We are an award-winning Princeton NJ and NYC based Architecture practice run by principal Liesl Geiger-Kincade. The firm's work reflects Liesl's knowledge and passion for materials, details and proportion in relation to each project. A balance of classic and modern sensibilities enables Studio Geiger Architecture to create spaces that are timeless and exciting. In addition wherever possible the firm likes to think local, sustainable and natural. Liesl earned her Masters of Architecture as well as her Bachelor of Arts from Yale, and afterwards was a Fulbright scholar in Helsinki Finland. Prior to forming her own practice in 2003, she worked with Robert AM Stern Architects. Studio Geiger Architecture recently received an honor from the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association in California for their work on a renovation of an Arts and Crafts house in the Berkeley Hills. Liesl’s book entitled The Essence of Home: Timeless Elements of Design was published by The Monacelli Press. Geiger is a licensed architect and a member of the AIA.

I worked with Liesl on the renovation of our 100+ year old house and she did a wonderful job in maintaining the style of the house while appropriately incorporating the modernization that it needed. She is great at listening and addressing your living needs and preferences, coming up with elegant solutions to address function, as well as awkward areas. Very much enjoyed working with Liesl and highly recommend!

As an architectural photographer, I have had the pleasure to photograph a few of Liesl's projects. When I visited one of the townhouses, a client excitedly showed me the way a detail of a wall panel worked. He was beaming with a huge smile about the way the rooms turned out. I know Liesl and her team work closely with the clients to craft a vision, balancing the client’s aesthetic and the studio’s recommendations. This, I believe, is what leads to much of the success of the projects. There is an atmosphere in the spaces I have visited that feels welcoming and animated. I believe this comes from Liesl's intimate awareness of light and material properties. Liesl is talented and experienced, and her enthusiasm for what she does comes through in the spaces. I highly recommend her studio.

Crocker Coulson

We had Liesl do the design for a brownstone renovation in Brooklyn that included completely opening up and refreshing the first floor or the house including a whole new kitchen, opening it up to the outside garden, redesigning the top floor bathroom. She has a great sense for working with clients to bring their taste and ideas to life. Great suggestions on materials and also willing to work with us realistically to come up with a workable budget.

We hired Liesl Geiger in 2005 to renovate an apartment in Greenwich Village for our new family. Our satisfaction in working with Liesl has been such that we hired her again to renovate an old home in Berkeley when we moved to California in 2010. She is an excellent architect, with a broad knowledge base, good listening skills, a talent for finding the true inspiration for a project, and excellent taste. She is skilled from a technical perspective, as well. We have now had two different teams work to implement her designs and both have been impressed with the thoroughness of her drawings. Liesl has the technical skills and attention to detail that make the build-out of a project a success. What’s more, in both instances she has had a strong working relationship with the contracting team, supplying clear, understandable drawings and directions and being responsive to them as a team. In both instances she has created a positive working environment that led to shared success.

Studio Geiger has been incredibly thoughtful and innovative in their approach to the design of a residential house that we worked on together in Shelter Island, New York. Liesl has a very strong historical knowledge of architecture while also having strong skills in creating very modern spaces. As a Landscape Architect, I appreciate Liesl's great sensitivity to the unique setting of each project. Each house connects the architecture seamlessly to the landscape and the individual site, and in her apartments there is always an awareness of light, textures and colors from the outdoors. The firm is very professional and constantly provides realistic, handsome and creative solutions to spatial challenges. Liesl is also respectful of budget parameters, a pleasure to work with, and I highly recommend the firm.

Studio Geiger provides tasteful and thoughtful design services as well as project management. Liesl’s design concept sensibilities cover a broad range including North American and European tastes. I would very strongly recommend Liesl to anyone who is looking for an Architectural design services for higher end homes. My project entailed the renovation of a large, pre-war apartment in the mid-town, Carnegie Hall area which is well known for its Landmark buildings. Liesl is a first class and pedigreed Architect and Studio Geiger also managed the project implementation.

I have had a very pleasant and yet enriching experience with Liesl in renovating an older pre-war apt. She is a very talented and artistic person and when you hear her creative ideas as you get to know her, you can understand how she has won awards. In addition to this, she is very easy to talk to and does not push herself on you in any way. Her varied and in depth experience and education affords her an ability to take on projects at any level and most styles with great success. She presents alternatives to you and lets you lead if you choose to but will take charge if so desired. This is an unusual ability in a well trained architect and it makes her a special find. Liesl took out an entire wall and opened the space in amazing ways in my apartment . She is very tasteful and yet is quite creative and can do unusual things in the use of space. Her taste is elegant and refined with a touch of lyricism. My experience was pleasant and fun and yet exciting with new ideas. I love what she has done with my apartment. It is a total metamorphosis from a stodgy older apt in good taste to a new open, light, and breathtakingly beautiful space . It is basically a modern space but we have included antiques and she can do the combining of modern with older periods which is very difficult to do well and smoothly. Liesl has expertise in the use of light and glass. She is great with color. She is modest and a gem to work with. I recommend her highly.
