I am a fibre artist and work with natural fibre like 100% Australian merino wool, silk, flax, cotton, bamboo and mote. My wall hangings are very tactile, they invite you to touch and feel them. We are naturally drawn to the soft environments. In the preindustrial revolution times, all homes were handmade, gentle and soft. If we take a closer look to any culture, especially indigenous, and their habitats – be it Native Americans, Mongolians or any of the ‘Stan’, Nordic or Baltic nations, their walls were decorated with soft animal skins, felts or handmade drawings. Their daily home environment was gentle and soft and their whole life was closer to nature and more respectful to it. Wool as a material is fire resistant, eco renewable, biodigradable, non toxic and a natural insulator.

Art inspired by colour, movement and mystery At university I had a remarkable Fine Arts professor whose favourite pastime was reminding his students that the process is more important than the product. Once quite OCD in controlling every step of my art making, I savoured that drop of wisdom and so began my love of abstract art and experimenting and exploring with colours, textures and the expression of emotions. In mid-2016 my love of experimenting led to a little newcomer in the field of abstract fluid art; resin. Whilst resin is not a new invention by any stretch of the imagination, used in casting and sealing for decades, no one could have guessed that one day artists would begin adding pigments leading to it becoming the darling of abstract fluid art. So what’s the big deal with resin and abstract art anyway? Well, working with this newbie has been unlike anything I’ve worked with before. This seemingly humble crystal clear medium has got huge soul. When added to paints, inks and powders, art becomes science as various chemical reactions take place producing boundless layers and divine textures across any given surface. Over the 24 hours that it cures to a glass-like finish it seems like the vibrant hues and ethereal textures are captured mid-movement layers deep. It is simply captivating. After one shot at trialling resin, I was taken... hook, line and sinker. Every time I am painting in resin, it’s like a rush of adrenaline. Being unable to control the final product means that it is a very instinctive process in nature, allowing it to become quite a spiritual experience for me every time I create. I sing, I dance, and I have a ball in the studio, my process is like a joy-filled prayer experienced through movement and colour. I’m really baring a part of my soul with each creation. My latest collection of artworks speaks about the fascinating but complex mysteries we experience in everyday life. From human interactions between two souls, to the pondering of destiny and purpose.

Barwon Heads based artist Megan Weston has been exhibiting since 2010. Weston's large scale abstract landscapes have been described as bold but quietly content, with a dramatic deep colour palette that can be both striking and calming at the same time. Her landscapes reflect beauty in the present and light and hope for the future. Inspired by technology and the images presented by satellites of the earth from afar, Weston is careful in making sure her art presents our earth as fragile and often damaged by human consumption but also spectacular, with surviving beauty. Working predominately with ink and resin on timber, these typographical portraits are ever changing with the environment.
