Jim Higgins just completed a beautiful kitchen addition for us—-we are very happy with the new space and high quality work. Jim was very precise on cost estimates and building details throughout the project. He went out of his way to make the process as comfortable as possible for us while our kitchen was disrupted for about six weeks..Everyday the job site was left very neat and clean which we really appreciated. Happy to recommend his work to others.

We hired Jim Higgins (Gulf Brook Renovations) to build an attached, two-car garage that was completed in early Dec. 2018. I have waited to write this review to make sure that there were no problems. There are none, and we are very happy with the work that Jim (and his employees/subcontractors) did. We are also very happy with the process. The original house was built in 2002. Although I made it known to the builder at that time that we planned on building a garage, that was not adequately taken into account during the site work. As a result, there were some challenges that Jim had to work with in terms of the topography of the building site. These included the fact that there was a substantial slope where the garage was to be built, the site was covered in fill, and so the garage had to be built on a more substantial foundation than it would have had to have been otherwise. Finally, a French Drain had to be installed in front of the garage. The attached pictures may give some indication of what we had to deal with. Despite these challenges, and the fact that our plans changed several times during the planning process, Jim was very patient in working with me to come up with a plan that addressed the site challenges and which remained our budget. Jim and his employees/subcontractors had a professional, yet easy-going manner that helped minimize stress. For example, his excavator moved several trees instead of merely ripping them out. The individual who did the foundation, sealed a crack that went from the top to the bottom of the original 2002 foundation at no cost. I believe that Jim provides very good value for the money. My guess is that you may find builders who will offer to do a given a job for less, but I would be wary. In general you get what you paid for. We wanted a well-concerned and built garage, and that is what we got. We would definitely consult with Jim again on future projects.

Gulf Brook Renovations has done a variety of projects for us: They’ve re-sheetrocked a ceiling, renovated a bathroom, and built exterior stairs. They’ve even designed and built an addition onto our 116 year old farmhouse. Jim Higgins, the owner, is a talented professional who sees the job through from start to finish. He is knowledgeable, reliable, and a very good communicator. Whenever a problem arose in projects around our antique farmhouse, Jim would step back and figure out a sensible, aesthetically pleasing solution. Bottom line: Gulf Brook Renovations does beautiful, high-quality work and they are a pleasure to work with.
