Jacques Rival

I studied Architecture, and received a French diploma in Architecture in 1999 : The subject matter of this Diploma tried to create a new way between Art and urban places. Since 2000, I have always tried to find fun and lightness, outside the realm connected with the profession for which I was destined. My work is mostly done on urban outdoor spaces in order to create a special moment accessible to all and to create an aesthetic impact, connecting various fields of creation in one global artwork. Approach: I try to offer several levels of reading without any pre conceived notions from the audience. I am working for the passer-by. I want to offer curious and unconventional moments that can surprise and delight the unsuspecting passerby who can be really surprised and to offer curious and unconventional proposition. The installation often echoes the spirit of a place: to distill and reveal what it means to me. My approach looks for obviousness and simplicity in real time. It uncovers and uses our buried and forgotten memories. I am trying to share my dreams; and give the audience the opportunity to live again and to taste again childlike wonder forgotten with time. I want to create installations that can transport people back to their purest feelings and give a moment away from our schooled and Cartesian perception; to feel free and look for simplicity and lightness of being. The foundation of my work tries to play with common place items, because for me diversion can create invisible links between our perception and our connection to the past and imagination. I think that my work must be available to various audiences and in various settings and experienced in places other than museums and galleries. My work focuses on simple obvious ideas which can reach our purest feelings from our childhood. I am fond of challenge and technical achievement, but all these devices are not used for their own glory but for their ability to create a moment of reverie. In all these projects I have always respected the schedule and budget, because nothing is ever left to chance for such a monumental practice: I have collaborating with technical teams who have a really cutting edge expertise.
