This builder has trimmed out the top of this shelving like Ellen's builder friend. Except with the added touch that this builder created an overhang with his tops. I like that even better.

I think using a mirror behind any dresser like this is a good idea. Glass knobs dress up a closet. This dresser top is at a minimum routed around the edges, and actually could be marble.

The drawers underneath on the side keep things neat. This shows how acrylic or granite tops on your side dressers can add a lot.

This is a shoe cubby layout that Ellen might be able to use.

This one has one of my favorite windows. Lets in lots of light. I like that it is a floor to ceiling window. That is classy. I like the way they trimed out the very top of the cubbies. Great overall layout. I like this one a lot. Good use of over-cabinet accent lighting.

Notice the variation in depths that this builder used. You can really notice it when you look at the tops. It adds a real custom look. I like the base moulding too.
