We worked with Peter Twohy to design our “legacy home” in Highland, Maryland, and it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Choosing an architect is not something you do every day, and so many things about Peter made that decision easier. In addition to his actual expertise, genius and brilliance as an architect, Peter has a way of getting to the heart of what it is that you truly want, and then collaborating with you to sketch your excitement and ideas into existence. Then, in the most magical way, Peter converts your dream into Virtual Reality so you can walk through every inch of your home before the shovels ever hit the ground! VR takes a daunting process and turns it into a fun, exciting, extremely practical way of building a house, so every bit of the space makes sense to you as you “virtually” move through it. We worked with Peter to create a decidedly modern home, and without the ability to experience it in VR, we don’t think we would have had ended up with a building as uniquely beautiful, functional and perfect for us and our family. One other thing about Peter stands out: he pays close attention to your budget and is always offering ways to save on the all-important dollar-per-square-foot. He thinks of things you won’t, offers solutions you couldn’t fathom, and stays with you for the entirety of your project (and beyond). He’s an excellent communicator, story-teller and hand-holder, and his happiness stems from your happiness, which for us, was exactly what we wanted. We are happy and grateful to call Peter our friend.

I have a beautiful and meaningful home. Knowing the feeling you want in a home is one thing -- figuring out a way to articulate what that means in a house design and then putting a plan into action is another. That is where Peter comes in -- with beautiful designs and practical advice. He asked lots of questions up front to figure out what really mattered to us... Light, sentimental features, flow, furniture, how we entertain, how we relax, how we create, what kinds of elements we like and, of course, budget. We shared our vision. And, then, he created something artistic, beautiful, smart, comfortable and breathtaking. We opened the front door to a close friend and when she saw the masterful space that Peter designed -- the clever use of relief in the ceiling and the focal point -- a massive window, inviting the garden to be a design element -- she literally teared up. To repeatedly hear from visitors that it is a stunning combination of beautiful design and comfort means a lot. That is exactly what I wanted. I can not adequately express my gratitude -- when I look around and think, this is one of the prettiest spaces I've been in, and it's ours -- I have Peter to thank. Thank you, Peter, for your vision, your creativity, your care, your consultation and guidance (and silly analogies). In addition to brilliant work, I also really appreciated how you and your partner, Chris, were careful with the budget -- how you talked us through some difficult decisions. You didn't just design -- you also made sure the plan could be carried out to include consulting with contractors. That kind of care and attention meant more to me than you will ever know. I feel very fortunate to have had your time and attention -- with every compliment we receive, whether it's people looking at the outside from the street, or once they step inside, I realize how nice it is to have one of those spaces where people literally say "WOW," repeatedly, while they scan the space. Peter did an outstanding job in designing our home. We have moved often over my professional career and we wanted to build a home that would reflect the features we enjoyed the most from various homes we had lived in over the years. Peter was able to listen carefully and then come back with drawings that reflected our desires while enhancing certain features based on his wealth of experience. Peter's team has the technological ability to allow a client to literally "walk through the new house" on a virtual basis. You can look at the house from the outside, then walk in the doors, walk around the inside of your house and literally see out the windows. As a client, it gives you great comfort to be able to experience your house before it is built and make sure your vision and the architects were the same. My wife and I highly recommend this. Based on feedback from other third party professionals as to the topography of our property, we needed to literally flip our house. By this we mean that we needed to move everything that was on the left of the house (e.g. the garage) to the right. Peter's team was able to do this in a weekend with their software. We have found the relationship to be great with Peter and his team and highly recommend them.

Peter designed our house so when it was time to finish our basement, we didn't hesitate to contact him. He has an incredible way of envisioning possibilities, and he came up with a terrific design, utilizing the space efficiently, yet beautifully. We are thrilled with the results and cannot recommend him highly enough.

When we bought our 1970s colonial house twelve years ago we knew it had a lot of potential. Being a young family we had grand ideas with limited resources. We had done all of our own design and renovation in our starter home but quickly realized we would need more help with our forever home. We found Peter’s profile on Houzz and really liked his projects. Once we realized he was the architect that actually remodeled our neighbor’s house, we put him at the top of our list. Interviewing and hiring an architect was a really intimidating idea for us. We had no idea what we were facing from a cost perspective. After interviewing Peter, he really put us at ease and helped us realize that hiring him to create a “whole house plan” was the best approach. Peter really listened to our ideas and was very thorough and responsive. He took my terrible drawings and turned them into a great plan that we could break into manageable projects over years. After or initial meeting seven years ago, we have turned our entire, dated, closed off house into large gathering spaces that are inviting and functional for the way our family lives. Our house now has the "Wow" factor we dreamed it could.

Peter was a pleasure to work with and patient and attentive throughout the process. After 40+ years in our mid-mod home, change was much-needed but also not easy. Peter had great ideas and helped us think outside of our comfort zone. He stayed in contact throughout the construction process, and we are thrilled with the final product.

Peter Twohy is a masterful architect. Peter’s knowledge of his craft, along with his meticulous attention to detail and sheer talent, make for a winning combination. Throughout the design process, Peter’s focus was always on what our needs were as a family, and his drawings reflected that. Our home addition and renovation project was far from simple, but Peter did a wonderful job problem-solving any issues that arose. He seamlessly combined old house and new to create a fresh and updated feel while preserving the house’s original charm. Peter is a consummate professional. Knowledgeable, affable and solid in every good sense. I had a spectacular but odd piece of land to build on. Peter took my personal preferences, home needs (he even anticipated needs I had not considered), budget and weird landscape into account and created a wonderful and unique home. Although the plans were done fairly quickly, there were many ups and downs getting to and through building. He weathered those alongside me, adjusted things as needed and gave useful advice in a timely manner.

2e Architects had the vision to make our dream home a reality, and created such a remarkable transformation not only to our house but to the way we live. Our home was reinvented with seemingly simple and subtle changes which were highly impactful.

Many thanks to 2e architects! Peter is equal parts inspired artist and amazing technician. There are many architects in the world today capable of drawing plans, but we were fortunate enough to find one who could create a unique space all our own. Peter has a unique process of eliciting from the homeowner their individual preferences of how the home will function and feel. Many of the people close to us have been amazed at how our house plans are so uniquely us in spite of the fact that our preferences are very different. On the technical side, Peter‘s work products are simply amazing! The 3-D renderings make the finished product come to life well in advance of construction. Additionally, the 3-D models prove the constructability of the design and facilitate field construction by allowing crews to actually see the way the design is built rather than needing to make the mental leap from plan and elevation views. I recommend 2e often and will definitely use them again in the future.

Peter was fantastic to work with on the remodeling design of our home. He was professional and witty and also has a vision for taking a beast of a project and turning it into a beautiful home. We specifically sought out his experience in solving some of the daunting problems associated with a large remodel on a "curb-appeal-challenged" house. His 3D renderings really helps one conceptualize the finished project. Peter's approach to our project was very thoughtful and he listened carefully to what both my husband and I wanted in the redesign of our home. We certainly appreciated his expertise regarding what "could" be done and what "should" be done. He really helped us think through all of the practical aspects of remodeling and their inherent costs so that we could get the most out of our budget. We found the whole process to be enjoyable.
