Bondi Kitchen
This fresh and modern kitchen is housed within a beautiful Art Deco building in the heart of Bondi Beach in Sydney. It was part of a larger renovation and makeover of most of this one bedroom apartment with plenty of natural light and views across rooftops to the water.
My client wanted a space that felt light and bright and that complemented the apartment’s period features. And of course it had to improve the functionality of the old kitchen which was a small u-shaped space with limited bench space and no connectivity to the rest of the apartment.
A wall was removed between the old (totally dysfunctional!) kitchen and the living room, maximising the natural light and creating the open plan feeling my client wanted to achieve. There were some structural works required so we called in a licenced builder to help with this part of the job.
Choosing the right finishes was essential to the success of this kitchen. The hexagonal white tiled splashback is the hero piece in the room and the shape really pops through the use of grey grout work. A soft, speckled grey stone benchtop provides depth and white satin-finish cabinetry gives a streamlined look.
By removing the wall between the kitchen and the living area, not only did we open up both rooms to make them more useable, we were able to recommend a beautiful rosewood six seater dining table that ties them together and adds more functionality to the apartment.
We kept the styling simple in this kitchen. Touches of aqua blue give a true ‘Bondi’ feeling while greenery and copper accessories soften the hard surfaces and keep things fresh.
