim Barton was the contractor he recommended that was fantastic as well. Greg is highly conscientious - he was always on time with deliverables and has a sense of urgency to drive projects when needed. Most importantly, i trusted Greg implicitly and felt he was always looking out for my interests. Lucky to have found Greg and highly recommend!

Greg has worked with us on three projects over the past 8 years: a full remodel in 2017-18, a laundry / utility room redesign in 2012, and a library / media room project in 2020. Greg really dug in on each project; working with an existing building is much tougher in many ways than starting from scratch, and Greg took the time to understand both the space and our needs in depth before bringing his considerable creativity and problem-solving ability to bear. The results are amazing---Greg has helped us to create a beautiful, open, and warm space, which has sheltered us and kept us happy over the past year in particular. Highly recommend his services.

We knew we were in good hands with Greg and we knew he was going to ensure that our remodel was completed to his satisfaction. Greg was wonderful to work with and did a fantastic job on remodeling my house in Mill Valley. He has a finely tuned aesthetic sense and an eye for detail and was very good at providing guidance on both design and pricing. He was also very good at exploring different ideas and options through out the planning and execution phase, as needed. He has a good professional and creative network that he's happy to share. He was supportive in working with sub-contractors, too. I love my home and definitely recommend Greg.

We cannot say enough good things about Greg Dedona who we hired as the architect for our (major) remodel in Mill Valley. Since both my wife and I are former architects, he had a demanding clientele, yet exceeded every expectation. We don't know if we were most impressed by his beautiful design in a challenging site, attention to detail or the enthusiasm he brought to the table every time we met. Our house went from a tired old ranch that had outlived its footprint to a light-filled, airy volume that embraces nature and that we marvel at every day. Truly wonderful experience which we are enjoying thoroughly as a family. Thank you.

We worked with Greg on our rebuild in Mill Valley and could not have been happier. I love my house and credit Greg for listening to our ideas and designing the perfect house for us. His attention to detail and aesthetic are impeccable. Our wishlist was long and probably unrealistic but he was able to balance all that we wanted. The details of the house from layout to materials-inside and out- are right on. It is great to sit out on the porch and hear people comment on the house every time they walk by!!

Greg was fantastic. He guided us through the process starting from our rough ideas about our remodel to the final inspection. He has a great aesthetic sense and deep experience in remodeling, construction costs, and practical advise. He was superb in guiding us through the City planning process. We would definitely use him again.

¬When we were ready to begin a major remodel on our 1940’s era house, we looked around town to check out other projects. We asked a woman who had just finished her own remodel – a house that we had admired from afar – about how she liked her architect. She said simply: “I LOVE my architect.” That’s when we decided to go with Greg Dedona, a decision that proved to be excellent in so many ways. From the very beginning, Greg’s way of working was perfect for us. His enthusiasm, ideas, and experience illuminated a series of detailed conversations about the way we wanted to live. Not only did this get us quickly through the planning process, we totally appreciated the way Greg LISTENED to our vague (sometimes inarticulate) thoughts on what we were looking for in a living space. We liked how Greg paid attention to “the flow” of the downstairs rooms, so that they remained discrete spaces yet completely part of the overall floor plan. We got what we think is the best kitchen on earth, with built-in bookshelves for a library of cookbooks. Greg’s rigorous approach insured that the aesthetic aspects of the project could be realized, both in terms of budget and with all the local building codes. Once we got underway, using his favorite contractor to actually realize our vision in wood and shingle, we realized we got way more than our money’s worth by hiring Greg Dedona. The house turned out beautifully, and we now say unequivocally that we too “love our architect.”

We had Greg help us with a significant re-design of our 1930s bungalow. We call it a kitchen remodel, since that was the focus of the project, but it involved gutting and re-designing the center of the house. Greg's design gave us the features we wanted, while incorporating design themes from the original architecture to make the new space feel like it had always been there. He also worked well with our contractor to ensure that the finished product matched the design vision. Highly recommended.

I'm the fortunate and proud owner of two custom homes designed by Greg Dedona. One is in Mill Valley, Marin County (1999, remodel) and the other is in McCloud, Siskiyou County (2013, tear-down & full new construction). Greg's mastery of design, materials and construction processes created two stunning, unique, buildable and affordable homes. His ability to creatively merge our family's goals, an evolving joint vision for the houses and the highly different administrative processes of these two sharply contrasting counties was something I believe very few (if any?) other architects could achieve. From the most rural contractor resources in Siskiyou to the most experienced and high-end pros in Marin, Greg demonstrated an ability to forge loose and disparate bands of craftsmen into a cohesive team. His leadership was respected by everyone involved - strikingly unusual in the often friction-plagued relationships one sees between contractor and architect. Perhaps most creatively, our McCloud home made great use of owner-procured (i.e., salvaged!) locally sourced, recycled materials - 100 yr old wood floors, replaned structural doug fir for interior trim, refurbished Wedgewood kitchen stoves etc.. In sharp contrast to architects who often scorn such an approach, Greg was invaluable in his advice on how to make these materials work. He helped us source many of them through his amazing array of contacts not just in Marin, but from Tahoe to the Oregon border. Highest possible rating...were there a lifetime achievement award for residential architecture in California, Greg Dedona has already earned it.

A commenté : Paint color?Hi - I believe the color on the posts and beams is Benjamin Moore "Spanish Moss". I don't recall the color of the shingle stain, but it might be Sherwin Williams "Blue Shadow". ...

A commenté : Hillside houseHi - Not sure on the manufacturer of these pendants, but these Edison type lamp fixtures are readily available. You should be able get seeded glass, but that would obscure the look of filament.

A commenté : How deep is the cabinet with the microwave? It is a nice placement.Hi - It is a typical 12"-13" deep upper cabinet. We recessed the wall stud cavity behind to accommodate some extra depth for the microwave. Hope this helps!
