This kitchen gave us a design challenge, and we love to overcome those types of challenges! The brief was straightforward: Our customers entertain a lot and wanted a modern, minimalist kitchen that would feel very different from the previous kitchen style, which had featured a butler sink, dark granite worktops and a range cooker. However, the item at the top of the wish list was a kitchen island with seating, which served us up the challenge!
Our bespoke kitchen design
Before coming to us, our clients had seen several designers who had all told them that an island was not possible in their space and only offered them designs which utilised the same footprint as the original kitchen. Key to our design was how to deliver the island in a sensible and practical way.
We assessed the space and were honest about what could and couldn’t be achieved. We agreed with other designers that an island wasn’t going to be possible; however, we could design something that would feel just like an island and work in the space.
In the previous kitchen, the run of units continued under the window, with the sink positioned in that run. This made the space feel very enclosed, so as part of our transformation, we took out that run under the window, moved the sink and designed a unique, L-shaped peninsula breakfast bar that would finish in front of the bi-fold doors.
The kitchen is a true handleless kitchen in Porcelain with Konigtone’s Carrera Venato quartz worktop. Behind the sink, the quartz is continued up the wall as a beautiful and seamless splashback. It is also ready to entertain with a Quooker Cube in black, an Abode sink in black granite, a BORA Pure hob, NEFF ovens, an under-counter fridge and an integrated full-height fridge freezer.
This kitchen packs a punch for a more petite footprint, and we’re thrilled with the end result. It is now airy and open, with room for four adults at the peninsula breakfast bar and has plenty of worktop space for food prep.
