Advice on kitchen wall color, please.
We have just begun our kitchen remodel. Presently, the kitchen is completely gutted so I'm unable to send photos of the room itself. The kitchen is 17 x 13.5'. I have attached photos of my flooring choice and back splash. The cabinets are custom oak, with jacobean stain and bead board inset. (Being built now, so no photos). Counter top choice is natural soapstone. Appliances are stainless. Our home is 108 years old and we try to keep a vintage feel in our design elements when possible. I have a high back farm sink with drain board. Island will be topped with hickory butcher block. I have one wall that will be blank, meaning no cabinets. I am struggling with a paint color choice. I know I want it to be neutral but not necessarily white or beige. I would like to choose a historic color. The kitchen opens to the dining room which has basil/cream stripe satin wall covering over white wainscot. I feel like I need a color that will transition easily to the dining room but not necessarily green. Maybe a gray shade? But is that too much gray with all the stainless and soapstone? And how does gray stand up against dark cabinets? Thanks for listening.

Commentaires (5)Bonjour! Is your ceiling unique to the kitchen or continues for another room? You can use the ceiling to add color If just the kitchen. A medium intensity color would warm up the space without making somber. You can also choose a wall as an accent, keeping the rest very pale. Tones of yellow would be nice. See the Benjamin color trends for 2016. A lot of whites accentuated with colors. One room has yellow, but you don't have to go so intense. Also see on houzz "clored" ceilings. You can also use our window frames to add contrast painting them a darker shade of gray or charcoal. I'm not trying to criticize, the space seems new, with quality materials and well-lit, but have you also noticed the other big white walls? and ceiling? Why just the wall with the mirror? You've got a majority of white, a good dose of black, some chrome / stainless steel details and an uninterrupted shiny pale wood floor. It's relatively astonishing that you have a white door and only one white window, but the other window is black? Everything is relativement anonymous, nice, but nothing too ground-breaking. Is this a rental or your own home? Are you sure that just some art on that one wall will make it cozy and beautiful? Have you thought about any window treatments? Store venetien? Rideaux? Store bateaux? Any type of rug under the dining table? A rug called Bolon, made of woven vinyl fibers, easily cleaned ant anti-allergy. Is the mirror not on the axis of the table on purpose? And why a dark wood? It adds to the "window types", a black one, a white one and the wooden mirror one... Some more information would be helpful. good luck, Lynn... Voir plusHeidi Beal

il y a 8 ansI believe that you can use the iridescent tile if you balance it with vintage materials and accents. It will still make the kitchen lean more towards modern though, than say, a subway. A subway with a darker grout maybe considered, as well as glass subway tile.

Kitchens of that era were normally an after thought. They sported hard greens, yellows and occasionally a royal blue where red was the accent color. Mostly they were white.
Depending on the location and the grandeur of the home you would have seen embellishments such as tile by the water heater, sink or stove. The tile was either square or oblong or cut corners to make a harlequin pattern. The tile itself was textured, subway, or in the case of an arts and crafts home a color pattern or a combination of these

I'm leaning more towards the Colonial Revival Ivory but also like the gold colours if lightened a bit. You can ask any paint department personnel to add a few drops of white to tone colours down a little if you like the idea of a colour but not how "in your face" it is.

il y a 8 anssoft butter cream yellow. Yellow was never my favorite color but Oatslands yellow by Valspar worked the best with our oak cabinets and my cobalt and copper kitchen ware.
